No, he was right. Bubbo used squares in the slope which would make it quadratic. The actual slop formula is
(Y2-Y1)÷(X2-X1)
With the numbers just denoting seperate points.

Not exactly “squared”. The coordinates (x,y) is the first point of the line while (x^2,y^2) actually represents a second point of the line. To find that, you subtract the second coordinate from the first in a way where it’s [y^2 (The second y) minus y^1 (the first y) / x^2 (second x) minus x^1 (first x)]
For a better viewpoint:
y^2 - y^1

x^2 - x^1
The numbers in this case aren’t exponents, they show what the points are on the graph.
