I never thought this series would get animated. It's pretty dark. Himari is the last surviving descendant of the Momochi Clan. She has the blood of the Nue running through her veins (hence why she's the one who can operate the house with her authority). Spoiler below: I'm excited to see how they animate Aoi's ritual of being pierced by a thousand needles. I wonder if they even animate it. The whole suicide issue that gets shown. I wonder how they handle Kasha's appearance. The other Nue's that existed (the backstories shown). How about the professor that trapped Aoi into going into the abandoned Momochi House ten years ago? That same professor being cursed into a Ogre for wanting to touch something he could never have. I'm so ready to see the series animated. :)
Do not judge shows by their trailer alone. I’m someone who has very picky standards after years of watching anime and almost ignored Apothecary Diaries because nothing of the trailer blew me away, and it may now be my favorite anime of all time or at least definitely in my top three. I’m not saying that this show will come anywhere near that level because this trailer looks way worse, but watch at least 3-5 episodes of a new show before deciding whether to drop it or not.
Neither. This story is very bittersweet. If had any remote similarities the familiar aspect is similar to that in Kamisama Kiss. Hpwever. pther than that the series doesn't have any other similarity to it. If anything its more Kemono Jihen like set up in the narrative of a tragic love story. This story is dark and I do wonder on they will try to animate some scenes (if they do).
So many people here in the comments say, that the anime should be kinda dark. I hope that's true. On my favourite anime website there are only tags like "Shoujo" or "Romance"...
Considering the disturbing accurate yokai lore, suicide, kidnapping, and the Momochi House itself erasing the memories of anyone who knows the Momochi House it's pretty dark. The ending is bittersweet and the implications of the Nue (consisting of six yokai who is one powerful being) being trapped in such a confined space has consequences. Each host has a tragic life. This series has many cute moments, but it has more dark moments than anything else.
