NorCal715 I would like to thank for sharing your knowledge of this TV because it allowed me to fix mine today and it works wonderfully if you asked my wife, she thanked me but I've got to thank you because at the end of the day I had to replace Y-Main Sustain Board, that I had to get out of Canada because I couldn't get it from ShopJimmy it was out of stock, but I want to thank you for inspirational instructional walk through with the Fluke Malty-Meter to understand how to interact with the TP (Test Points) on that Logic Board as well as some of the others, and when I got my heart beat I knew that I'd fixed my TV so Thanks.

Thanks for the great video! I have a Samsung C550 series plasma with the purple sparkly band and the the VS adjustment worked perfectly! I am above the spec of 209 by 2 volts, but the band is gone and TV life is good!!!

Samsung says + or - by up to 15 volts is acceptable. as the plasma panel ages the setup voltages change. also temperature affects it as well.

Thank you so much for your great video. My Samsung PN51D550 is having issues powering up (clicking on and off) and i couldnt find any blown capacitors on the power board, but after doing some research, I thought it could be the power board and ordered a new one.
I wished I found your video earlier as I would of have spent more time diagnosing the components to determine exactly where the issue is as I think its not the power supply anymore.

I have this exact model and on the y buffer board I came up with 0 resistance for the ohms test on the points you describe. Before I spend the money is there something else I can do to verify that this is the culprit? You also mention you typically have to replace all of the y boards, should I just purchase all the boards or is there something else to check to determine if it is just the buffer board? Thanks. Oh and great video BTW, very informative.

    Hello,
    I own a 2011 plasma 51’ D550.
I have black horizontal lines on the down third of the screen.
I clean both side of the down rubbon plug ged but still got the line.
How can I find if I have to change the LJ92-01761A or the other side bigger panel?
    Thank you for your help

Norcal This video was awesome Thanks! I was able to follow your tips step by step and everything works just the same as in your video besides the screen stays black when the main board is hooked back up. If the test mode worked with all the colors and patterns but the screen is black with main board plugged in would that be an obvious main board replacement? Thanks for your help.

Thank you for the terrific video! I have a Samsung pn51d530a3f. The layout is basically identical. My power supply is a p/n BN44-0444D. My plasma tv started doing the flicking on and off thing a couple days ago and now it does nothing. No lights, no power up, no standby lights, etc. When I test the power connector on the power supply board as you showed, I do get the standby power on the pins 1 and 2, however I get nothing on pin 4 where yours would typically show 15v. Also nothing on the other pins 7 and above. Are these only energized on the startup of the tv? That would make sense why I'm not seeing voltage on them if that's the case. I don't see any visual swelling of caps on the power supply board (not necessarily an indication that they are good though). My initial thought is that this is a PS issue. I've unplugged the Y and X boards and still nothing. I'd rather buy a new power supply board if that's what the problem is. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Again- Thanks for the time you took to post this very informative video!

Here’s a question for you. I have this exact TV (Samsung PN51D550C1FXZA) and have followed everything you’ve done in this video. I’ve replaced all boards except the Y and X main boards. Still does not work. I tried jumping the tv but I still don’t get test patterns. I did notice that the green LED on both the new and old logic main board is not present. What could that mean? Any ideas on why this tv still doesn’t work?

Thank you for the awesome vid. It was very helpful as I have an issue with the same model tv. I was watching tv one day only after about maybe an hour when there was a pretty loud pop and the screen shut off. It then began to cycle through this process to turn on but never does. The power led blinks twice five times while making the clicking sound the set makes when it attempts to turn on but nothing ever comes up on the screen. I took the back panel off and expected to see some blown capacitors but have not found any. I would really appreciate some feed back if you have any recommendations for troubleshooting. It is my only tv and of course it is out of Warranty, any feedback if greatly appreciated.

I have the slow heart beat that you mention, but this is only after I have unplugged the left board (when looking from the back side) from the power supply board. With this board plugged in I get the 5 sets of click click CLICK of the unit trying to fire up, and then nothing be a flashing red light on the front of the unit. I get same slow heart beat issue when I plug the left board back in and unplug the right board from the left board. Your thoughts and or advise sure would be appreciated. Thanks.

Great video. I have a Samsung PN50b450B1DXZA All the power seem to be OK VSC s -193, Va is 55, Vs is 209, Ve is 89. the heart beat led beats at one a second. I tried the test you demonstrated with the jumper on pins 3 and 4 and lines to the main board shorted. I get nothing on the screen. The y-buffer was replaced along with the Y-main.I also replaced the X-main. The tv played for a few days and a component blew on the X-main a small six leg device at location Q4201. I returned that X main and got another neew one now I get nothing on the screen. Could my screen have blown when the component blew on the x main? I have correct voltages all over the tv and a blinking heart beat led bit no picture. Is there a way to test the screen to see if it is bad?

