    Apologies to all those asking permission to use this. Please do! (And sorry that I've been slow and haven't responded to each request individually.)
    The Standard TH-cam License allows you to embed and show the video as long as you don't modify it (e.g., remove the TH-cam branding). So, that should be fine for just about any classroom or training use with no additional permissions necessary.
    In short, you can use any video on TH-cam in any kind of training provided that you're using it the way that TH-cam provided it. So, just don't download videos, modify them, etc., and you can use TH-cam videos in educational settings without worrying about violating copyright.
    You also don't need permission to share a link to anything on the web. So, if you want to put together a handout to resources, you don't need permission to link to the resource (unless, of course, your link somehow circumvents a login requirement on a paid service, but that would be a terms of use violation more than a copyright issue).

      _For now..._ They're working really hard to change that.

    With the majority of schools being closed due to the Coronavirus there has been a lot of questions surrounding copyright at the school I work for lately. This video certainly helped to clarify a lot for me. We had planned to record ourselves reading books for our younger students but were told that is a no go. Is that true? I'm still a little lost with regards to that.

    • @RoyceKimmons
      @RoyceKimmons  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a clear example where copyright seems overly restrictive, but yes, by recording audio of the books, you are making an unauthorized copy of copyrighted material. It seems the publisher would especially care about this if they have their own audio version of the book that they're trying to sell, because you'd be circumventing their ability to profit from the audio version by creating your own. (But, as always, I'm not a lawyer.)

      Seems like if you include sections of it and then also discuss it rather than just playing it as the sole delivery of the topic its ok? If the video did it's job and I actually get it?!

    • @RoyceKimmons
      @RoyceKimmons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be true if you were making a copy of the video. But if you are using it the way it was intended and licensed (i.e., watching it in a web browser via TH-cam) then it doesn't matter.

    May i use PPT lesson made by author of a text book in explaining and making a youtube video??
    Second question is i want to solve past papers of cambrigde exams so may i use question paper as it it and writing and commenting on it.

    • @RoyceKimmons
      @RoyceKimmons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With both examples, you'd have to make the case that the use is fair (e.g., transformative) if asked to do so, but the easy solution is just to ask permission from the original author. The exam question is especially tricky if you are just answering the questions, though, because test companies make their money off of test items and merely answering the question doesn't seem very transformative (as opposed to, say, critiquing the structure of the question for academic purposes).

      Feel free, Bailey. The standard TH-cam license allows you to embed without additional permission or citation, so you don't even have to ask.

    • @RoyceKimmons
      @RoyceKimmons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, sorry. I wasn't tracking these mainly because you don't need permission to show the video under the Standard TH-cam License, but I've pinned a comment on this at the top to avoid this confusion in the future.

    Dear Royce, Can a teacher read a story by an author on a teacher online classes website?

    • @RoyceKimmons
      @RoyceKimmons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lisa, I'm not a lawyer, but copyright kicks in when you make a copy of a work. So, taking a written book and making an oral copy of it would be an instance when copyright would apply. It seems that fair use would likely only apply if you only recorded a small part of the story.

  • @djcaseuk
    @djcaseuk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    it's automatically copyrighted yes, but what chance does a smaller artist have of taking anyone to court over someone using their material or sampling their work,. this whole law is designed to protect the big companies at the top who exploit artists for their work to release under their brand instead of the copyright owners.
