"We take players' feedback seriously." Then Nintendo/Game Freak's leadership and management should've known better than to knowingly launch the new Pokemon games in this state. The feedback of, "stop rushing games to launch," is pretty universal.

@@cjenkins9228 I'm not defending the state of the game, but I don't know why people like you assume that those groups overlap a ton. Very likely, many of the people who bought it Day One are still enjoying it, even if they're frustrated with the bugs, and will continue to be apologists. And I'm guessing most of the people who (understandably) take serious issue with this, did not pre-order or buy Day One.
Then again, I may well be wrong, and maybe there are lots of people who pre-ordered/purchased on day one and are also shocked at the state of the game. But you also have to realize, even recent games were not this bad. Sword/Shield had lots of issues, but they weren't this level of unfinished.
Lots of people are like "Pokemon games have been getting worse and worse so this shouldn't be a surprise, it's the consumers' fault!! They should've known after Sword and Shield!!" But you're off your rocker if you think that Sword and Shield were indicative of this level of broken game.

these patchnotes are laughable. If you look at the newest Splatoon version's patch notes for 2.0, there's 20 pages of notes and updates including listing various bugs that were fixed. Here, we get less than a page for TWO patches and the bugs are not listed. This is untenable.

    • @johnmaco

There are so many bugs that they didn't even know where to start listing them, and many more that they don't even know are there. If they were to list bugs that are clearly critical to the gameplay of their game, their sales would suffer. They preferred ambiguity and silence.

This isn’t going to change anything. The game was still a success. They’re only apologizing because that’s what they’re expected to do. The series has been declining for a few years now, right after gen 5 became the peak of the franchise, and it’s not going to get better at this rate. If they’re sorry, the next release needs to be worth the price tag, not be a broken, soulless mess that doesn’t understand what made the first few gens as special as they were.

You see that there were tons of QoL stuff, some good characters, pokemon design, and fun ideas but clearly had little time to polish.
Rumors from supposed ex-contracted employees for GF claim that Nintendo offered to assist, which they do to other companies when those companies asked for it. Gamefreak heads refused or didn't ask for help until it was too late in the process for Nintendo to help.

They only said they're "aware" of performance issues & listening to feedback, then using vague wording saying they're "working improve the game" (Note: not performance).
"Improving the game" could just mean fixing exploits/bugs & adding new content.
Only saying this as companies do this all the time, and were careful with their wording not to promise to improve performance.

Honestly, I think the problem lies for the most part with Creatures Inc. who handles the entire Pokémon franchise (Anime, Games, Merchandise etc.). Sure, Game Freak could hire more talented people to help with the workload or make a game engine as a foundation that is optimized for the hardware and can serve as a solid foundation to develop a game.
But for that to happen, Junichi Masuda needs to change his entire approach in handling a dev team and Creatures Inc. needs to give GF actual room to breathe, because I can guarantee, the next mainline and spin-off games are probably already in the planning stage, considering how little time there was between the releases of SwSh and SV, not to mention Legend Arceus that had to be thrown there in the right middle from all of this.

Last night I even had a bug where my Gallade was just randomly standing on the pads that help you travel in Area Zero and he would just stand there even after using the pad to teleport or when I leave the building and come back inside. I'm actually in airplane mode until people can figure out exactly what was updated because I went through torture grinding over 30 broken 6* raids and didn't get a single ability patch, so them patching a useful glitch will literally stop me from playing. I wish game developers and the media had a better relationship like with what you see in sports. Every time a match is played in any major sport, the media and the fans have the ability to hold their athletes and coaches accountable for apparent mistakes or lapses in judgement. Imagine if there was a Game Freak press conference after every major release and gaming journalists had the opportunity to present what the fanbase is saying to the game devs and get their responses. That would be cool imo

The worst part of this whole debacle is that... at its core, the game is incredibly fun.
I love the non lineair way I am able to go, and the many places i can explore. The game is filled with nooks and crannies with some new pokemon or item in every one of them. The pokemon and human animations are more detailed this time around, they definitely listened to critique on Sword and Shield, and I am definitely enjoying the game as a whole a lot. But some of the performance issues... it's just distracting at times. My switch is also roaring like mad while running it, and warm plastic can be smelled.
I hope it will be looked at and that Gamefreak will realise they have something good here that needed a bit more love.

Yikes, that's really not good. I suppose someone who's really enjoying the rest of the game could ignore most of the visual bugs, pop-in, bad textures, and even maybe frame-rate and all that. But messing with the actual console because of how poorly it runs? That's a seriously glaring issue :/

The only issue I have is the way breeding is done now with "egg types" sometimes I don't want eggs, but have a fe/male or two in the party... preferred the daycare system, was less time wastey, didn't require you to empty your party and stand around to get the pokemon type you wanted.

  • @autumnlotus6250

Let's be honest: even if all the bugs are gone, this game is a 7/10 at best. It's a good pokemon game, but thats a self defeating phrase. Pokemon games are lackluster and half asked at the best of times, and this game looks like a Wii game on an already underpowered console. If they can't compare to BOTW, A game Years Old, then they are failing their customers miserably

Honestly my only real issues so far that affect performance is often when the game gives me TM's through cutscenes or dialogue they glitch past the explanation and don't appear in notifications screens to double check, further, an actual problem with game design is menus... D-pad left is outfit change but the game NEVER tells you this, it goes out of its way at the start to tell you to pick up outfits in the overworld, then later tells you how to buy outfits in shops, but not how to change what you have once you have it.
Likewise the camera app never tells you how to actually take pictures despite explaining its other features quite well, while the Rotom phone case can also only be altered in the unmentioned appearance menu despite showing "use" in the menu that does nothing.
Other than that and the memory leak/graphics the game is fantastic.

I've lost what little respect I had left for the "Pokemon Community" on this one. This is unacceptable for any seasoned Developer to release and if this was any other franchise, everyone would jump on them like this was the next Ride to Hell or Aliens Colonial Marines. The only reason anyone is going easy on it is because its Pokemon, this game deserves WAAAY harsher buzz then its getting. If they're ok with less than mediocre quality, fine. They can go jerk it to their stupid weed cat and waste their money buying a game twice for all I care.
I don't want to hear about them not having time ether because I grew up on PS1/PS2 Era, where half of the sequels used the same engine and came out on a Yearly base. Spyro (1998) Spyro 2 (1999) Spyro 3 (2000) Ratchet and Clank (2002) Ratchet and Clank 2 (2003) Ratchet and Clank 3 (2004) Ratchet and Clank Deadlock (2005) All made by Insomniac games, AND they helped on most of Naughty Dogs games. Game Freak can't even make new models and this game is this buggy. If its too much work, hire a second developer. Call of Duty did, the Pokemon company has the money to burn. Game Freak obviously doesn't care about Artistic Integrity or Craftsmanship.

From a software QA perspective, I can say there is indeed a possibility that inhouse testers missed the performance issues in testing.
How a lot of game companies test their games is to test on emulators on souped-up PCs. There are a lot of open source software for automation and just more efficient testing on PC. So this common practice here, along with most software devs just relying solely on automation tests, causes most optimization related bugs in my opinion.
