Thank you for your comments. I would like to make a clarification that as far as we, the Sunni Muslims, are concerned the Quran does state one has to make ghusl (bathing as the prophet taught) after major impurity, as is clear from the following verses: Quran 4:43 and 5:6. The context of the terms تغتسلوا or فاطهروا only becomes clear through hadith (the prophetic tradition), as the terms could mean ablution, washing hands/feet or washing anything for that matter.The Quranists, however, have no basis to make ghusl (bath) after major impurity (janabah) without hadith clarifying the meaning of the relevant Quranic terms, hence my argument "show me where it says to make ghusl (bath) after major impurity". Sometimes the argument does not come out clearly and clarifications have to be made. Sometimes one even has to plead ignorance to highlight the opponent's ignorance on the matter, hence my statements "I concede defeat"; "throw the hadith in the sea"; "show me how the Quran came to us" etc. These questions do not mean we don't know the answers, rather these questions are rhetorical methods to highlight the opponent's error.

I have never heard of Quranists until this week, and its really scary the way they think and their attitudes towards the hadith of the prophet SAW. But they will try and fail because Allah has preserved and protected our beautiful Quran and hadith for the rest of mankind. May Allah forgive and guide us all InshAllah.

The prophet (pbuh) warned us against them in a hadith (which they heretically deny as one would expect):
“Soon there will come a time that a man will be reclining on his pillow, and when one of my hadiths is narrated he will say: ‘The Book of Allah is (sufficient) between us and you. Whatever it states is permissible, we will take as permissible, and whatever it states is forbidden, we will take as forbidden.’ Verily, whatever the Messenger of Allah has forbidden is like that which Allah has forbidden.” (Reported by Ahmad, Abu Daawood, Ibn Maajah and at-Tirmidhee, who declared it hasan. Al-Albaanee declared it saheeh in Saheehul-Jaami’ (no.8186))

You say that it's common sense to wash yourself after ejaculation etc. Well actually no it isn't. Some people don't do it. How do you know you're in a pure state for prayer? Or to read Quran? How about fasting? How do you know you can fast without ghusl? You don't know that and you would only learn that from Hadith which is the teachings of the prophet pbuh. Most hadith was transmitted by Aisha Ra. Are we saying that she was not trustworthy to relay the words of the prophet pbuh? At the end of the day you can do what you want. You'll be judged by your actions and I'll be judged by mine. But to completely disregard 1400 years of scholarly wisdom for your own intellectual abilities is a bit nonsensical. The prophet pbuh is one of the most documented humans in history and for Muslims he is the best Muslim. Ha ha ha .. right at the end “Marwan” says “no, I do not think this was a good conversation because I didn’t come prepared.” Which is obvious because he was left stunned a number of times. That Surah Nahl verse 54 was the final blow. Even his attempt to go back to the Hajj verse, bludgeoned again by that very same “logic” he professes to have, yet shows none of it.
So what he was really coming for is certainly in question. Not to dispel his own doubts or seek truth but to be a Quranist badman! He even said, let’s just agree on the Quran is source of guidance and now let’s debate Hadith. So glad they challenged him to first substantiate and explain reasons for that belief before moving on to the topic he’s obviously got sound bites and pre-prepared arguments for.

Salaams. It is interesting to watch the subjective logic and reasoning the Quranists/Hadith rejectors use in order to back-up their arguments. The mere fact that even demonstrating the way they perform their salah is almost something that they are shy to demonstrate shows that their confidence is not at the level they purport it to be and there is an element of doubt, despite the fact the Shaykh Adnan has openly demonstrated it with confidence first in order to prompt the brother.

I didn't read Hadith before I read the Quran but I knew from reading the Quran it was from Allah.
I love reading and studying the Quran I read it at work and at home I listen to it being recited. I ask Allah for knowledge, someone told me I should go by Hadith I looked I read Our Prophet (pbuh) say in a Hadith don't copy what I wrote unless it is the Quran. The reason because he didn't want people to stray from the right path "The Quran" .
I love our Prophet(pbuh) so much I know he would never have made his own laws or did things that were not in the Quran and don't you think that Allah would have put every detail of the Prophet(pbuh) in the Quran that we should follow if we were supposed to follow everything he did and don't you think it would have been protected with the Quran. To love and follow the Prophet (pbuh) is to obey and follow what he delivered to us The Quran.
And whomsoever Allah wills to guide, He opens his breast to Islam, and whomsoever He wills to send astray, He makes his breast closed and constricted, as if he is climbing up to the sky.” [Al-An’aam, 6:125]

