I think it's so important that you mentioned how you only film people who have consented to be in your videos, even if they're just in the background. It really shows the level of care and concern you have for everyone at the hospital, not just your patients.
Well, how about the traffic light asking for consent, or the camera on the street watching over people, or all the people in Disney World? Everyone records and doesn't ask for consent. Just my own view on things.
That's what initially connected them. When she first mentioned him - I think it was in a Q&A she said that they met in her 2nd and his 1st year of med school at some kind of party where she lived or something. To introduce herself she'd drawn a violin and he saw it and asked who plays the violin.
An ambulance was once called for me because I was feeling incredibly light headed and couldn't stop shaking. When the paramedics arrived, they checked my blood sugar, and could swear I remember hearing a gasp. Turns out I was severely hypoglycemic. The paramedics debated whether to administer glucagon seeing as they’d never given the shot to someone conscious before, reiterating their disbelief that I was awake. Fortunately, I managed to eat tons of sugar tablets and stabilize, but the thought of enduring a 72-hour fast after a couple seizures is so scary! I hope the girl who went through that is okay now and recovering smoothly.
the doctor's orchestra sounds like something i would love to do! I'm a freshman studying neuroscience and I'm also preparing to give my grade 5 violin exams. I had no idea something like this existed!!!
Dr. Deshauer, you are amazing! As a medical student, your videos have been so helpful during my medical education. Ex : just the other day, my teacher told our class of a strange case involving a man with a red rash, swollen legs, joint pain, subdermal hematomas and a restricted diet. I answered : "did the patient have scurvy? And the doctor replied : "yes he did". Thank you for all of your videos Dr. Deshauer!
I missed watching your videos! They always bring so much joy into my day as your work ethic is amazing, you are extremely caring and well-spoken and I admire that you are so knowledgable!

always people tell you that medicine is so hard ..... but when you see your patient feeling good after that he was suffering...... it s just a great felling
Thank you for this video! Your vlogs are so wonderful for igniting excitement about learning. I just covered the endocrine system in my physiology class, so I am going to share this video with my students!
Not someone into medicine or thinking of getting into medicine but still enjoy watching your videos to see what happens behind the scenes at the hospital!!
As a Type 1 Diabetic AND who has a large history (past and present) of seizures, this was so cool to watch!! Seeing things from the inside and kinda opposite of what a T1D diagnosis might be was interesting!! Great to see you again and glad to have you back!!
Hi beautiful Dr!! I used to suffer with hypoglycemia and it got to be a daily issue and what healed it for me was cutting out sugar completely and now I only get it once every few weeks maybe and only if I’m trying to lose weight by fasting it’s been three years now and I have zero cravings for sugar It’s been totally worth it! 🎉
Hi Rosie Austin. I'm a type2 diabetic & my sister was hypoglycemic. We were both told not to eat sugar. Oddly we weren't told to restrict grains or fruit, but we figured that out ourselves. More needs to be done to help people understand how sugar (whether from table sugar, fruit or high carb foods) can affect our health. I don't fast, but I do follow a very, very low carb way of eating and that has helped me to lose weight (85lbs) & become less insulin resistant.
@rosieaustin9911 It really upsets me when I see a toddler sucking down a giant slushy loaded with a ton of sugar and chemicals. I'm a firm believer that this is the primary reason there are so many young people with health issues.
crazy to think that i started watching your channel when I was about 12 or 13, and now im turning 18 in a few months. it’s really nice to watch your videos again!
Your video always have a calming and slow down effect, almost like meditating and emptying the head. Recharge the brain after being able to focus on your vids❤
you are seriously the best doctor I have ever seen. i absolutely love watching your videos and they have really kept me curious about my own health journey. unfortunately i have not been with the best healthcare and still wondering what is going on with me. you are actually a doctor who digs deeper and wants to find out what's wrong compared to most who just see you once and hope they give you the right answer. if you are able to give a tiny bit of free advice to send me on the right direction i would love to hear back from you. but i am extremely happy to see you back to vlogging and knowing you've kept busy and making positive life choices throughout the time you were gone. :)
Great video! I just had a patient of mine do the 72hr fast for workup of insulinoma. Felt so bad for the patient to undergo it, but so worth it to figure out what is going on! I'm a new medical intern, so was definitely one of the more fascinating work up/cases I've seen so far
I really wish more doctors were like you. Who find cases interesting and wanting to dig deep to find out the cause of the issues a patient is having. So many just want to skip over and move onto the next patient. It’s happen to me so many times and still is. After seeing multiple doctors I have just accepted that this is how it is.
I’m so happy you’ve taken some of your valuable time to make a video for us. I too didn’t realize Mark also plays. Congratulations on a Million subs. I’ve followed you since the early med school days . Let’s shoot for 2 Million !!
That's what initially connected them. When she first mentioned him - I think it was in a Q&A she said that they met in her 2nd and his 1st year of med school at some kind of party where she lived or something. To introduce herself she'd drawn a violin and he saw it and asked who plays the violin.
I finally came across your videos again! I watched back when you were a second year resident like 5/6 years ago!! :) It's so amazing to see you succeed so much!
As someone with a prolactinoma I appreciate your enthusiasm and passion in ur career so much. Every nurse who has helped me has my full heart because without you guys we have absolutely nothing. Thank you beautiful soul ❤
I start EMT school in August and I am so excited. In my county EMTs work on ambulances and in the ER and these videos have been great to watch!! Eventually I plan on going to university to become a forensic pathologist. This is just my first step in my career!
Please keep uploading these videos. I have binge-watched all of them twice or more and await the next notification. More please if your schedule permits and thank you!
You make this super complicated career sound so fun & interesting! I’ve watched you for years now, and I have to say that I am so proud of you and how far/where you’ve gotten in life! I love your positivity, your upbeat energy, your professionalism, and your knowledge!! Keep going! ❤️
Yesss! I love it when violins are part of your vlogs because even though I don't play, it was the reason that my eye caught your early vlogs with an interesting mix of medicine and music.
So happy that you made a video about this. I have had pretty regular, severe hypoglycemia episodes since I was 10-11 years old (I'm now 44). I've learned to grab sugar and carbs, which definitely hasn't helped my weight. My last A1C was 4.0, and my blood glucose regularly dips into the 50s mg/dl. At age 11, I had a glucose tolerance test because I was having issues with hypoglycemia that eventually led to several episodes of passing out. My glucose went down to 36 or 37 mg/dl at the end of that test...and the doctor told me to just eat more protein. 🤦♀️ I haven't had a single doctor who cares that the hypoglycemia is persistent and can be dangerous at times. At 44, I often wake up through the night with hypoglycemia and have to grab something to eat. I hate it! This gives me a little hope that maybe I'll find a doctor who's willing to listen and actually runs appropriate tests. I've given up on doctors and haven't seen mine in years.
I’m so sorry to hear you have been struggling with this for so long! Yes don’t give up on having it investigated - you deserve answers and hopefully some peace of mind!
Welcome back. I was missing your vlogs. Sad that doctors don't get to know the followup of patients they saw... it would provide a good feedback mechanism for continuing improvement. I really enjoy your videos, very entertaining and learning so much about what a doctor does and how to keep healthy all the time. Your advise is amazing. You for sure need to make more videos, I really really want to see more because they are so enjoyable to watch.
Welcome back!! I also went to Phoenix recently and enjoyed the beautiful scenery (Botanical Gardens were fabulous!) and riding around in the waymo! I was not expecting to see that in your video!
Loved the update! I think it is great that you show the balance of being a doctor. Even if that balance shifts dramatically from working a lot to having more spare time.
So great to see you Siobhan and glad a lot is happening on your end to keep you busy and healthy. Always been a fan of your contents. Been seeing them since first year of your medical resident time :)

