  • Welcome back to Helicopter Lessons in 10 Minutes or Less! I'm Jacob and this video is Part 2 of my SIFT Prep series outlining Modules 5-7. If you missed Part 1, check it out here ( • The SIFT Test - Part 1 ). If you're enjoying the videos so far be sure to hit like, subscribe, and leave a comment below!

    Module 5 covers Reading Comprehension. This section gives 30 minutes to answer 20 questions. The purpose of this section is to see how well you can understand a topic as well as the critical details from a paragraph. Just like if you were to receive a mission order, you should be able to read and understand what the mission is and the who, what, where, when, & why questions. Looking at the practice test, question 4 asked what you can infer from the paragraph. Ultimately A sounds the most reasonable and best sums up the paragraph because it is specific and applies to the main topic. Other questions in this section ask you to infer word meanings based on paragraph samples. You may also have to draw conclusions and determine cause and effect for questions. Practice these as much as possible to get the best score.
    Module 6 addresses Math Skills. You'll have 40 minutes to answer a Variable amount of questions. No calculator is allowed so knock off the rust on your paper math skills. There is no set number of questions because the section tends to repeat areas you are weak on to properly determine where you stand. This sections covers everything from integers, decimals, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, exponents, factors, fractions, percentages, algebraic functions, linear equations, word problems, geometry, pythagorean theorem, and more. Too many to outline each in this video. But don't let this section discourage you. Get the study guides and practice, practice, practice.
    Module 7 is the final module that covers Mechanical Comprehension. You'll have 15 minutes to answer a Variable amount of questions. Much like the last section, there is no set number of questions but the test will keep giving questions to get an adequate assessment of your skills. The goal of this section is to see how well you can predict what will happen in a mechanical system. The first few questions in this test bank ask you to judge distances and times by converting information given. You'll see this section also has diagrams asking you to interpret velocities and angular velocities. The section also focuses on springs, gears, pulleys, Newton's laws of motion, hydraulics, changes to volume, and more. Get the study guides and practice the different types of questions.
    The test generally takes 2.5 to 3 hours to complete. For scoring, the Army hasn't disclosed how it weighs each sections but outlines the range of scores. The test is meant to be compensatory in that if you do well in 1 section it can compensate for lower scores in other sections. That said the scores range from 20 to 80 points. Minimum passing is 40. The average is 50. No score guarantees you'll get accepted into flight school. But the selection board weighs everything and so the higher the score, the better your odds. Based on scores submitted by viewers of this channel, scores in the 60's range seem to have a high pickup rate for selection.
    Make sure to check out the test prep book links above. Remember, if you want to take this exam seriously and pass the first time, go through as many test prep books as you can as many times as you can so that nothing surprises you on the real test.
    Be sure to check out Part 3 next. Thanks for watching. As always, safe flying.

    How did you start your journey into aviation if I may ask? I'm enlisting soon, and I'm considering becoming an Apache Helicopter repairer in order to get on the job experience before I pursue Warrant Officer. My question for you is, is this a good route? I'm not necessarily an engineering type, but i figure I can learn. Do you think it's worth a chance, or should I do something I know I would have better success at?

    • @helicopterlessonsin10minut10
      @helicopterlessonsin10minut10  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I outline my story a bit in my Podcast interview video. But I went right out of college and submitted a WOFT packet to enter as a warrant officer. You’re not required to be enlisted first but most recruiters push people towards that route. It all depends on how strong of a WOFT (Warrant Officer Flight Training) packet you have.

    Hey! wondering if you could explain a question on the sift study guide that you recommended. I've got the same exact edition sift guide and on the army aviation practice test question #22 is stumping me. It ask about what to do to correct a skid in a left banking turn. The test key says the correct action would be to decrease pressure on the left anti-torque pedal or increase pressure on the right anti-torque pedal. My thought would be that the opposite of this would be true and the answer given would make the skid even worse. What do think is correct in this situation . I haven't seen any material or videos online explaining slips and skidding in helicopters... maybe you could make a quick info tutorial. thank you for your time!

      Awesome! You killed it! What was your most difficult section? And what do you recommend others do having just taken the test?

    • @PenguinGaming
      @PenguinGaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Id say Math was the most difficult as far as knowledge goes. I was not prepared enough for some of the equations, theorems, and algebra they threw at me. However I kept getting more difficult questions so I think that was attributed to many of the answers being blatantly incorrect and the fact there usually were 2 answers per question that were close if you just estimate an answer. Hard to explain but a question like "Whats 8x8?" Would have answers like;
      A.18
      B.47
      C.64
      D.130
      So honestly with some proper studying its not so bad.
      The other difficult section for me was the Hidden Figures. I answered 25 of 50 and I had such a difficult time finding the shapes. Admittedly guessed on about 5 of them just to reach the 25 completed.
      The rest was fairly easy with proper studying. I crammed most of the studying the night before by reading the entirety of the FAA Rotary handbook and doing the Memorex practice test a few times over.
      The Simple Drawings was super easy after studying. Finished with 8 seconds left and honestly felt I got atleast 95 right.
      Mechanical Section was fairly easy if you read what it was asking and visualized in your head what was going on. Of course Bernoulis principle is important to understand for this section.
      Army Aviation was easy if you read the handbook and researched some of the aircraft and the training for WOFT.
      And Spatial Apperception was actually easier during the test than the practice books, felt I didnt even need my hands to mimic the aircraft for atleast 80% of the questions. Again, had the same "2-4 blatantly incorrect" answers that made the process of elimination easy.
      All in all, not too bad once prepared properly!
