Chloride reached out with a sassy email blaming me for discriminating... They have the same claim against all medical personnel who say “normal saline” instead of 0.9% sodium chloride. In remediation here’s a blurb: For high level overview of chloride: - remember the normal 95-105 - it’s not very independent, it typically NEVER changes all on its own (the imbalances happen with other electrolytes) - low chloride is most commonly seen with 1. vomiting 2. Diuretic use - high chloride is seen in 1. Dehydration 2. Renal failure 3. Iatrogenic use of normal saline
OMG out of the 40+ videos i have watch trying to understand Electrolytes. You are the one i actually understand!! Thank you!!! please dont stop making videos!! ill cry lol
Watching this guy explaining physiology is a must because he was a nursing student and medical student. Respect and I hope he has humanism in his heart. He must have it for he is teaching us . 🤍❤️🤞🏻
You're using the Chinese Kanji style of learning. Whereby you create little stories to cap everything into the long term memory. Very smart and thank you :)
This video should get a lot more reviews. It is complete GOLD, compared to the other videos on youtube that are so LONG. Your videos are straight to the point and it keeps us students engaged.
This is just the kind of info I was looking for! I needed something that could tie the symptoms together and make sense of them so they would be easier to remember (or at least, more logical and thus easier to remember). You broke things down into the basics and now remembering the lab values (because you pointed out you can list them from smallest to greatest), major functions of each each electrolyte, and symptoms of hypo/hyper is much easier. I will definitely watch more of your videos as I study. Thanks!
Dr Wyatt , I can not thank you enough. Really appreciated your kind help in this video. I worked all my life to look after family so this is the only chance I ve got! My dream is to become a doctor in Germany it means I have to re sit all my exams. I was a childcarer to my father later on my grandmother. Hopefully I can help people like us when I become doctor. You videos are god sent ❤☺ thanks again and wishing you all the best .
My pathiophysiology professor had this video cited for us on canvas to use as a study tool for our electrolytes exam. Will update how I do but this has helped ALOT some of it was familiar to me as I have chronic health issues and get these values checked a lot
So glad that you have your own TH-cam! I was just telling my wife yesterday how much I miss your picmonic webinars and how great you are at breaking things down. Looking forward to more from you!
Thanks! I do miss doing the LIVE webinars... I will admit teaching my dog Stitch during the recordings is a bit weird some days. Let me know what topics I should cover next!!
Great video! Love the visuals and yes, picmonics is a good study tool with humor. I find even better because I remember more when I'm laughing or smiling. Drinking from your cup is a good reminder that we all need to keep hydrated. Appreciate the reminder and thank you for all the short cuts to remembering lab values.
You are a gifted teacher and have a great personality and you are so kind to share the information and break it down to help people understand. And you’re funny too in a natural way. Thank you for sharing this. I wish I had gone to nursing school. My husband is 59 and he’s worked hard construction his whole life. He’s known for being the person who sweats more than anybody on the job site. He normally can take it but now he’s so tired in the last three weeks. I can tell there’s something wrong with him. It seems he has depleted his electrolytes. He has always gotten really bad muscle cramps in his hands legs and feet especially in the summer. But now he’s so tired he can hardly do anything. This is the first time I’ve seen him like this in 37 years. He sweats through four or five shirts a day and through his shorts ...sweat pools in his shoes. I’ve been giving him bananas raisins and I bought supplements trying to reach 3000 to 4700 mg of potassium a day. Plus I gave him a magnesium supplement but it’s not working he’s getting even more tired. I’m wondering if he’s deficient in calcium. I know I need to take him to the doctor.
Ahh...so relieved! After insanely long power points, chapters with microscopic font, dry lectures, and virtual learning, you were so easily able to condense this info conceptually for me. Thank you Thank you! You are funny to boot! What did nursing students do before YT?
Thank you very much for this, I just began paramedic school and the simple breakdown of such in-depth material is a life saver. You're a great teacher.
Thank you so much for this video. You’ve help me understand this concept so much.

Electrolyte imbalance, basically, is when your potassium level is in the 1 range. Linked to eating disorders, in particular anorexia and bulimia nervosa. Consequence is heart failure and death. Remedy is hospitalization in ER with potassium IV and oral solution during 5 days minimum. 2 month recovery period is required.
Thank you so much for this video! I've been trying to memorize these for weeks with various videos and charts and such, with only a little progress. Although mnemonics and visuals are super helpful, I need to have a general idea of the what/why/how behind what I'm memorizing. You blended the memory visual with the general actions of each electrolyte so perfectly that it finally stuck for me. Thank you!!!
Great video! Thank you for systematizing this for me. I was really having a hard time understanding and remembering it before I listened to your lecture. Also, and easy way to remember what's in the ECF and what's in ICF is to memorize "salty banana": K in, Na out.
Thank you Thank you Thank you. This information was awesome! I am 2 semesters away from RN graduation and taking my summer time to refresh past material that I feel I need to review and your video was so good. I will check the other ones you have here. Again thanks!
Thanks for this video and the DM video. I think it helped me a lot acing my 1st exam this sem. We're doing Metabolic and I hope you'll have Renal, Liver, Pancreas, Gallbladder vids. 😀 Neuro and Mental Health nursing vids too! THANK YOU AGAIN! 👌🏻🙏🏻👍🏻
Maybe it's just me, but it's really confusing to look at the Hyper/Hypo slides and see the Hypo on the top... To me, it makes more sense visually to have the Hyper on the top and the Hypo on the bottom, at least that's the way I always write my notes.
How can I get your handouts for electrolyte lab values that is so cool and very helpful? I love the drawings! Your video is such as tremendous help. thanks!
Chloride gets skipped? great video though, thanks a lot, i've actually watched it twice.

11 months later I realized you made me say normal saline after dissing on people who say normal saline.
Well played sir.
Chloride basically goes with the same signs and symptoms of hypo/hypernatremia
You talk to fast
@@donnahinton4297 too fast*
You can slow the vid down buddy

WOW SUPERB TEACHING. I MEMORIZED THE LAB VALUES RIGHT AWAY AFTER YOU SHOWED US HOW YOU ARRANGED FROM HIGHER TO LOWER. THANK YOU SO MUCH

Dr! I am not even done with this video yet, but soooo loving your teaching style, and appreciate you!!!!
A good way to remember [K+ and Na+] in and out of the cell is to think of a banana boat in the salty ocean.
That is so cool! For me, I use KINO pneumonics- K In, Na Out
wow thanks, I always forget this!
Love that!!!

Wow this was very well done!! Advanced Care Paramedic Midterm this week, so happy I watched this!
I miss working as a paramedic... life was so much more fun then.
And when I mean fun... I mean the lights and sirens.
Ahh...so relieved! After insanely long power points, chapters with microscopic font, dry lectures, and virtual learning, you were so easily able to condense this info conceptually for me. Thank you Thank you! You are funny to boot! What did nursing students do before YT?

Great job, I will use this video over and over again. Thank you
I really like the way you explain electrolytes in this video. It is much easier. Thank you!

Just now coming across this video in reviewing for my NCLEX and had to pause it at 0:25 just to comment that I live in Charleston. Small world!

Awesome!! Thank you so much!
just to be clear, these values are from venous blood gases right? Because as Remote paramedics we don't take arterial blood gas
