In simple words, no other phone could satisfy me in the same way Huawei does. I cannot wait to get mate50. As for 5G, I already have two 5G phones and I don't understand the fuss about this technology. Where I live 5G simply sucks. I am quite happy with 4G+. I feel your disappointment in not having GMS but despite of those limitations, Huawei managed to sell 10 Millions of Mate 50 series. That's a win over US sanctions. Keep up the good work. Love from India my friend. I am hoping if you could make a camera comparison between Mate 50 Pro vs iPhone 14 Pro vs Pixel 7 Pro as except Huawei, rest 2 are top of the DxOmark chart devices and I'm interested to know how does Huawei fair in comparison without Leica partnership.

I'm gonna get this Mate 50 Pro (am using Mate 30 for the longest time already). Who needs Google when all my apps that I need such as MS Office, Banking Apps, WeChat, DouYin, TikTok, HongSu, WhatsApp and many other mandatory apps that I required for my work and leisure is functioning well without GMS !!!

I know I'm a couple of days late but my biggest question about this coming from a Mate 40 Pro is that when you request zoom, does it 100% use the physical zoom camera? That's my biggest hangup with my current phone - if the phone doesn't think there's enough light, it will refuse to use the zoom lens and instead only digital zoom on the main camera. That's fine for like 3x but once you're in the 5-10x range it's abyssmal.

Had the Mate 40 Pro and it was sad to give it away, but without GMS I had a hard time keeping up with my needs.
Still would buy any Huawei high end phone with gms if that day will come.

At 8:40 Huawei has always been good at this type of scene. Everyone is constantly amazed at my P40 Pro. I always have to tell them though to not click the screen to make the dark lighter or the light part darker because the phone will sort it out after it's taken. The image you see in the viewfinder isn't necessarily what you will see in the final image. But it's so consistent that I know I'll always get the perfect image no matter how I take it. I just point and shoot and the software sorts everything out. Huawei's imaging software is on par with Google's if not better.

Smart phone innovation was stifled when Huawei were crippled. The camera on my p30 pro was so ahead of its time. I hope they are able to make a proper comeback at some point.

One of the most underated festures is that Huawei still keeps the IR Blaster which is something I really really love, the Huawei Smartcover case is also something I can't let go off.

I like the 2 hour standby time after the battery has reached the red line and of course the Satellite com. function! Maybe useful outside China in the future!

    the camera seems awesome!
I wish the cool camera tech (RBYY sensor, variable aperture and focal length, the super clear mic) was also available on other phones as well. Huawei phones aren't even selling where I live.

    thanks Ben!
sound quality of Mate 50 pro video impressed me! the only camera I am disappointed so far is ultrawide... in my opinion Mate 50 pro's ultrawide camera is a step back vs. Mate 40 pro's (I owe it) cine camera...
In your full review can you please pay attention to the battery life and smartphone heating... also to the cell and wifi network connection (it was great at Kirin Huawei versions),

If only I can still use my Huawei Mate 10 😢. I love Huawei’s camera. I am using 13 Pro Max but if Huawei has GMS, I would choose the P50 Pro in a heartbeat when buying.

Huawei will never have GMS again man, US want Huawei dead. So i guess the best option is not to be too dependable on one single ecosystem. there are alternatives .

A lot of phone reviewers are mentioning how lighthouse is solving a lot of the issues related to the google ban... From your experience, how would you rate the huawei mate 50 pro (running the lighthouse app) with the current competition (xiaomi 13, pixels, etcetc?

Pretty cool device, pricing is too high though. The mechanical iris is pretty cool and im pretty curious when you have the option to fully test it. The OS (from what I saw) is pretty interesting. Pretty cool that it kinda resembles iOS with a hint of Samsung.

What's a good replacement for Samsung Pay or Google Pay? It's the only one I can't find a substitution for.

Where you showed us the screen brightness... it would be great to see instead of pixel - the s22 ultra (maybe 23, going back 2 the future lol) with those remaining on the table phones.

Mate 50 Pro is such a compelling phone, hardware wise, even when Huawei is crippled. Imagine the kind of phone they could have made if they were allowed to innovate at full force.

@私密马赛 Yes, it was the last huawei flagship with GMS. Really good device until today. I'm still receiving security updates for it. The camera get better with the updates. Excellent from Huawei

I had trouble before getting a Version SIM card because my Huawei was China version and the bandwidth wasn't offered or whatever. How how this phone? Is it International version?
