    I used Ol' Duke's video to learn how (Rough Cut channel).
    I'm suspending mine over a concrete pad. Do you have any ideas for how to catch waste so the concrete doesn't get stained and stinky with urine? I've seen some nice setups but they usually involve constructions under the cages that I think snakes and other predators could climb to eat the babies.

    It would be nice if you would show a close up of the rings on the cage. Do those hog clamps work better than the j hooks?

    2x3x 2' deep is 16 feet.how did you come up with 15?? 3' long x top bottom front and back is 12 ft. Plus 2 ft on the ends is 16

    • @crittercollector92
      @crittercollector92 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      3ftx3 for top, front & back is 9ft. 2ftx2 for sides is 4ft. That totals 13ft. Then add in door/hay feeder. Split part of the height off of the door panel, use that for the hay feeder. Sounds pretty close to 15 ft for me.

      Another wire cage video demonstrated how the cut and clipped corners/edges are far stronger and more rigid that a single bent wire because there are two wires per edge

    For the kit guard around the bottom, tell me if this would work (unless I get to try it first!). Could you just make/buy the bottom piece larger as a standard part of building the cage? Then, because we can't fold wire like paper to make the larger piece fold neatly around the smaller dimensions of the sides, you could cut out the excess wedge shaped piece from the corners of the bottom piece to bend the longer bottom pieces up around the sides a few inches, securing at both the bend (what would have originally been the bottom of the cage as shown in the video) and along the upturned edges (now the kit guard) to the sides with the hog rings. The excess material cut away from the corners could be fastened together to make the hay basket. I'll try to make a video if I can get it to work, but I think it will work!

    We are going to rebuild our rabbit cages after 8 years in FL, both the wood frame and wire floor are kaput. This is exactly the type of housing we would like. wood free and proper sized (poopy passes thru) flooring. just found your channel because AA posted a link on FB.

    • @BamaHomestead
      @BamaHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JJ Homestead fantastic! These cages work great. And don't rust. I never understand why people use wood hutches!

    • @jasonb.3702
      @jasonb.3702 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I can tell you the reason in our case... free supply of wood. Of course, we knew it would be temporary, the rabbits have gnawed away at it, and we believe it has contributed to ongoing issues with mites. We plan to use our existing wood structure with tin roof to hang our metal cages from chain.

    • @BamaHomestead
      @BamaHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason B. Yes , mites are bad typically in wooden enclosures. Not to say we don't get them but it's few and far between. I wasn't hating on your wooden hutches! I'm glad you're switching over to a metal cage! Def go with the hog rings. They work amazing.

    • @jasonb.3702
      @jasonb.3702 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      All good. I think mites get introduced b/c of the hay as well.

    You cages are great. I wish now I had used hog rings for the ones I have made, I did not know that the J clips will rust. :( I cannot find the 2 x 1 wire around here, so I have to use 1 x 1 instead. I never thought of using a grinder either, so I told my husband that he just lost his NEW grinder because I am taking it. LOL

    • @BamaHomestead
      @BamaHomestead  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Robin. Yeah the. 1x1 should work fine. So long as it's only used on the top and sides. Yes grinders make the job so much easier! Just make sure to wear safety glasses and use a guard if you're not familiar with them!

    Great video. Planning to build a cage just like this, mostly because I want the extra height and can only find prebuilt 18'' tall cages online. I can't find welded wire in the right sizes either though. Where can I get this? I'd also happily buy 24'' tall cages as well if you know a place that I can get those. Located in northwester Oregon. Thanks!

      Richards Homestead j clips rust. Majority of people have moved to hog rings. The j clips are out dated and wear out quickly. The rings hold forever and never rust. But to each their own :)

    • @BamaHomestead
      @BamaHomestead  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not if you use half-inch by half-inch wire, over three years now and we have never had one single sore foot, or sore. Wire is just fine for rabbits feet. The only time you’ll have an issue with it hurting rabbits feet is if you use a bigger wire size.
