William Hague REACTS to the Budget

We've just been watching the budget. What's your kind of reaction? Well, what I was looking out for was, is it something that helps the country drive ideas, innovation, technology, because that is what is going to create wealth and jobs in the future. And there was some of that. There was a reference to 500 million pounds for more life sciences, innovation, university spin outs.
But that theme was not at all front and centre. The big stuff, the way that the Chancellor is using all that extra money raised from employers, from businesses, is to invest in infrastructure and so on. But that doesn't change the growth rate of the economy, or most of it doesn't. So I would have preferred to see a much bigger emphasis on making sure this country is one of the great homes of ideas in the world.
And I think that that's a missed opportunity when, when she did have a lot of money to play with in this case.

And Reeves has been open. One budget is not going to fix 14 years of waste fraud and lies. There has to be hard times before the sun shines again. This budget goes towards that. Least it. Hasn't trashed the economy...
