Why can't you respond to the question: why Argentina does not have Black players? That's how many of you fail examinations. They ask you a question and you go out to answer nonsense; at the end, you say the teacher hates you and that's why he/she failed you in the exam! Caustic!

Calling someone Negro in many countries isn’t Racist. In Mexico we do it all the time. I live in AZ for 20+ years now and have come to know about 5 black Hispanics who themselves went by the name “El negro” , just like some light skin Hispanics go by “guero”

Thats inaccurate but just slightly, "negro" can be used as a racial slur just as much as it is used as an endearing term, I'm hispanic myself also so I'm not just talking out of my ass when it comes to this stuff, and more often than not I hear people disparagingly talking about anyone with dark skin using such terms as black or negro, moreno or dark skin, prieto or really black, so on and so forth, I even remember some black people from when I was a child who's nicknames were simio and monkey, you also see this culture reflected in households when a parent finds out their white son or daughter is dating a black person, the feeling is not that of embrace but of displeasure or disappointment, you can also see this culture in telenovelas, the protagonists are never black in Hispanic countries, beauty pageants are dominated mostly by white people, there's also under representation of blacks in politics, surely there are more examples of racism in other cultures throughout Latin America but I'll leave there for now, all this to say that we are no different than say the US when it comes to how we view blacks south of the border, sure we're not killing them or denying them their rights, I happen to think blacks get along with whites better in Latin American compared to how they're treated in the US and Europe but it's undeniable that there is a bias and as a result blacks still get mistreated in Latin America 🙋🏻‍♂️

Slight correction, Argentina abolished slavery in 1813 not 1853. In 1853 we adopted our first Constitution in which it was set into law that all people born on Argentine soil are free. And whilst the video does its best to summarize the afro-argentine experience, it's quite lacking in some areas, as for instance the understanding of race relations in Latin America in general. Let me preface this by saying that in no way am I condoning or agreeing with these statements, but they're based on the historical understanding of the time periods.
Argentina, or at that time the Vice Royalty of the River Plate, was more of a backwoods hold out for the Spanish crown to hold off against French and British interests in the region. The vast majority of the Mid-Atlantic Slave Trade ended up going to Brazil (whom as a note only abolished slavery in 1888), and Argentina received a small fraction of it.
I do wholeheartedly agree that after manumission was declared in 1813 the vast majority of black slaves in Argentina (or the United Provinces in that time period) were forcibly conscripted into the Liberation Armies as front-line cannon-fodder soldiers, and that's where you see the biggest dip in the Afro-Argentine population, followed by the War of the Triple Alliance. Compound to this the unfortunate decision to exterminate the Southern native tribes in what was known as the Desert Campaign of the 1860's, and the influx of European immigration that had it's peak from around the 1870's to the 1890's, and you have the perfect conditions for developing a nation that would identify strongly with its European roots than other nations in Latin America.
One thing that is important to note is that the concept or race in Argentina was secondary to that of social class: call it a leftover of the Catholic Spanish way of running things, it is why the color of your skin in Argentina plays a secondary role to your place in society. And while it's true that later on Argentina had the typical view of race mainly shaped by the ideas of 19th Century Europe, there was a more sui generis approach to our understanding of it. This is why we don't distinguish our European ancestry by regionality: Spanish, Italian, German, French, Russian, Turkish, we don't have the anglocentric concept of hyphenating our national identity (ie: African-American, Italian-American, etc) and thus our views on what you would call race-relations (if you can even call it that) have a different approach than they do in the anglocentric nations.
Hope this cleared up some misconceptions and I welcome any questions or discussions. :)

A lot of the data in this video is misleading or just plain wrong.... Argentina wasn't a "major part of the slave trade", there was barely anyone living in the Rio de la Plata back then. It was a forgotten backwater of the Spanish Empire.
Sure, 30% of the population was black in 1810, but the population back then was only 500 thousand people!
Add in the fact that 7.5 million European immigrants arrived in the following century (second largest recipient after the USA), and the fact that slavery and the slave trade were abolished very early (1812), and you can see how the black population of 150 thousand (30% of 500k) got dilluted due to that huge migratory wave of Europeans.
0.4% of the population today identifies as black, and genetic testing shows 7% has some black genes (such as that goalkeeper you mention), so it's all perfectly explained in the current demographics of the country. It's true that black people died in disproportionate numbers during the war in Paraguay, and that they were discriminated against during the 19th century, but to talk about genocide here is nonsense. You can bet that if there had been an organized ethnic cleansing campaign there would be historical evidence for it. A lot of this simply stems from not understanding statistics and Latin American demographics. 30% sounds like a lot, but it was a very tiny population that got overwhelmed by immigrants. There was no "one drop rule" here as in the British colonies. And again, 150 thousand black people got 7.5 million european immgrants dumped on top of them.
So that explains how those genes got dilluted.

