The Galaxy-Eyes experience is starting off with 3 level 8 monsters, 1 Vanisher and an extender you can't activate.
Thanks for capturing that so perfectly.
All they need to do is print an Alternative Blue-Eyes for Galaxy Photons but they won't ever do it. (Brave was almost there, but it's not a Galaxy-Eyes and changes its level depending on what you have so, on a bad hand, it's another brick)
Instead, they will print 94 more rank-up dragons that we'll never use since Galaxy Eyes already bricks too much to waste space for rank-up spells.
As for Ciphers, they could still go the Phantom Knights route and print "exclusive" cipher xyz and support that doesn't try to fool you into thinking they're Galaxy-Eyes support
As someone who's played galaxy eyes/photons for years, it has a plethora of issues. Bricking on the conditional ones suck. Several of the photons can't be normal summoned, and many can't get into the field without already having one onto the field. Some require you do things like discard another to summon itself, or already have galaxy eyes in the grave. They may have a large toolbox of XYZ monsters,but most either do the same thing or nothing at all. I can name at least 3 that just detach a material to pop a card. That's it. They don't have a decisive game plan, adding galaxy eyes afterglow was a great addition but it has similar issues to the rest of the core in already needing you to be set up to bring it out. The deck doesn't know what it wants to do, set up a control board or go for a big damage OTK with prime photon. And issue is, since it's split it isn't very good at doing either. Prime photon is a major, major,major choke point where any interruption probably made you just lose outright, as the deck has no recoverability or grind game. A control style would prob utilize number 90 the photon lord, a number 38 hope harvenger and that's it. One monster and one spell interruption isn't enough to slow down decks like magickey, let alone swordsoul or despia or splight. They expend so much energy to either set up weak boards or glass cannon pushes for game, using entire hands (when you don't brick) to make what you got. Meanwhile, splight can normal summon a swap frog and get full combo. Photons on the other hand are like, okay I need these two pieces, a search card, that one particular spell, two summon able monsters, and afterglow...and pray they don't get interrupted at any point.
I just want this deck to be good, it was my first deck and it hurts to see how bad the deck is

It’s a flawed archetype but it’s mostly a going second deck with the otk
photon meant to be used with galaxy just like how atlantean used with mermail. also, if its about issues, most of arch from DT one have it worse (to the point they cant even function well as a deck)
As a long time photon player, this was a very well made and very accurate. (even if it is out dated because afterglow changed the deck so now Prime Photon Dragon is the best OTK tool on turn 3 and not 107) As of right now we really need a Level 8 starter, just anything that can unbrick a dead hand while still not being dead if you have another monster like thrasher.
A whole year later and the new support came out as a photon-galaxy player i love it and i feel like its made the deck so much for consistent
In a way OG photon Dragon was part of history of this games game design.
While awful in card economy, he was the first lvl 8 main deck boss that had a reasonable summoning condition by himself AND a potential extra upside (even if that one sucked)
You can trace him as part of the line of boss monster design that started with Cydra and Machina Fortress, where they were still trying to adjust summoning requirements to be fair but didn’t know what was too expensive yet, seeing as his summoning requirements reflect classic lvl 8 synchros without a tuner.
I play DL and before the Galaxy XYZs came out, I make do with summoning GEPD out with Galaxion. I hope they retrain GEPD in a way that it can still use the older support
Recently more support for Galaxy-Eyes arrived and _guess What?_ 😃
They're more Extender and a Boss Monster *for Battle,* while the Blackwings not only got a New Boss monster who makes interruptions, but they also got *TWO* Starters which are incredibly good (Hell, even with just one of them, you can Summon an Extra-Deck monster while also setting up the Graveyard for you)
Galaxy-Eyes Cipher X Dragon only exists just for Cipher Dragon control effect because both Armor Photon and Blade specify Galaxy-Eyes XYZ monsters so they can't rank up from the stolen monster however X Cipher says "Cipher Dragon" meaning it can rank up from the stolen monster

Playing the "Cipher" variant of galaxy eyes is actually quite fun. You can positivel loop into summoning galaxy eyes cipher dragons quite fast and easy and their effects are rather nice. It's a great deck to teach new players imo.
As a hardcore galaxy player this video is great and the only thing i use galaxy-eyes cipher dragon is to steal my opponents xyz (on the off chance they still run them) and use it to summon another galaxy xyz
For some context on the anime references, from an individual who is missing most of his brain cells:
- Kaito's deck started off kind of weird. It was originally treated as a generic Light deck, but then Photons showed up later. As noted in the video, so did Galaxies. They came about because Kaito needed a way to get Neo Galaxy-Eyes onto the field.
- One of the big gimmicks of the ZEXAL anime was that Numbers couldn't be destroyed by battle except by other Numbers. Galaxy-Eyes was an attempt to get around that problem by being able to remove their materials and disable them. Now, you might be saying "why not just make it destroy them by effect upon attacking them?" And the answer to that is that it's not dramatic enough.
- Tachyon Dragon wasn't used by Kaito--it was used by his rival, Mizael. Mizael didn't use Galaxies in his main deck, instead favoring a Rank 8 spam lineup with lots of Dragons that had an astronomy theme. Stuff like Schwarzchild Limit Dragon. (This is also why Galaxy Stealth Dragon's requirements are so weird; it's a Mizael card rather than a Kaito card.)
- Orbital was Kaito's robot buddy/butler who hung around him a lot. He could turn into a flight pack, which I have to imagine is where the equip effect is from.
- Ciphers were indeed a mistake, and Kaito's ARC-V version was probably one of the worst parts of an already bad arc. He didn't use any of the cards of his original counterpart and instead just ran Ciphers as a Rank 8 engine.

