    It’s always so interesting to hear your thought process as you are adapting a card that you aren’t happy with. It’s a lovely card and I think the gold leaves are really cool! Glad you all were able to get out and enjoy the day! Hope everyone stays healthy 💚

      I love that too. I’m much less interested in crafters who only show a polished version. My life and definitely my crafting is NOT like that. I want warts-and-all, this is how you fix it, these are some of the many options, type crafting!!!

    I really like the extra green shading over the leaves. Honestly, I think the leaves alone with a sentiment would make a lovely, simple card!

    With the green you added I think the card is pretty. I really appreciate that you talked about how the card didn't originally come out as you had planned and then how you changed it. Thank you for sharing!

    I really like the gold leaves and yes, sponging the green around the edges was perfect to bring the focal image into focus. Lovely card and colors. And oh my goodness, yes! Trying to pack up your kids to go somewhere - by yourself - is SO HARD! Good for you getting it done.

    I love how you just keep working at it until it looks somewhat how you want it to. I would have been tearing the focal point off near the end, but you just keep working it. Love it!

    I will definitely give the copics shading with the help of the stencil a try. Kelly all your cards are beautiful. With that said I think I would have liked it with the leaves behind the flower minus green fancy circle. Glad you and your family got to get out and have some fun and I hope your kids stay well. Thanks for sharing you time and talent with us.

    Overall it is a beautiful card, adding the green shading really did push the leaves back, although it seems a little busy I would still love getting something so pretty in the mail, so win-win and it’s nice to step outside the comfort zone and I appreciate you teaching the shading and using a stencil to kind of help with a starting point for the Copic coloring.

    Yes, my husband called that herding cats…. Even when we got them ready for travel (he would pack up the hockey gear (often but not all of our trips) and the bags and I would pack for the 5 of us - eventually Dad had to learn to pack for himself and often had to do things for work as well

    The green ink blending definitely did help the flowers pop. I LOVE green … so that’s a plus too! The gold leaves … brilliant. Perhaps a layer of vellum over the leaves might’ve softened the background… but it definitely looks fine as it is. Hugs Andrea (enchantink_aus) ❣️💖💕

    I definitely think putting the green all around the edge made a big difference in guiding you back to the main event. I love layering stencils, but feel like they need a little more depth and texture. I’ve been using my prismacolors to accomplish that.

  • @beaksalot

    The card is beautiful! Part of the fun of crafting for me is seeing how something turns out in the end, because a LOT of times it's different than how my brain built it first.

  • @barbborja1910
    @barbborja1910 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The card is adorable. I agree with you that the background was a little too busy and my first thought was to ink blend around the edges of the background, which really helped. If you still can’t let it go (I have the same issue at times) maybe try adding either a light grey or tan to tone down the vibrancy of the green? I love how you added the drop shadow though. I wouldn’t have thought to do that, but hopefully will remember the next time.

  • @andrealavigne7824
    @andrealavigne7824 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like the final card, but 2 potential solutions came to mind when you were talking about how it looked too busy. One option (which would have to be done from the get-go) might be to use lighter greens on the leafy background stenciling. I just thought the colors you chose were too similar in value/intensity to the colors in the flower arrangement. The other would have been to add vellum between the background & your die cut circle & floral elements. I've done that with a busy background. Of course, the challenge there is adhering the vellum, since it's covering such a large area - basically the whole card. I have often ended up using either hand stitching or my sewing machine to stitch the vellum panel in place. Or, add a cardstock frame around the background to hide adhesive for the vellum. Of course, with the large foreground elements on your card, that wouldn't have worked too well in this case, I think. I did just think of a third option, though I'm not sure if it would be your style. You could take white acrylic paint & do a light dry-brushed coat - not solid, of course - over the background leaves. Just to knock them back a little. That might give it a more rustic look, or maybe just distressed, depending on how you applied the paint. But I do think ink blending with the lighter green ink around the perimeter of the background knocked back the contrast of the leaves with the white cardstock enough to make the card work. Great job, at any rate! :) Thank you for sharing your artwork & life stories. You mentioned Fall coming. I'm personally kind of torn. We have had such hot (high 90s to low 100s) days for most of the summer here in East Texas, it's been just absolutely miserable. Of course, the drought we're in hasn't helped any! So I hope that cooler temps - & maybe even rain - are coming soon with the season changing. But, Fall means the holidays are fast approaching. With my depression, that can be a tough time for me, so I don't tend to look forward to Thanksgiving & Christmas. Thankfully, it's not as bad as it used to be, but still, it's there & I have to put more effort into not being a burden on people around me. Anyway, thank you again for sharing. Take care, & I hope y'all have an awesome day! :)

    Honestly, it is a very busy design, even for me who likes busier than you. But….. I’ve been there. My default for a too busy background is vellum. It just defuses the behind so the forward can shine. But your coloring additions are phenomenal! I like to watch. I don’t color. Lol

    Kelly, this is beautiful! I never thought of using copics over stamping! It added a lot of depth to your lovely flowers! I LOVE this stamp set! I love how you loosely embossed embossing powder! An idea for the leaves-- if you used different colors, it could look like confetti/streamers! Pop a congratulations on it and done! Do you need to use a certain type of ink to ho over it with copics, so it doesn't ruin our markers, please?

    I think the card is too bust for me. Wondering if you would've put a piece of vellum over the background if it would've helped to mute the starkness of the green. The flower stamp is absolutely gorgeous!
