      I set up at Portland on North St. (first paved road that runs along the parking field). Just look for my tractors. They'll be mixed in with King Midget cars, some John Deeres, an Allis G Mini and a Cub Low Boy and a smattering of other small engine powered machines. Hope to see you there! Cheers! Zip~

    Hi Zippo, I know this video was done in 2017 & I have used the links you provided, thank you. Just a heads up the links do not work now or were taken down 🙁. I do have a question, on the chart it list by series #. Where do we find that (series #)

    • @ZippoVarga
      @ZippoVarga  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your Model Type and Code are on all Briggs. The Series would be the "Type". This is the set of numbers that differentiates which manufacturer ordered these engines for their power equipment and associated with this same number are specifications unique to the manufacturer. Like, engine color, carburetor type etc. Hope this helps! Zip~

    Hey Zip, very helpful videos, is there any way to ID a Briggs and Stratton engine that has had the original starter cover replaced ? If I sent a photo to you, could you tell anything from that? Thanks

    • @ZippoVarga
      @ZippoVarga  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Maine. You need to measure the bore, stroke, valve sizes to determine the HP of an engine and there for, what engine it is for ordering parts. Zip~

    i herd that the code's first two numbers are the year of the motor from a lawntractor forum quite a few years ago.
    oh also picked up a free toro ' wheelhorse' friday, not sure of the year but its a 17hp oil presure briggs, 44" deck and hydrostatic. sounds great, but.....trans is locked up, motor covers are missing, hoods broke. ill try n see whats goin on with it sunday possibly. more then likely itll be used for parts , im thinkin its too far gone.👍

    How do you determine the horse power of a Briggs and Stratton small engine ? I need to replace one on a log spliter

    • @ZippoVarga
      @ZippoVarga  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a number of ways to determine the power of any small engine and the easiest is doing an internet search of the engine model number in question. Another is looking up your log splitter model number. Typically, Consumer grade log splitters are between 5 and 8 horse power depending on the pump requirements. I run a 25ton with a 6hp with absolutely no issues. Zip~

    Dear Zippo, I have an old Briggs engine, model ZZ, the label says: Mod. BP - TYPE 300732 - Series 193249. Could you please tell me the year of manufacture of this engine?

    • @ZippoVarga
      @ZippoVarga  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Model BP is the same base design of the ZZ but a later model engine. As for what year it is, I'm sorry but I can't help. I used to reference the ASECC website, but it is no longer. This caused a great many of us to look for people who knew the codes and associated years which took me to Facebook Groups, where there is a wealth of information and people eager to help. So that's my suggestion to you is to go to Facebook and search for vintage Briggs engines groups, join the groups and use them as references. Zip~

    Can you do a video on identifying lawn tractor transaxles? I know most of them myself but I think it's a good idea to raise transaxle awareness so people know not to scrap them, they don't make good ones anymore!

    • @ZippoVarga
      @ZippoVarga  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it would be a short list Rich. Other than the Peerless/Tecumseh trans-axles that plague everything these days, all of my trans-axles are Simplicity made units. I've got three types, the Vickers Hydro powered, strait 3 speed and variable three speed. I'm not familiar enough with other manufacturers to give much information on them. Cheers! Zip~

    What happens when you don't have a model number stamped on engine? My 4hp push mower from 2002, bought on clearance at Home Depot, MFG#02009. Family YBXSX 1581VA. The UPC doesn't bring up anything either, 0 47282 74278 5. Made in Lawrenceburg TN. Got a few partial numbers from another sticker. I'm lost here.

    • @ZippoVarga
      @ZippoVarga  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the engine is covered with a plastic shroud, remove it and you should find the numbers stamped in the metal housing if it's a flat head engine. If it's an over head valve engine, the numbers are on the valve cover. Zip~

    Man in Georgia refused to tell his model number Briggs engine. It is mostly similar to- 31H777 which is for riding mower- vertical shaft Intek one cylinder, with 12v starter, but his has no alternator stator nor magnets under flywheel according to him. What code would that be?? Or is he lying? The code for 319775 is replacement 18 1/2HP engine for power generator without alternator, with starter. What vertical shaft implement with 18HP has no stator? I thought that a 12v starter motor required a 12v battery, so that an alternator was also required to charge it.

      If the engine has a plastic cover over the metal blower housing. Remove that (usually with two Philips screws) and your numbers should be stamped on the blower if it isn't an over head valve engine. If it IS an over head valve engine, your numbers will be on the valve cover. Zip~

    Just looked up a blower housing for a Homelite T-16 Briggs engine and I'm seeing prices around $175 This is no doubt price gouging and an embarrassment to the industry.

    • @ZippoVarga
      @ZippoVarga  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's highway robbery! Is yours missing or just rusted out at the bottom? You can use blower housings from the 13hp to 16hp. I'd check the Facebook Groups that cater to Briggs, Simplicity and Allis-Chalmers and ask around. Typically you can find one for $30-$40 plus shipping from other enthusiasts. Zip~
