I just bought a used DP-30L yesterday and today followed all of your steps as you outline them: motor, lubrication, rerouting cables, soldered in new RCA and ground cables, tightening screws, cleaning, and then calibrated tracking, skating, and speed. It’s now outperforming my expectations and is truly SIGNIFICANTLY quieter than when I tested it late last night. Thank you thank you thank you! xo :)
Hi Adam, I purchased a second hand dp 30 some time ago. It had issues with the platter spinning for a time and then stopping. I spokenwith local repair shops they said nothing could be done. I then spoke with turn table specialists further a field. We dug deep into internet forums and message boards. In almost any instance where people had bizarre behaviour from their platter it seemed to almost always come down to this transistor. So due to the cost of shipping my turn table from a remote location to get repaired by a specialist I tracked down an electronics hobbyist and had him go through and check the capacitors and transistors. He disappeared on me for roughly 6 months wouldn't return calls or messages, I had written the turn table off as gone forever. Then out of the blue the other day he calls me up and says I can come pick it up. So far on testing it seems to be maintaining good platter speed. Just need to put a new cartridge on and enjoy this machine the way it was intended. Just want to say thanks Adam as it was this video that kept me convinced that the problem was solvable.
When I owned my DP-30L, the tape-head sensor was mounted too far from the platter and therefore wasn’t sending a signal to the speed control circuitry, so the platter spun super-fast. Once I adjusted the sensor to be a paper-width close to the platter, it all started to work properly!
honestly with a simple multimeter, a capacitor kit and some patience, it’s a straight forward fix. maybe watch a few soldering tutorials on youtube? good luck! if you encounter any questions along the way you can also comment here and i will do my best to help out

Just got this deck and the previous owners had no idea. I love it but it is distorted. Shall I replace the Turntable Headshell, cartridge? Any insights would be great thanks

Grease on those linkages, not oil. Good job though.
