Great demonstration Ruben! Another option of taking the seam apart is if a Kool glide was used you can go right back down the seam like putting it together and take it apart as well.

I have a heat gun too and always thought about trying that to take older seams apart, glad to see it works!

Great Video! Thank you! Have you been successful just trimming off one row on each side before? I may attempt this on a 3.5’ seam at the end of a short hallway.. Been bugging me for a while now.. Hope I can get enough stretch to make up for the cut. End is tucked next to tile at a doorway so we’ll see. 😬 Your video gives me the confidence to give it a shot though so thank you sir!

Yes sir I always take as little as possible so that I can stretch it back up

thank you for the good video i have a carpet seaming ? every time i use a 6' straight edge if the piece is around 14' or longer i cant keep my straight edge equal distance from the edge of the carpet usually about 1'' it will almost always try and run off the edge or narrow the distance i start by making sure both ends are the same distance than i cut the length of the SE than i slide it down to make my second cut but i leave a foot back and make sure its lined up on the cut edge i'm making, but it never runs completely parallel with the edge all the way to the end how can this be when i start parallel i know the carpet isn't shorter on one end.now i just make 1'' marks all the way down the side.

99.9% of all carpet needs to be row cut for accurate seams

Is it possible to remove a carpet seam by using a heat gun on top of the carpet? I need to remove seam at a doorway so i can peel carpet back to repair warped wood floor underneath (from water leak). I plan to hire carpet guy to reinstall carpet but would like to peel back carpet and repair underlying wood floor myself first

Afraid not, you will not be able to get it hot enough to remove the tape without burning your carpet if you do it from the top. My best recommendation is to try to find the very seam it’s self and cut directly where the two pieces are joined. You will only be cutting the seam tape if you do that. It will be slow going making the cut, but it will save your carpet guy a lot of headache.

@@FloorsbySouthernboys Thanks! I will try to find seam and cut tape only from top side. Don't mind going slow but I'm not too confident that I won't cut into carpet just because of my lack of experience. If I do nick into carpet a row or two, I hope it won't cause too much trouble for re-seam.