Galaxy Dragon is actually a manga card. And the whole reason kite uses it in his deck is just in case his galaxy eyes ever gets his control taken away from him. That’s it. He plays a bad counter to his bad boss monster.
Yeah, then again - Manga Kite also has Hope Harbinger and Dark Matter (not in his deck initially of course). So it evens out.

For some reason out of every other archetype that I saw and grew up with when I say Galaxy and Photon I was immediately hooked and even to this very day I have not one not two but three decks based around them.
This video was great! Really big potential for making it into a series. Not sure if this is supposed to focus on decks that are not bad but have flaws that are connected with Konami being brain dead such as "Ko'aki Meiru" and "Kshatri-La" or just "Lets talk random decks" , either way it would be an amazing series due to how much amazing humor and detail was put into this one alone.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'd like to see if I could make more in the future. The basic idea right now is to find a deck that's interesting enough to talk about or has an interesting enough history that I have at least some experience with.
@@countercast8816 Ahh I see the personal touch is what adds the "spice" so to speak of. In addition to that might I suggest making a discord/some other type of server to add more info from other players that played the deck you are reaserching if you're interested in more detailed work, not stating that you're not fine on your own but saying that you might need to make a small team if you're planning on making a week by week series.
It couldn't be week by week due to the amount of time it takes to do all the drawings, unfortunately. If I get things actually rolling in the future, a discord might be an alright idea.

I first started playing photons in millennium duels on the ps3 so that was around Dino rabbit.Then it was an inconsistent rank 8 deck,now it’s a semi consistent and somewhat resilient otk strat that can put up a pretty good board going first.Hopefully one day it will shine.
I played galaxy before links came out and i still play this deck occasionally , there are some clear issues with consistency, not getting the right cards can feel so painful cuz most galaxy cards require you to have other galaxy cards on the field or graveyard and getting interrupted can screw you so badly especially in the current meta
Let’s hope that photon hypernova (upcoming OCG set) is gonna get a good photon normal summon 😂
The problem isn't the NS, the deck got quite good ones (Wizard, Knight). The problem is that the bulk of decent support it has are all extenders but in order for a combo deck to extend you need a good starter and that's what they sorely lack. That and most of the support has way too many restrictions
I actually think the NS slot is pretty firm with Knight. That card is just really powerful as NS. I would like to see a card thats comparable to "A Hero lives" or "Drytron Nova", or maybe a fieldspell that searches on activation (Like the Invoked or Drytron one).
I just hope whatever is coming isn't plagued with stupid restrictions like most of the main deck monsters have

One or two starters and this deck can be meta relevant for sure. It already has the makings of a good deck, it just needs the extra push.

You know I have dueled my fair share of Galaxy photon decks in my life and I actually have beaten most I have dueled(with blue eyes) all but the only one that didn't really use cipher so over all this video is very accurate

Nah, bro. You have no idea how many games I've won with Hyper Galaxy. It's a fast recovery tool against the extender killer itself: Nibiru. Also, you can take out staple negates like Apollusa, and use it to snag a Baronne de Fleur if you bait it into your chain.

The galaxy eyes Photon dragon's archetype's main issue is it needs basically the whole hand (and a good one too) just to pump out a semi decent board unless you just go blind second PRIME POWER PUNCH for 8k+...
Having played the deck a bit myself I think it would benefit most from a card that's a +1 or +2 to board building, so basically just a second version of Photon Sanctuary but it can make Xyzs too and not just links.
Rough idea, "Photon Rising": a normal spell that let's you summon 2 lvl 4 or lower Photon monsters from the deck but either their effects are negated or they can only be used to summon a light rank 4 monster. And maybe it has a grave effect to rank up a 4 to 8 or attach a material from hand/grave to a monster.

I'm main galaxy eyes and it's so nice to see how you need to play your entire hand into oblivion to make a play while other decks can play just one card and put 3 fcking monsters on the field on the end of the turn with 5 cards on the hand

I played Galaxy Eyes for a hot minute and can confirm. I’ve lost so many matches cause I have all these level 8’s and no actual starter
I’ve played both Cipher and Photon, they weren’t the best, but I had fun, that’s what matters isn’t it? Galaxy-Eyes Cloudragon was very useful in getting Big Boy out in 1 or 2 turns and crush people before they could really do anything and then just summon Solflare for some extra firepower to finish the job. It’s a strategy game, but people are busy with traps and spells that they forget the usefullness of big ass attack numbers

Genuinely didn't know that, yugipedia didn't have anything under "appearances" for him, so I assumed he was an unfortunate accident on the hands of the game designers instead of the anime/manga.