I hope your half & full marathons went/ go well!! ❤ It's funny I still expect to hear "a ... year medical resident" at the beginning of your videos even though it's been a long time now 😄
I’m so happy for you guys that you’ve been having some special time to yourselfs and being able to achieve some self goals. You’re really getting that balance in. But of course so glad so se you again love the videos. X

So happy to see a new blog! You seem like such a wonderful doctor! How wonderful you were able to play in an all doctor orchestra! Good luck on the half and full marathons!
Just had jaw surgery and I haven’t watched you in so long but you taught me a lot to the point I was able to understand what they were saying here and there and surprised a nurse when I mentioned your name she watched you too! It’s wild! So here I am to say hi again
Hi Siobhan, I am curious sometimes how do you balance all of your hobbies and work? It's so impressive. I would be interested to see a day in the life style vlog!
Wow this case hits home for me. I took one week of high dose prednisone at end of December and my blood sugars have been all over the map with extreme highs and lows blood glucose . I’ve had numerous blood tests showing very high C Peptide levels, high insulin levels, normal GAD65 antibody results, negative anti-pancreatic islet cell antibody screen. Yesterday, I had a Suppression test for Cushings. It’s really hard getting into an Endocrinologist where I live in Southwestern Ontario even though we have two, they just refuse referrals if you don’t meet their unknown criteria. We will have to wait to see what happens next. This blog is very encouraging for me because it looks like we are moving in the right direction. Thank you
I graduated from French medical school, bit lost interest in medecine because of American healthcare policies. This lady makes me want to be a doctor all-over again.
I think it's so important that you mentioned how you only film people who have consented to be in your videos, even if they're just in the background. It really shows the level of care and concern you have for everyone at the hospital, not just your patients.
Many healthcare facilities forbid filming, period.
Well, how about the traffic light asking for consent, or the camera on the street watching over people, or all the people in Disney World? Everyone records and doesn't ask for consent. Just my own view on things.
@@lovedfriend2020 … and that goes to show what an extra special person Siobhan is for not doing that doesn’t it?
It’s more of a level of concern about a lawsuit that could be filed, if she did not have their consent
I mean, she has to. Everyone knows healthcare is strict with filming.
The Queen has resurrected from the ashes of healthcare 😂
😂🥰
I have missed you guys can you give a list of concerts

Welcome back. I was missing your vlogs.
Sad that doctors don't get to know the followup of patients they saw... it would provide a good feedback mechanism for continuing improvement.