I think one of my nostalgics and good memories on soccer was the Velez Sarsfield from 94. That team was fantastic! They played Boca, Cruzeiro, Palmeiras... All clubs more traditional and the players never looked nervous playing under pressure. Aways playing a really good football. After that through the years I saw so many racisms cases liked a said before and I start to desliked the argentines, overall. The last decade I think was the best years about relationship between Brazilian and Argentines. Messi aways said how the brazilians helped him on the barcelona and maybe people outside of Brazil and Argentina don't know how específic the relationship between Messi and Ronaldinho, that friendship was important for that. My Brazilian team had a great argentine player from the Velez, Lucas Pratto and in 2014 I went to Buenos Aires and one thing I did was visited the El fortin, Velez Stadium. I went there with my GALO Ronaldinho Shirt and literally everybody was talk with me, some guys was trying to buy my shirt or trading in other shirts, was crazy! The Velez Sarsfield Store, when I went there, the whole staff came to me and we was talking about football. I think was more than one hour and the guys was talking so passionate about the brazilians players and I about the argentines. They gave me a discount on shirt, gifts... No, I come because I like to see how the outside works sees us.
The thing is a bleck person, like really deep black not brown, would be a sight to see in what we call the Interior, we have many brown people descendants of native Americans but in the world they are not considered black.
All the black people here mostly had children with whiter people, so we all mixed that's why we are not that white either.
In 1813 we abolished slavery for children, he didn't mention that, even before that we didn't have much plantatios because it too cold in the south and in the north there was many people to work already (the natives) in the only region were many black people lived we had a war, and it's not like we sent them to war. The country was dismembered we didn't have any president or higher authority that was really respected so the other provinces didn't want anything to participate on the war. So all those provinces (3 or 4) had to defend themselves and offered freedom to slaves if they participate in the war. That's why many died there, but thet weren't the "front lines" they were all the lines.
The yellow fever affected EVEYBODY so we shouldn't considered that a cause the poorer section wasn't just the released slaves (they weren't even the majority) the greater population affected were rhe poor immigrants mostly Italians.
This video is misleading, go do a Google search
Sarmiento has a statue in the central park, he build schools everywhere and educated us the level of illiteracy fell to 2 %, we were the most educated country in the world at that time. So yes the guy may have been racis, honestly I don't know but it wouldn't have been weird in his time. And remember that at that time Europe was pillaging Africa and the US had segregation.

By the beginning of the 20th century, 30% of the Argentine population was immigrant.

Argentina's population was 36% black in 1816 when it became a nation. Shortly after independence, the white population went on an ethnic cleansing of the black population. While a large number of blacks were killed, another portion of the population got married into white families in order to acquire higher social privilege. Even though a lot of Argentine may not look black or identify as black, a large number of them have african dna in their blood.

Referring to Maradona as white is totally incorrect. His heritage is southern Italian and Guarani (native South American).

Short answer my dear English speakers.
Argentina didn't have a law of racial segregation, It wasn't like America and other countries of the British Empire with a sickening ban on blacks and whites approaching, marrying or having children.
It never had a sign like a typical American place in the '50s or '60s "NO BLACKS, NO MEXICAN ALLOWED ONLY WHITES"
With that segregation law America, South Africa and several others maintained the black race.
We must be careful in making statements about black people, although I don't remember in Hispanic America it is very impossible to find players with strong African ancestry.
Bolivia, Peru, Mexico have strong indigenous ancestry, but because they have dark skin they would not be in the "Afro-" category as they do in America. The countries with more African influence are in Colombia, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Panama, Venezuela, and so on. How many countries did Spain colonise? Are there numbers of slaves that Spain sent to the Americas?

@@frankadaado2722 during WW2 there was a government in Argentina that liked the nazi regime. To be more precise, just the president, who decided to protect German refugees. That was only a president and not the entire argentine population. For your reference, in Argentina happily lives the third largest jewish community after Jarusalem and NY.