The ohm test on my Y-Buffer board failed.
There's a heat sink (small black one) on the Y-Main Board that seems really hot when the TV is plugged in for awhile. I'm assuming a short on the Y-Main Board.
Question 1: would ordering a Y-Main Board be enough, or would both Main Board and Buffer Board be needed?
Question 2: would a Y-Main/Buffer board from any PN51D550C1FXZA work, or do the numbers on the stickers have to match exactly?

Ok I have a Samsung pn51d530a3fxza. When I plug the tv in it tries to start but then sounds like it is shut down. Video board optical lights up for a bit then turns off but the green led on the main logic board flashes normally. No standby light either. All voltages on power supply check out normal. Any thoughts. Could a bad video board cause something like this?

Does the Samsung 42'' Plasma HPT4254X/XAA have the self test option? I disconected the main board, Shorted pins 3 and 4 on the logic board and grounded pson. Power board went on had all the right volts Vs205, Va63, green light on logic was flashing about once a second but no self test picture, screen was dead so I was wondering does this model offer this test or is there something else wrong. Thanks

I have the exact Samsung model and I seem to be having an issue with the standby power from what I'm gathering. When I power the TV all I get is a "clicking" sound that repeats about 4 times and no image on the screen at all after. I have taken off the back exposing all the boards and checked for basic damage of the parts (no bulging capacitors, fried parts etc..). At this point I have no idea what direction to take, what would you recommend?

norcal - im trouble shooting a s50wh-yd14 plasma, which I believe the power board is the issue. the vs-tp should read 205v which is reading 10.9v and the va-tp should read 58v which is reading 0.0 now, was reading 2.9v. no caps are blown or browning on the board. I know the voltages are way low. so replace the psu ?

You mentioned, that If VA and Vs voltages going down to 0 mean short on X or Y main. I have this fault with voltages, and voltage get back to normal if I disconnect y buffer. How to localize if it fall it y buffer or y main? If y buffer is connected, but screen flexies disconnected Va and Vs still going down. Tv is getting on and not looping like it was when I had short.

Hi. The video of my PL51D550 (Brazilian Model of PN51D550) is not working anymore. Yesterday I was watching TV then I heard a sound like a shot and then video was gone. Only audio works. I did all the tests of this video on my tv, everything is fine, but the last one ("self test"), that is supposed to show some patterns on screen didn't work. What is the problem then, the Ysus board?

I too have a Samsung plasma tv PS43D450A2 model with horizontal black lines in the middle part of the screen.
    The tv is fully operational.
The voltages on all test points of the power supply, y-main board test points read fine according to plasma screen stickerwith Va, Vs and Ve readings. The X main voltage at test point XS-E is 78V
But when i test the voltages across the smd resistors R5149 to R5154 and smd zener diodes D5504 to D5506 (marking PJ1389) on the Y-buffer board, i found that the voltage is fluctuating between 45V and 30V. It keeps dancing up and down on all the resistors and diodes across the y-buffer board.
I felt the ICs on the board with my fingers and they were all warm. Nothing too hot or cold. Is this a voltage regulation issue from the y-main board or a y-buffer board issue? Little confusion here ;-) The heart beat led light on the logic board is good. I have tried re-seating the flex cables on the y -buffer too. The only thing bothering me is the fluctuation in voltage across the resistors/diodes on the y-buffer board.
Could it be bad capacitors on y-main board? But the test point voltages on the y-main read ok. So the confusion haha.
Any feedback will be really helpful.
    Thanks n regards

Hello norcal715, I would appreciate your help. I have a 50" Samsung plasma that suddenly quit working. Narrowed it down to the y-sustain board by unplugging the power connections. I replaced the y-sustain and the tv will turn on with sound only. I am still unsure how to narrow it down by using a volt meter. What can I do to figure out what is wrong? I have a hunch that the y-buffer needs replaced. Regardless, your help would be appreciated.

jackalackaslim Hello, try replacing the T-Con Card. It is cheap and you can test components from the new to the old and then fix old and have a spare. Also, if you put some computer on the vents to keep the air moving I used the push pull method on mine. Good luck.

