Watching this from my home in Cornwall and loving that you had such a typical Cornish surf experience 😂 Sloppy beach breaks in the gray wind and rain. Beautiful.
@@KalesBroccoli you need a pure groveller board 95% of the time in the UK. Something like a Lost Puddle Jumper because the waves are just so soft and slow, even if there's a bit of size.
As an expat living in WA from North Devon. It was so refreshing to watch this. I think what you described is the wave speed is slower compared to AUS. Literally waves roll into the beach slower so you’re surfing has to slow down in part. It looked like you were rushing everything and missing the power section of the wave. I had major trouble picking stepping up the pace when I first came to WA, AUS. Regardless great episode and happy travels!
As a Newquay local, 17:00 that guy is paddling into the harbour - some people get in/out there instead of on the beach front. And Kale, fistral is a typical beachie - if you want to surf better waves in Cornwall next time head to somewhere like Porthleven which is a far more advanced spot with barrels when conditions are right. Recommend checking some footage out on YT. It is deeper in the south but 100% worth the trip if it is on - beautiful down there too.
I live in Cornwall, we get some good day now and again. Few good reefs that work now and again. We have a wave most days somewhere, whether its south cost or the North. The occasional time i go abroad to surf is a very special treat!
great to see you checking out my home town! super stoked to see someone i grew up learning from now surfing all of my local spots albeit poor conditions, Cornish weather...

Great to see you in Cornwall bro in my home! Super interesting hearing your take on the waves, it for sure gets good, but I have noticed the more time I spend away surfing waves in the tropics etc, every time I come back I feel I can't surf fat conditions like these same as you said...twinnys I guess bro. The banks play SUCH a huge role in the waves for us like any beachy, combined with massive tides and relentless W/SW winds, just gotta find the right banks and tides....plenty more spots outside Newquay bro...give it another shot 😝
Gutted Kale, if I'd have known you were coming to our neck of the woods down in the Westcountry I would have tried to sort out some coaching. Love your videos, very clear and technical. Hope you enjoyed our shores!
Nice perspectives. I found the same surfing in Wales, felt like a total kook at first. Then came home to SA and surfed Day Street to remember I could actually surf. Led to a nice learning curve and actually made me a better surfer and person for it. The amount of water moving from those 8-10m tides is crazy! The connection to history is nice and I always thought it was so lacking in Australia. It's charming at the start but after living in central/eastern Europe it becomes quite limiting to progress and mindset. Interesting!
Annoyingly that’s the waves we get in Cornwall most of the time. British surfers must be the most motivated surfers in the world to keep putting ourselves through the constant struggle.😂

Love the honesty about the UK. I have lived in England all my life, not too far from London. I hate how crowded it feels. Maybe it's just me getting old, but I long to live by the coast with hardly anyone around - but is that even achievable these days?

Kale, you were staying about 5mins from where I live! Hilarious!! UK waves are about half the power for the size of an equivalent wave in the Pacific. I spent 3 years living on the E coast of Japan and then moved to Australia for a period so have experienced this first hand. SW France benefits from an ocean trench that funnels and concentrates swell giving it more punch . That’s why your FT felt underwhelming in Cornwall.

@ I swear to God if the injuries keep on like this at 46 I’m going to be on a jet ski by the time I’m 47 not 58🤷🏻♂️ can’t see I can use the boost fin at 11 yet and they’re telling me I need a cruciate ligament in my right knee seems to be a problem now I’m doing the Physio and surfing again but wasn’t a priority for them while my back was screwed for the last 10 years🤷🏻♂️😂 I know go private or buy a JetSki that’s what everyone keeps telling me I did it in surfing this place…..
