No need to early on they need the sunshine & rain fall to establish new roots when plant is smaller
Darn it! Did not know I needed a stump cover. I will get that done on my 3 plants tomorrow. I been watering the stumps a bunch it's been 103 to 113 everyday for 6 weeks. I am having to mist the plants 3 times daily. They wilt and fall down bad. I don't have any shade. Doing my best. I planted some basic Alantic giants and pollinated a bunch of those first week of the heat. The plants where not huge but I only wanted some smaller carving pumpkins for kids. Then I was waiting to pollinate my giants that are Wallace seeds and I was waiting to pollinate at 13ft of vine. Well heat wave hit and I had a few on each plant set. But one plant from Wallace seeds is a bit different. More jagged leaves and the main vine and trunk grew huge way bigger than the other 3 Wallace seeds. Clearly a different plant. Well it seems to be more heat tolerant than the other 3 also. So that's a plus. And this odd plant had 4 pumpkins that set and are very nice round super shape and healthy looking. The other 3 plants I had also started 3 to 4 pumpkins each and they will not hold a pumpkin. They grow for about 2 weeks then shrivel up and die off. I got one pumkin out of the other 3 plants that's trying to go and it super deformed and out of shape and looks like terrible. But that odd plant has 2 pumpkins now and they are still growing great and look amazing. The other 2 I cut off and am going to grow 2 on it as our fair was cancelled and I got started late so I just want to make sure I get seeds for next year off this plant. It's 16 days old today since pollinating and it averaging 10 pounds a day the last 3 days. It total measure all 3 added up is 134.5 inches and that's 62 pounds using online calculater at day 16. I had several days of almost no growth due to very heavy wildfire smoke blocking the sun and covering my plants with ash. Very heavy smoke in the air. The leaves turned colors which I have since learned is due to very high O zone from heavy smoke. But Sun's out again and it took right off growing like crazy. My stump is still green and looks good. No weird mold or anything but I will stop flogging it with water. It evaporates pretty fast due to super high heat so assuming that's what's saved me a huge mistake. I don't know what to do to get some pumkins to set on the 3 other plants at this point. Super high heat they don't want to grow. I keep pollinating but they go a few days up to 2 weeks then shrivel up. Plants are huge and look good for the abuse they have been through with heat and smoke. Although most new leaves are marbled dark and light green. Somethings off. At least the one plant is growing 2 very nice pumpkins and the one looks like it is going to be a giant. So pretty excited about it. I will cover the stump and stop watering it. Just focus on the vines going out with water. Hope this heat stops soon calling for 103 tomorrow and through next week. So week 7 of 103 plus degree days. I will also cover my pumpkins with a sheet. I been keeping them shaded and they are under the leaves so mostly shaded all day but today as it's getting big so fast I will need to cover it as it's starting to be exposed. Hope it makes it. Does not have to be a record setter just a good size I will be happy! Thanks for the tips and videos. It's helping me along the way. I don't know why i missed the trunk covering when I did mine I forgot I guess. But got it now!
Yea got a rot spot in my stump. May cut it out and add Daconil full strength
To wet is usually the cause of rot spots You might be over watering & possibly to close to the stump
Bait The Hook put a fan on it and back off the water
Keep an eye on it if it gets bigger and worse you may have to cut your main vine to prevent Pumpkin from Rotting .The rot will travel down the vine bacteria into the fruit. I would use hydrogen peroxide to clean it out. Out every couple of days Daconal will not cure the problem by itself

I just popped on over from a “World Of Color’s” you’re sweet and lovely sisters channel… The two of you are like those gorgeous Peapods you picked off the vines...What a genuine sense of humor you both have to go along with your gigantic big hearts... every single time I watch your sisters videos I learned a dozen new things and now I have learned more about watering...shade...systems...and pumpkins then I knew in my whole life... not to mention a couple things about the country… Something about a bug...a couple one-liners...and most of all what it is to have a fabulous, loving and kindhearted brother to grow up with!!! Between midnight and 1 this morning I went out with a headlamp and was able to squish between my fingers 273 cucumber beetles on my two plants. The vast majority were mating making them "sitting ducks" for easy picking. For the ones I missed, which organic solutions would you recommend?

If you're not supposed to water the stump, what portion of the plant do you water?
mohare134 Everywhere you have leaves will be roots under all the leaves in the soil.Of course when the plants are little we water the stump but once a plant gets over 20 feet long or late June we will stop watering at the stump (crown)
The roots will grow 30 feet from stump along the surface in top 6 inches of soil .Be carefull with weed pulling & tilling & water the entire zone (Canopy of plant)

You can buy water soluble zinc and manganese at JR Peters Supply in Pennsylvania they sell online Very reasonable prices
Organic alternatives to Merit 75WP?
I use Monterrey brand B.t., which is a bacteria that infects borers when they bite into the plant. I still use systemic insecticides, but I did try using only the B.t. twice. Once it was 100% control, the second time I ended up getting borers late in the season. I’m thinking the first time around, I got better coverage when I sprayed
@@thomasmorgan9341 Thanks for the tip; I will look into it. I have to be very careful to protect the two honey bee hives within 20 feet of my plant. Monterrey B.t. might be my best option. Thanks again.

Traps work to reduce the populations for a future years they will not totally eradicate it for your current season it kills the male which is half the battle.

Will that squash bug poison make the fruit poisonous to eat? I know giant pumpkins arn't for eating but what if your dog eats a piece, is it safe?
I never new a dog to eat pumpkin,however it wouldn't kill the dog if it did Its the same pesticides farmers use on your store bought veggies
It would be like your dog eating a chip of old paint off your trim on your house.lead poisoning very minute
@@Worldwidegiantgrowers My dog ate and ruined many pumpkins this year, he eats vegetables all the time and has had pumpkin before, thats why i was worried, I didn't use any pesticides, but I learned my lesson and will make sure he doesn't have access to the plants next time, It was nice that he kept other animals away but he caused more problems then he solved and i only ended up wit 2 small pumpkins, it was still fun though:)
Hi Mark, I have a problem with my vines. My main vine, a secondary and my little pumpkins are bitten by rodents. What should I do?
Xeno I would buy a live trap The plant will grow new fruit new vines the pumpkin might be fine with a scar if it’s not chewing on too much. You can put red cayenne pepper on the leaves put human hair around the garden.Coyote urine might work
