Lea has the unbelievable ability to emote such depth while singing flawlessly. Her vocal precision is only surpassed by her grace. Whether singing as Kim here in Miss Saigon or as Eponine or Fantine in Les Miserable, she draws you into the role in a way that is magnetic. I've heard countless others sing the songs those characters sing, but never am I moved by the song in the way that I am when Lea does it. Quite simply, she is unmatched.
Even though it's been a while, this scene still gives me chills like no other! The portrayal of emotion is just breathtaking, but I guess it can only be expected from the two wonderfully talented ladies Lea Salonga and Claire Moore :)

I joined the crew on Phantom just before the 1st year party, then got a job on Saigon just after Claire moved there. Goosebumps every time she sang. Simply awesome!
Lea is the best Kim ever and Claire Moore is still the best Ellen ever. The one who played Ellen in Broadway is also a great singer but Claire Moore is just perfect for the role.
Decades have passed and I still thank my parents for “making” me go & watch Lea Salonga perform in Miss Saigon. My very first professional musical I saw & still my all time favorite. Amazing singers have gone and taken over the role of Kim but, to me, Lea is still unmatched. Luckily, my parents also got me to appreciate another iconic, legendary Filipino singer...... Regina Velasquez. I didn’t know then but know now. Lea & Regina..... living titans of music power.
I saw this for the first time in 1989. Ever since, it is my favorite, sad song with secretive meaning. It is love on many levels. See the play if u have loved more than once.
@@anairenemartinez165 The musical is based on Madame Butterfly. The reason is this: Kim expected for Chris to come back for her. He doesn't know he has a son yet but she believes that he will come for her because in her eyes they are married (the ceremony they had with the picture of her parents looking on.) She of course doesn't realize that he's married legally now to someone else. When he does come to Bangkok, she sees that he is married and that Ellen doesn't want to take their son back home with them. Chris doesn't want to either because that would separate the child from his mother. He can't take both of them because the only way to bring an adult back is if he is going to marry her and he is already married to someone else. Remember, they only spent two nights and one day together. He was ok with the thought that she ultimately survived the fall of Saigon, and that's all he wanted to know. It complicates things that she has a son with him. All his life, she has been promising her son that his father will come and take them to America, the only way to guarantee that her son will go to the States and live a better life is if she is dead, because then Chris/Ellen will have no choice.

Also worked on crew at Phantom with Claire (unlike some in the cast no pretensions, just a lovely lady). M Ball, D Willetts and Claire early in the 2nd act were un-forgettable. Lea Salonga is pretty fab. I remember seeing her with Claire Moore in London shortly after opening. I’ve also seen Claire as Christine in Phantom so she’s very versatile indeed. I think I’m right in saying Claire also sings Jazz
I am a JAPAYUKI, also a singer & entertainer like LEA SALONGA. Former Japayukis like me performed in night clubs in Japan. As ENTERTAINERS, we all know that whenever we perform WE ALWAYS GIVE OUR BEST & TRY SO HARD TO PLEASE & ENTERTAIN PEOPLE WITH OUR SINGING, ACTING & DANCING always hoping they will like our performances. But it's okay na rin coz we earned big "lapads" in Japan that really helped our families financially back home. I hope showbiz Lea Salonga (whom many people find her hypocritical) will have SINCERE concern & support to her fellow entertainers like us Japayuki singers to ask the government to BRING BACK AGAIN EMPLOYMENTS IN JAPAN for us ENTERTAINERS (SINGERS & DANCERS) coz we can earn big "lapads" in Japan that would really help improve the lives of our families...
ang ganda kasi ng voice quality niya, magagaling yung mga sumunod na kim technically pero iyong voice quality ni Lea at 18 yrs old is sobrang maganda at angat sa iba
Miss Saigon was really made for Lea.
I would go as far as saying Boubil and Schonberg's music is made for Lea, she is gorgeous in Les Mis as well.

Her placement when she sings "As I can keep believing I live" is so unbelievably amazing that I cry every time.

But when moonlight fills my room I know

My heart
Against all odds
Holds still
Yes, still
I still believe
I know as long as I can keep believing, I'll live
I'll live

You will return
You will return

The time will come
When nothing keeps us apart
My heart, forever more
Holds still

This is perfection.
I am really curious how 14 people could not like this absolutely beautiful video.......
Not just not like, but actively dislike!
The horror!
I just saw Miss Saigon in Thai version. I'm impress and love this musical and thk organizer that bring it to thailand.
Omg claire was also outstanding here
This is so moving and flawless reflecting the heartache and senselessness of War
this made me cry..cant stop crying..i felt the anguish and loneliness..superb Lea..
Still gives me goosebumps when I hear this version
Lea Salonga is pretty fab. I remember seeing her with Claire Moore in London shortly after opening. I’ve also seen Claire as Christine in Phantom so she’s very versatile indeed. I think I’m right in saying Claire also sings Jazz
goosebumps for straight 7 seconds lol
The song was like 4 minutes long.
+musicaltheatergeek79 7sec was my longest. haha
Oh, you were experiencing afterglow. XD
I love this song so much
can't help not to shed a tear. :( so emotional. both were amazing. great talents!
Major chills !!
Thank God, I discovered this kind of songs/genre in my generation
I
ang ganda kasi ng voice quality niya, magagaling yung mga sumunod na kim technically pero iyong voice quality ni Lea at 18 yrs old is sobrang maganda at angat sa iba
