Surely that payment should have been used to improve housing stock and lower bills rather than give to pensioners who then give it to private companies. Billions have been spent on this policy for years whilst nothing tangible is done to address the fundamental issue - energy costs too much and we have a really poor housing stock vs other countries. The issues we have are decades of mismanagement. During the campaign Starmer kept saying not raising tax on working people. That said, all the plans were drawn up from data the OBR had but that data has been shown to be incorrect due to the conservatives thus any plans will need to be reviewed and revised in light of the current financial climate. For context, I work full time and am early thirties.
