  • Student training aid for stripping and terminating the ends of PVC/PVC Twin and c.p.c cables (twin and earth cables). Includes a full demonstration on how to remove the outside mechanical protection (PVC) and the conductor insulation (thermoplastic PVC) before doubling the ends over. This is the method we will be using whilst we are training in the workshop. We are trying to increase the dexterity of our learners therefore we avoid using wire strippers and we go old school.
    Videos are training aids for City and Guilds (C and G) and EAL courses Level 1, 2, 3 plus AM2, AM2S and AM2E.

    I am not a student but in fact retired but did some electronic wiring years ago (not electrical). I just wanted to say that the videos are really good and very well presented. I am sure that the students would find them really helpful.

      Hi. Thanks for the kind words. I am trying to engage my learners when they are away from college. The adults enjoy it but the younger generation are harder to please. All the best and thanks again GSH Electrical.

    Grab earth and rip down, done. That’s how everyone I’ve seen on-site do it.

    One of the old methods I was tough at college was striping the wire with a knife, pushing away from you down the side of the CPC. Always just use my side cutters nowadays. 👍

      Hi. I learnt that way to however we now reduce knife use because learners have poor dexterity nowadays... great on gaming machines poor with hand tools. Keep watching and commenting Gaz

    Great video, not an electrician or anything but why do you fold the wire back on itself?

    • @Neion8
      @Neion8 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm guessing you've learned since, but for future readers, folding back the wire creates a larger contact to increase friction and conductivity when connected to the appliance. It's not essential but it's multiple positives for basically no negatives, so just do it.

    Currently studying to become a spark, does the twist you do when folding not weaken the conductor? Cheers for the videos! Super helpful.

    I’m working on a older house with multi strand (red & black) T&E cable. Where I’m replacing a socket and need to strip the cable and rewire, do the same rules apply?

    When stripping the inner conductors I just use my sidecutters, not the knife. For the outer sheathing I do use a knife.

    I’m thinking of starting a new company hiring out “man with red flag”. The person will walk in front of the “white van electrician’s van. Teaches your students patience and improves driving skills.
    In the back of the van, will be the knife needed.
    You can see that I’m in lockdown😉

      Hi... thanks for commenting... terminating cables at my college is all about building hand skill that are lost on the youth of today due to excessive gaming... all the best GSH Electrical

      Cables should not be used outside their temperature parameters, you should not be so keen to get the job done. Start later later , drink more coffee while waiting for the cable to get to a working temperature,.
      Materials only work well within their design limits , just like threading or bending cold conduit, you get poor results. PVC cracks and splits when cold, many a Swa has split while being run in, a lot of effort if you have to rip out and start again. Same with T&E get up to temp and it’s easier to work with assuming it’s the good stuff.