When on, it has steady standby power but when I test the VS and VA ports, the power drains down right away. I am wanting to force it into setup mode to restore factory settings but my Logic Main PCB (LJ41-10169A) is different than the one in your video. It just has 4 holes labeled 1 through 4. I have a Samsung plasma PN64E7000FFXZA TW02 that does not power on. On the power supply (BN44-00516A) I measure all the low voltage pins within spec (5.3V & 15V). PS_ON and VS_ON are 0.15V so pulled down, I assume the power supply is turned on. However I do not have VS or VA voltage. The two fuses are OK. I have the Y boards disconnected so I assume without a load I should see VS and VA if the power supply is OK. Is my assumption correct? Is there any why the logic board could prevent VS and VA from turning on?

    • @projecthopeless7989
      @projecthopeless7989 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Ok If I jump PS_ON to Gnd and VS_ON to 5V the power supply works (5,15,VA & Vs). If I plug in the logic board I do not get VS or VA. If I jump PS_ON and VS_ON with the YS board connected it pulls VS and VA down near zero. So does that mean a short on that board or can it be a weak power supply?

    • @jaymerjaymer
      @jaymerjaymer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I have similar set. without doing any jumpers, I have no Va or Vs voltage. I do have 5v & 15v all 3 plugs coming from PS board. I get no sound, no picture. Green LED is 5 seconds on, 2 seconds off, which indicates DRV Reset. I'm assuming that I have a bad PS board.

Any help appreciated. What I see is a lot of voltage checking assuming the TV will turn on. But my TV won't turn on at all. So I'm limited on what I can check. i.e. I checked the main board's IR and other and all showed 0V even when pressing the remote. But I don't think that's a good test as I believe the power supply is bad (although all caps looks 100% (not bulging/burn on top). The PS On voltage is only 2.93 and I can't check to see if it goes to zero when switching on the TV as it won't switch on with the remote. (a) I would think 2.93 is too far off from 3.3V anyway leading me to think it's the PS? (b) is there a way to mechanically switch the TV (fake using the remote by shorting wires maybe?
For kicks, I check VS adj and VA adj and both are OV (video only talks about if one is zero but doesn't say what to do/check if both are 0V).
    Thanks.

I took a chance and ordered a new power supply on epay and it works!!! It seems that the PS boards come and go. Shopjimmy was out as were all the other online places. I paid a premium and looked today adn there's a ton listed for cheap. My Va voltage was only .8V off and Vs was 1V off. I chose not to adjust them as it seems from this video that it's acceptable to be 5% off?

Thanks so much for your video, however I am still a bit lost as to what is causing my fault. here is what I have done:
    I have a Samsung PS50A Plasma TV.
Symptom 1 - No standby LED light
Symptom 2 - Power LED is on
Symptom 3 - No picture or sound
Symptom 4 - No response to front buttons or remote control
Test 1 - VS Scan Voltage is correct on PSU and on Y Main
Test 2 - VA Voltage is working and correct
Test 3 - Ve Voltage is correct on PSU and in X Main
    Test 4 - Voltages correct on CN801 (3v points reporting as 5v)
    Test 5 - Voltages correct on CN802 (3v points reporting as 5v)
Test 6 - Logic Board LED blinking once per second
Test 7 - Mainboard disconnected and cable shorted, Logic board shorted into test mode and all patterns displayed on screen as expected. I expect that this means my X and Y boards are ok
Test 8 - All faulty capacitors have been replaced. Two replaced on Y Main and one replaced on X Main.
Test 9 - I can see a voltage drop on CN201 Pin 1 when pressing the remote buttons.
Can I assume that is is my Main board that is faulty. Can you advise? Thanks again for helping with diagnosing this problem.

Hi, I have 0 volts on VS and VATP. Does this mean my power board is bad?

What if Vs and Va are both low or nil?

Check for shouts on both the Y-main and X-main boards on the VA/VS lines.

    iv a Samsung ps51d550c1kxxu
As i was watching a dark patch appeared in the right hand top corner and began spreading slowly across the screen untill
i lost all the picture but had sound at first and had a flashing standby light.
also there was a humming buzzing noise coming from the right hand side of the tv looking from the rear i remove the back cover and i could see a led flashing away on a small circuit board,
i turned the power off and removed the board were i thought the buzzing noise was coming from to check it for swollen capacitors etc
i had no luck so i removed the power supply board and checked this for the same with no luck.
i put them back together turned the tv on
but now the buzzing sound has gone and the led in no longer flashing
i can here the click of the relay when i power the tv up and the standby light flashes for a short time then stops
any ideas would be great i haven't even had the tv 2 years yet
thank you in advance for any help

Sounds like you had arcing on the invertor or on one of the tubes. Buzzing = something high voltage is arcing.
