Some of the fittings still have a small leak. It's not an audible leak, but if you spray soapy water on them you get bubbles, so it's a small leak. I went back and cut about a 1/2" off the air lines that were long enough to do so thinking a fresh area on the line would help them seal, but nope some still have a small leak... Using these type fittings with the strain that is on the lines from how they are routed just seems like a poor design.
I believe the push fittings were made to quicken the assembly process at the factory. In my opinion the brass compression type are by far a superior design.
It's absolutely absurd to even use push fittings in many cases -- say, at a fan clutch. Leakage can develop and you risk burning it up! Compression is the way to go.
This really help me I am having issues after I changed all the fittings I have a vnl 630. Changed all fittings and the break on the drive axle won't engage. Only the steer axle and the trailer breaks are working and after watching this I am wondering if I put that check valve in the wrong spot
I know you do all the work on your truck so Volvo sales the O-rings for all of the air fittings . They come in plastic bag 10 piece , all you do is take the players grab that brass ring and pull it out it's going to pop out . Pick the old O-ring out blow it with the air use some WD-40 on new O-ring , push the O-ring in then the brass ring and you have a new fitting. I didn't see your videos for some time good to see you back.👍
Didn't know you could buy just the o rings. I've had some of the fittings apart before but never could find an o ring that fit properly. I hate these push to lock fittings they always leak but they are metric thread so not much you can do with it. I wish they had an upgrade to the type you could put a wrench on. Oh and I usually upload a video once a week, it's not always trucking related however. TH-cam doesn't seem to show my videos to everyone. Make sure you hit the notification button and see if that helps.
I replaced only the O-rings but still had leak so went ahead so I bought the fittings and I'm also having same problem wich is small leak. I believe after trying some new smaller size hoses (different location) with new fitting there's no leak at all so in my opinion it my be old hoses that goes to the tanks the problem
"push to leak" fittings. always finding them leaking no matter what make or model truck i have. everything built today seems to have a built in expiration date built in. seems like just enough to get it out of the warranty period.
Man I know, some of it's so bad it doesn't make it out of warranty. It's just slapped together and sent out the door, no grease fittings or anything...I wish I could find regular compression type fittings that has the proper metric oring threads...
The o-ring on the threaded side can be replaced and the o-ring under the collet can be replaced. Entire fitting replacement is an unnecessary expense. All PTC DOT fittings are serviceable with pliers and a few picks. I have part numbers for the o-rings and collets if anyone is interested. People waste tons of money replacing the firewall pass through too even they only needed to change the o-rings.
I didn't know the o-rings were available for purchase until someone else mentioned it in the comments. The fine people at Volvo sure didn't tell me they were. They were sure happy to sell me the fittings though! Lol
@@LifeWithChase Tell me about that. Happened to talk to my dealer's parts guy tonight and he said the pass-throughs were unserviceable. Really! I've fixed 5 leaks on mine over the years by sticking new o-rings in, so that's sure odd. I should backtrack a little bit and remove my foot from my mouth, though -- a few of those composite elbows that you showed I think can go bad in the spot where they swivel. They have O-rings at the base and inside the push-to-connect cavity, which can both be serviced, but if that swivel joint is leaking, I don't know what you would do besides replace them. Now those composite elbows with the base at the bottom are a headscratcher when you have your own NPT fittings and you try to thread one in and it won't go in. That's because they're metric. So is the one on the outside of the front (wet) tank on many Volvos. (That 3/8 line comes from the dryer's "purge-tank" port.) Part numbers can be 20999384 for an M22x1.5 1/2 elbow, 20551609 for 3/8, etc. Elbow nipples, they're called.
DO NOT USE PIPE THREAD FITTINGS, unless you want to buy a new air tank. The oem Volvo fittings are serviceable. Show me any other manufacturer that has that option.
You would not like a fittings Volvo uses in Europe. They are plastic 😂😂 they are so bad that the Volvo dealer don't even stock them. Replace with brass ones as go bad. But a million of them so costly as fuck replacing them on a new truck if want to to all of them.
This type of thing really agrivates me when a company makes a crappier product and charges more for it and then you buy new ones and they are equally as crappy.

Your main air lines if that’s leaking how do you order a new one? And what’s the length?
Volvo sells o-rings for the fittings. 3/4" are probably the largest fittings- 85108488. The 5/8" fittings have o-ring 85108487.

Amazing to me how things get less reliable in manufacturing and not more.
