    The Masters will do what's best for the Masters. They politely asked Phil not to bring his "controversy" to their event. If this settles down before next April, it'll be fine, if not, Augusta may ask several other players politely to not bring their controversy to The Masters

    Why would the pga tour have lost to LIV already? LIV players play 54 holes of golf with no cut. And they have some weird team structure that no one cares about. It’s not even a test. They use the same equipment as the pga tour. But they are definitely not playing the same games.

    • @klauscaptbsquad7044
      @klauscaptbsquad7044 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They’ve lost in that the LIV tour is off the ground. They’re having events. The PGA has lost multiple top players, including the 2021 PGA champion, DJ the recently ranked #1 player in the world, along with several other major champions. The PGA has seen its reputation damaged, it’s players are taking sides and taking shots at one another. Sponsorships are being ended.
      The PGA and its commissioner are seeing their worst nightmare coming to fruition - a competing tour based primarily in the US, breaking up their monopoly. One that has an unlimited budget, and a grossroots movement of popular players joining. If you don’t think the PGA has lost something, you’re not paying attention.

    • @Kaymeron
      @Kaymeron 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@klauscaptbsquad7044 I like a competition where there are clear winners and losers. If the person that comes in dead last collects over $100,000 and doesn’t miss a cut, it’s not really a competition. It’s more like a “showcase of golf”. And showcases of golf are fun, there’s no doubt about that. But it’s not professional competition golf IMHO

    "Forty years ago, it was considered by some a risky move for the guys who play professional golf to break away from the group created for golf professionals." This was about the PGA Tour splitting from The PGA of America in 1969.
    "The golf breakup occurred largely because of the influx of money that television had started to pump into the game. The top players (Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer among them) wanted to use the additional TV money to pump up the purses."
    "The PGA of America wanted to put the money in the general fund. That's when the compromise was reached, with the golf professionals and the professional golfers going their separate ways."
    Sounds a bit like today...
    The PGA tour categorized itself as a non profit so it could avoid hundreds of millions in tax revenue. That decision is now haunting them since it also means they can't hand out guaranteed money contracts like other professional sports.The LIV tour is doing exactly that so it's not surprising top level golfers want guaranteed money. If someone loses their PGA tour card they're gone with very little support. I don't see how you can treat people as independent contractors and then complain when they go elsewhere.

Much like in the business world, when someone leaves a company after 15 years for 200 million, I don't think the company would welcome them back next week. I think the Jay and the Tour probably made a huge mistake and likely cut of their noses to spite their faces here. If they simply allowed the other tour to exist in parallel, it may not have evolved into anything more than just a few exhibitions a year. But if the best players begin to leave, and are permanently suspended from the PGA, the LIV tour will begin to grow exponentially to eventually become a competitive tour. The money is just too great for now, and if a majority of the best leave, the rest will follow - leaving the PGA as a minor league or even defunct entity.

    • @armasrammo4793
      @armasrammo4793 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No such thing as parallel peaceful coexistence in this situation. Golf has a HUGE history that is greater than money. The LIV thing is a long time dream come true of Greg Norman who has a history of failing to rise to the stature he believes himself to be. He wants to be BOSS, the COO, the CEO, the CIO, the CFO, the SHARK controlling the waters in which the guppies have to swim.
      For decades, as a player who has failed to win a US based major and then as a wannabe 'important guy' he has not made the grade in the US. He has, over the years, even complained of having been shunned as a would be mentor, that he's offered his wisdom but nobody has come to hear him out. He has claimed that Tiger has never paid him any sort of homage. So now, he wants revenge. In essence, the Shark has been, or so he feels, treated like a guppy. And now he feels it's his turn to finally call the shots. Greg is trying to recreate his self directed, Saudi backed, 2022 version of "Jaws".