As a Jew, I found this topic very interesting. If one was to accept the written Torah and reject the Oral Torah (Talmud, Misha, Zohar, etc.), the easiest way to prove him wrong would be to simply point to a verse in Deutoronomy 12:21.
"...If the place the Lord, your God, chooses to put His Name there, will be distant from you, you may slaughter of your cattle and of your sheep, which the Lord has given you, AS I HAVE COMMANDED YOU, and you may eat in your cities, according to every desire of your soul..." (Deutoronomy 12:21). Nowhere in the written Torah does it say how G-d commanded the animals to be slaughtered. In other words, what exactly is the procedure of slaughtering animals? From here we see that something was commanded to Moses pbuh, which was never written in the Torah. All these details are in the Oral Torah which is the Mishna, Talmud, Zohar, Midrash, etc..
Blessed is HaShem, the G-d of Israel. Yes very interesting, the Karaite Jews would essentially be the equivalent of Quran-only Muslims. But to be perfectly honest, I find it even more shameful that some self-proclaimed Muslim would reject the Hadith than Jews would reject their oral traditions. Because I believe that if that Talmud (& Mishnah), etc. contained the actual statements and words of Moses (peace be upon him) with chains of transmission, many of the Karaite Jews may in fact reconsider their position. Yet that is exactly what we have in the Islamic Hadith traditions- the vigorously authenticated & recorded words, verbatim, of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself, and yet some people still turn away. It’s quite sad.
Also as a side note, I didn’t think that the Zohar would be included as a part of the oral Torah? As far as I know, it is simply the main compilation of Kabbalah literature which is obviously a part of Jewish mysticism, as opposed to actual Agghadic or Halakhic rabbinical traditions, which are found in the Talmud, Mishnah, Sifre, etc. maybe you can clarify that.

Qur’an is the Last and Final revelation of Almighty Allah to mankind. It came through Jibra’il (Archangel Gabriel) first to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and then through him to the whole world.
The task of Jibra’il (AS) was to simply bring down the words of Allah (i.e. Qur’an) and recite them to the Prophet (PBUH) while this alone was not the task of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). He was not only to recite the verses but also to teach the Book of Allah. We read in the Qur’an;
لَقَدْ مَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذْ بَعَثَ فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آَيَاتِهِ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ
“Allah has surely conferred favor on the believers when He raised in their midst a messenger from among themselves who recites to them His verses and makes them pure and teaches them the Book and the Wisdom.” (Qur’an 3:164)
The verse implies that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) has the final word in interpretation of the Book [i.e. Qur’an] as he has come to teach the Book and not merely to recite its verses.
If the task of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was similar to that of Angel Jibra’il why is it that Allah so often mentions the Obedience to the Prophet along with Obedience to Himself while there is no injunction about Obedience to Jibra’il?
Had the Prophet’s (PBUH) task been the same as that of Jibra’il (AS) there would have been no mention of obedience to him just as there is no mention of obedience to Jibr’ail.
This is a strong notion in support of Hadith along with Qur’an as a source of Law in the House of Islam!
May ALLAH make us have faith in all the articles and fundamentals of His Deen!

The Quran tells us it's fully detailed (6:114)....everything else is an excuse to believe in other sources. This man has made the switch to believe in Quran only from what he has read online by the work and research of others...but he is not geared to debate the topic properly. He did make some good points as well which was just ignored because he was surrounded by hadithers. The Quran does not need hadiths to prove itself, this is a ridiculous claim. Allah has only preserved the Quran, and it was preserved because the Quran itself is easy to remember(memorise). This does not apply to the hadiths.
Problem with hadithists is they look at the Quran through the lens of the hadith. That's an insult to the Quran.
The Quran must be read independently and pondered upon.
Regarding practices, the sunnah of the prophet has been passed on from generations. Sunnah is different from hadith.
Muslims practised Islam for 200 years before Bukhari. Why has Bukhari suddenly become so relevant?

When I reverted to Islam some years ago, it was immediately taught to me, Alhumdulilah, that authentic hadiths are right next to the Qu'ran as far as importance. I really enjoyed listening to the Quranist brother as he demonstrated the simplicity of the Quran at its face-value. When people begin to superimpose their preconceived notions they will begin asking things like 'the Quran doesn't mention where to place your hands in Salat' - this only shows they do not believe God when He tells us the Quran is complete and fully detailed (6:114).
I was shocked to hear one sunni brother saying that hadith literature were preserved in the same manner as Quran?!!!!! It truly behooves him to re-evaluate this statement.
It is also quite odd someone would imply that we cannot get to the Quran without Hadith... The Quran explicitly makes it clear it was written and compiled during the lifetime of the prophet (75:16-19) and promised to be preserved by God (15:9). It was subsequently passed down through history, just like any other book. This was not done by the hadith literature which was written and compiled years after the death of the prophet and contains strong or weak narrations.

The verses you mention refer to the books of other religion and not the book of hadith because without hadith you cannot obey Allah and his Messenger. It is a well established fact that people who deny teachings of Prophet are out of the fold of Islam because they rejected the Ayah of Quran.
