    I really liked your KL transport videos, the ones where you review the LRT MRT KTM and bus routes.

    Good morning Doug, love your foods challenge; I miss the street foods In Bangkok, always surprised to find so much good foods while sight seeing.. we plan to visit Thailand in June 2023, will try out some of the places that you had been. I’m glad you made it safely to Malaysia.. can’t wait to see your next video

    You look quite more relax in Malay. Hopingly the beginning is great and awesome. Stay safe as usual ohhh.

      I do feel more relaxed here. I think it has a lot to do with being able to speak with more people. English is commonly spoken in Malaysia, and that makes a big difference in my day-to-day life. Everything is easier to do.

    Doug,
    I'm in tears 🤣....I thought for sure you'd know who senor wences was . We're about the same age so I thought for sure you'd know who that was....he was a ventriloquist who talked to his hand that had painted eyes, hair and the mouthpiece was his hand regularly seen on the ed Sullivan show.

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I turns out that I DO know Senor Wences. I did a TH-cam search for that name, and the second I saw the videos, I remembered him. I just didn't recognize the name right away when I saw it. I'm terrible with names of everything, particularly people. I might know a magician or ventriloquist or a band. But I have no idea of the names of any of the people themselves.
      In re-watching some of the videos, I remembered that technically, he really wasn't a great or even good ventriloquist. You can see his mouth moving clearly all the time. Yet, it didn't seem to matter. It was the speed and cleverness of the give-and-take between him and the puppets that was entertaining.
      At some point while I was in Mae Sot, I ended up going down the rabbit hole of all the Nina Conti performances on TH-cam. I'd never heard of her until I stumbled across a video one day. And then I tracked down everything I could find. Here's an example:
      th-cam.com/video/EADGMYpUa6I/w-d-xo.html
      She's famous for her routines with the monkey. And she can get very dark and psychological and "meta" with her act. I like her a lot.
      Just thought I'd mention Nina Conti in case you hadn't come across her. 🙂

      @keithd1219 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PlanetDoug Thanks Doug...yes she's very funny. The whole thing about senor wences was because his mouth moved most of the time, as a kid watching he was very easy to imitate. Those days of innocence on TV are sadly over.
      Anyways, when you do your videos because the selfie stick is invisible, your carrying hand looks open and made me think of senor wences...just a silly observation 😆

    By the way, I have no idea how you could stay in that windowless room for more than an hour, let alone 7 days, even if you go out quite a bit.

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Windowless rooms never bother me for some reason. I've been like that my whole life. When I'm inside, I'm always inside my head in one fashion or another: reading a book; listening to a podcast; watching a movie; writing a letter; now editing videos. It's kind of irrelevant where I'm doing that. I don't even notice my surroundings. When I have windows, I never look out them anyway except to check the weather. I ended up staying in that tiny windowless closet for three weeks. Happy as can be. 🙂

    Doug, you just need to order iced tea or teh ice. It's automatically comes with milk. When you specifically mention milk, they will just assume you dont want milk.

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good tip. I will try that next time and see what happens. I probably knew all this from the last time I was in Malaysia, but I've since forgotten. I saw a menu on the wall at this food court, and it listed things like "teh ice", but I couldn't remember which type of tea that was or even how to pronounce teh. I will stop saying milk and perhaps that will do the trick. 🙂

    • @sumiahbuyong1169
      @sumiahbuyong1169 ปีที่แล้ว

      Teh ice=comes with milk
      Teh O ice=with sugar but without milk
      If you want coffee,say coffee ice or coffee O ice and so on.

    Hi Doug, Try to find a USB WiFi dongle that works on apple laptops. And BTW now you are in Malaysia, have you ever thought of selling some of the things you no longer need (laptop, cameras, phones etc. ). you can sell them online or directly to a shop in KL) and just keep the things you really need, so you can travel light and gain some cash, maybe to buy a new capable laptop.( no more cameras! 😁,
    thank you and Take care 🙏

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea. I've come across these WiFi dongles before. I've never quite understood what they do or how you'd use them. I'll have to look into them.
      My plan is to sell a lot of things when I'm in Kuala Lumpur. A friend of mine there has offered to help me with that through his Carousel account. He's very experienced with selling camera equipment and things like that.
      I have quite a bit of gear overlap at the moment, and my plan is to figure out exactly which types of gear are the most useful and keep those and let some other things go. It's time to consolidate. 🙂
      I don't even try to travel light, though. I will always have a lot of stuff with me. I like it that way. It's just how I live, and I'm fine with it. But I definitely need to be lighter than I am now.

      @@PlanetDoug That's good Doug, I developed a technique which may not apply to you, to help me getting rid of some of the stuff I accumulated during time , I make three piles (or boxes) , 1st pile labeled “things I want and need” , 2nd pile labeled “things I don't want and don't need”, and the 3rd pile and its the difficult one labeled “things I want but I don't need” , I will keep 3rd pile for a while till I decide whether they go to 1st or 2nd pile . thank you again and take care .🙏

    Doug, thanks for the mention. Regarding your problem with getting tea with milk, I had, and sometimes continue to have, trouble getting plain old black coffee in the shops. As I'm sure you know, "Kopi" is coffee with condensed milk, "kopi-o" is black coffee with sugar. For a long time no one seemed to understand just plain black coffee. Finally I hit upon "kopi-o kosong", which works sometimes but is not completely reliable. However, if you say "kopi-o kosong" when you sit down heads will turn -- a foreigner speaking BM is still quite an oddity -- but you still might not get what you want.

    • @PlanetDoug
      @PlanetDoug  ปีที่แล้ว

      I really should set aside at least a few minutes a day to apply myself to learning basic phrases in the local language - particularly when it comes to food and drinks. Then I can eventually figure out the magic words I need to speak to get exactly the right type of tea or coffee. I'll find the right words for basic milk tea eventually. I HAVE actually gotten milk tea occasionally. I was editing a video yesterday, and in that video, I was surprised to see that I was drinking milk tea. So I HAVE been successful. I just have to remember what I said that time. 🙂
