Here is a breakdown of Barry Harris magnificent intro and in head on "It Could Happen To You", from his masterful solo piano album "Live at Maybeck Recital Hall". Basically every measure has something amazing that we can learn from!

I have to say as good as the first part is, the best stuff is in the second half of the in head 😁
These are the videos I mention:

Thank you for making Barry 5% comprehensible as opposed to being 0% comprehensible as is normally the case for this beginner.

I think Barry must have learned that trick from Monk. He’s about the only other pianist I notice that will quickly release certain notes in a chord while leaving others pressed for the full duration of the chord. Seems like a continuation or another aspect of Monk’s stark aesthetic. Beautiful and strange. Always cool to learn from you Master Zaleski.

Deep stuff ive always liked the song by Jimmy Van Heusen and johnny Burke and heard many differant versions of it from Etta James to Kieth Jarret it is a very rich harmonic and melodic song thanks fors your break down

Geat video. At 7:30 I think you are missing the middle C in that dominant chord which I'm sure i can hear in the recording

Awesome video! There's another gorgeous version of Barry playing this tune on Marian McPartland's show (th-cam.com/video/8SS8t6RzoWM/w-d-xo.html). The timestamp is 1:33.

Alot of Barry's harmonic "interpretations" are borrowed from Bud Powell's recordings, and this one is no exception...
