He’s the president of the BHHC (Ben Hope hate club) and he takes his role of that very seriously
I actually do not hate Ben. I hate what he did and his attitude, but he is part of our community. I want him to accept who he is, realise his mistakes, seek forgiveness from Charlie and be their friend maybe and get a bf possibly to if he wants.

I think the reason the ‘jocks’ in this show don’t look like the typical jocks in American shows is because they used actual teenagers. A 16 yr old, even a strong fit one doesn’t typically look like the 25 yr old men they usually cast in those roles.

@@divcoge1506 the oldest people in my school are like 20 and they still don't look like the jocks in the movies. so i don't really know what kind of school you went to, but it could have just been your imagination i guess. when we're younger (and smaller) everything seems so much bigger and people even just one year above you can look SO much older than you in your head.
@@divcoge1506 i left highschool almost 2 yrs ago (uk) and all of my classmates at the time looked roughly the same age as the characters in this show, with maybe a handful of exceptions bc of genetics etc
There's this theory about Tao's hair that he's growing it out to protest the rule that Elle was suspended for (chin-length maximum). It's still not exactly a pretty style but it excuses it a bit!

Listening to reviewers who read the books, that's what they indicated. When Ell first meets Darcy, she mentions being suspended for her hair length. This is Tao's way of protesting the hair length suspensions given to Ell. There's apparently also hypocrisy as Tao is not being suspended for his hair length.
@@TheMotWay Tao does not have long hair in the comics. So this is absolutely not a book thing. Just a show thing.
@@AnxietyRat Thanks for the correction. As the author was on set during the filming, maybe they made the change. They mentioned a British slang for the hair length which got Ell expelled. I'm curious to know if Tao's hair is longer than the approved length.
I just love how even though Nick isn’t sure about his sexuality, he’s always been 100% sure about CHARLIE. And that’s just lovely 💜💜
What's hilarious is that Kit (Nicks actor) originally auditioned for the role of Charlie. And he was like..."yeah, I don't fit the description of the character at all but I'm going to do it anyway!" Must have been hilarious for the casting people...Nick Nelson literally walks out of the book and is auditioning for Charlie. 🤣🤣🤣

Massive heterosexual here, and can confirm this show is the literal best. It takes you right back to those school days and the way your heart flutters just sitting next to your person. It's precious and beautiful and everything your community deserves to see itself in. It absolutely is a comfort show!

This is the best kind of show that LGBT youth needed, and it's really relatable regarding friendships and conflicts, it doesn't try to be super dramatic for no reason.

The thing is, for us gays old enough to be out of school, we _can’t_ be taken back to school days with fluttering hearts: we didn’t get to experience that. That’s why this show is so meaningful: it represents our hope for the future where LGBT+ kids _do_ get to experience puppy love in similar ways to their straight peers. And it shows LGBT+ kids that their feelings _aren’t_ wrong. When I was a kid, the only gays on the screen were either super-camp comic relief, or ended in tragedy. There weren’t any depictions of gay people in healthy relationships.

Its just really sad what the actors have to deal with now. Like Nicks Actor gets sexualized so much he even talked about how it makes him uncomfortable and Charlies actor gets so much hate from people calling him ugly.

this show is incredible. I have never seen such a healthy and real and wholesome lgbt+ show in my whole life. i don’t even know how many times i’ve watched this and it hasn’t even been out for a month.
I was introduced to this show two weeks ago and I've watched all 8 episodes everyday since then. Then proceeded to read the comics and watch all the reactions I could find. It is so damn wholesome and sweet
you should srsly watch young royals (also on netflix) i have been so obsessed w this show for over a month now and its CRAZYY!! i watched it after heartstopper (read the comic too) and i can say it has a lot more angst if ur into stuff like that :)

Regarding Tao. He’s very protective of Charlie (after Charlie was outed and constantly bullied last year) and insecure about losing his support group (especially after Elle transferred to the girl’s school after she came out as transgender). He grew out his hair to stand in solidarity with Elle when she began growing out her hair and transitioning.
He’s probably one of my favorite characters in the show.
All of that is true except the hair thing. That is only a fan theory that has not been confirmed by Alice.
Appearently, Alice said on tumblr that it was just to make the actor look more dorky. So the solidarity thing it just a theory.
It was not also cleared out but if I remember in the comics, Tao somehow was the reason why Charlie was consistently bullied because he unintentionally outed Charlie when someone overheard them talk about his sexuality. Hopefully it would be cleared up in the next 2 Seasons.🥹
@@micoooo8302 yeah...they assume that's how people found out in the comics. Theres no way to know for sure, I suppose. But yeah...that's what's implied. Tao talked too loudly in the halls and others heard him.

I get Tao though. If you've ever had a friend who has been severely bullied or you are the brunt of the bullying, when you have that one friend that stands up for you and protects you, it can literally be them saving your life because you know that one person's got you. He's that role for Charlie with his dealing with bullies in the past and so he gets understandably hurt that someone he reps for is kind of ditching that tight nit circle and bond they formed and not telling him certain truths. It's not Charlie's fault for some of that, I mean relationships, especially new ones tend to do that...drift you away from your friends for a bit which Tau CLEARLY isn't used to, but in his heart I think Tao is that protective older brother through and through. They get annoying from time to time, but you know they will always support you and watch out for you.
i actually really love tao. he's so protective of all his friends, he doesn't want charlie to get hurt by nick, because he assumes nick is just like the other rugby guys, bc he doesn't have much reason to think different. elle already left so she could go to higgs, and tao just wants to feel safe and secure in his friendships

im so sad that everyone hates tao! he is my favorite character. he has been standing up for charlie and protecting him from bullies and been loyal to him since they were 11 years old. he was with him during all of his bullying after coming out the year prior. he loves charlie so so much and wants to protect him at all costs. unfortunately because he doesnt know about nick and charlie, all tao sees is someone just like the ones that bullied charlie last year getting close with him and leading him on. he is genuinely worried for his friend. i just love tao so much!
I personally like the graphic novel better but they did so good with keeping it as close as they could

Yeah...the lack of swearing in the show makes me like the graphic novels waaay more. The scenes hit SO much harder with the fucks kept in compared to the show diologue. 🤷♀️ But that's just my opinion. And I understand why they took them out...for the younger audience. Just...sucks a bit.

The reason Isaac is so low-key this season is because they were testing the character's dynamic with the group since he wasn't an established character in the comics
But the author has started having great plans for him on following seasons

This show has become such a comfort show, it just great to see such a wholesome LGBTQIA show (that still has its ups and downs) but it’s not overdramatise or anything
Also love that the characters and actors actually feel like teens
If u read the comics it's more appearant of why he can't grasp nick liking him, not only the whole been thing but throughout the whole thing there are moments we're he is made to feel lesser than and unworthy

I just happened upon this reaction to "Heartstopper", and I'm really enjoying your commentary, especially regarding TV shows/series/films, centered around love stories. I DO want to feel like I'm falling in love, as I'm watching these types of programs, and with this series, the audience is taken on the journey of new love that is being discovered with ALL of the pairings. It's wonderful.
