Mama Dr Jones, you have been someone who has gotten me through hard times. Within a 6 month time period I've had two miscarriages that were ignored by my providers and have gone through so much trauma. But to know that there are people like you and me in the medical field who care make it all worth while. I try to be like you for my patients. If I'm half as kind as you are I'll be doing well. Thank you for what you do
I have struggled for a long time to find a deodorant i could use that was unscented and didnt give me a rash. The first time i saw you talk about Native i hopped over to their site and i admit i got a bit overwhelmed by the options. However they had a WONDERFUL customer service srea where i gave exactly what i was looking for and asked if it existed. Within a few hours (probably sooner as i just didnt check my email til a few hours later) i had a reply with a direct link to what i need. This is where i will be buying deodorant from now on. It was so much easier than blocking a store isle while trying in vain to find something usable. thank you!
I’m still BEGGING you to react to the episode of Private Practice (the greys anatomy spinoff) where Violet (the therapist) gets her baby CUT out of her stomach by her patient, it’s a crazy 2 episodes and I REALLY want to know if she would have ACTUALLY survived in real life. Please mama doctor Jones🙌🏻
Mama DR JONES, I'm 51 and just starting menopause. My emotions are all over the place Plus I have endometriosis. Will my endo pain go away with having menopause? I'm in a lot of pain all the time. Pap and mammogram are fine. Thank you for your informative wonderfully entertaining videos!!! Is strange to feel like I'm not complete anymore bc I don't have my period anymore?
I have uterine didelphys. We didn't know it until I was 16 because I was bleeding all the time. Turns out my right cervix was closed up except for a small hole that was constantly draining. Had a surgery to open up that side and had regular cycles since! Successfully carried my son to term in my left uterus ( C-section at 39 weeks due to him being breech)! He is a healthy 5 year old now! Unfortunately we have not been able to get pregnant again, despite fertility treatments, but so blessed to have our miracle boy!
@@dharmawannab from what my doctor has told me, the 2nd cervix can be hard to visualize unless you are looking for one. Mine always has to search a bit for my right side when I get paps lol
I also have this! Undiagnosed until I was 19 or so. Luckily everything is formed well, and I have one ovary per uterus, so I still have a regular cycle, but before going on the pill I bled SO MUCH
Just reminds me of the time when I wanted to scream, "I'm a lesbian!" (I'm not, but, at the time, I had only been with a biological female) So I could the emergency room to stop insisting that I was pregnant because I had a secondary symptom of nausea after I passed out because I couldn't breathe. Spoiler alert: I had strep, and they were so focused on a potential baby that they didn't even check my throat.
Thank you so much for addressing that patients with complicated medical histories know their bodies so well. I went into my OBGYN in 2018 and told her "my cervix hurts." she laughed and said I couldn't possibly know the pain was specifically in my cervix. she stopped laughing when she opened the speculum and saw a uterine prolapse we didn't know I had turning my already fragile cervix inside out with it. She then retracted her previous statement and replaced it with "What was I thinking? You have hEDS and organ fragility, of course you know what your cervix feels like." I have quit counting the number of times ER and after hours clinic doctors have apologized to me for making condescending remarks about my correct predictions which they initially assumed were false overdramatizations. Recently, I have started adding "I don't mean to undermine your expertise, I simply know my body very well as it has been malfunctioning consistently the entire time I've inhabited it. I only want to make your job a little easier by not occupying too much of your time having to narrow down all possibilities." it seems to help
I don't have any diagnoses like that but I still know what pain in my cervix feels like. Surely everyone who has had a pap smear or bruised their cervix during sex would know that pain.
@@giftofthewild6665 her comment about that was addressing that with hEDS, because it affects collagen/connective tissue and causes connective tissue chronic pain throughout the body, I am more aware of all of my organs than the average human because I can feel the connective tissue between my organs. When an organ has prolapsed or is inflamed, I can feel the pressure throughout the connective tissues around it.
My OB mentioned during my first c section that I had a heart shaped uterus, that it was a cool fact but not concerning. Thanks for explaining how it happens and all of the variations!
I had an ectopic pregnancy and went to the doctor. They said the pain was probably a cyst on my ovary had ruptured and gave me pain meds. Thankfully I went to the ER, later that eve, cause otherwise I would be dead. So ya abdominal pain - do a preg test.
They could have done at least normal the lab work plus HCG ,a urine stick (I mean you can buy it yourself, it probably costs the ER 3 $ and takes 2 minutes) An *US* (ultrasound) so they'd see a ( ruptured) cyst, fluid ( blood, abszess?) Or something in the tubes that is bigger than the diameter of the tube before and after ! AAAAAGH !
AND BTW A RUPTURED CYST AND PAIN MEDS ? WHAT ABOUT A BIG BLOOD VESSEL ? WTF ? Oh no it will stop on it's own if you lost 2/3 rds of your blood Volume in your retroperitroneal space ( where no one checks first) - oh and you are dead by the way then, if the cyst/ ectopic pregnancy RUPTUTED and the blood decided to pool down, behind.... THAT'S WHY YOU ALWAYS MONITOR YOUR PATIENTS. AS SOON AS OXY AND BP GOES DOWN, HR GOES UP BUT THERE IS NO OBVIOUS BLEEDING, GET THE CRASH CART READY AND PAGE EVERY DOCTOR IN A 10 METER RADIUS!
I have one friend, who also had such pain, went to the ER, and was told it was just cramps, go home. She refused to leave. After some delay, she had a transvaginal ultrasound. During the middle of it, the Tech dropped the wand, and ran out of the room to get help. It was an ectopic pregnancy.
@@janedoex1398 What made it worse was that I thought I was on my period. So I would have just thought it was the cyst and cramps and bled to death had I not gone to the ER.
I have a bicornuate uterus which was diagnosed by my OB during my C-section. My baby never turned so I had a planned C-section. In the surgery room, my doctor exclaimed “Well that’s why baby never turned!”
@@blackswan1983 - Nope. My baby grew in the right horn. As the right horn got bigger and bigger with the baby, the left side stayed small and couldn’t be seen.
My OB was so shocked when she pulled my 8 lb kid out of my left horn she asked to take a picture. Apparently it was the first time she broke the 7 lb mark on a full bicornuate and she was like, proud for some reason lol.
I have 2 uteri, so fun to see it featured or talked about. It’s not super super rare but also doctors don’t see it every day. I gave consent for med students to see and learn during fertility appointments, pregnancy and birth, just in case it’s another decade before they come across another one 🙂
Thank you for helping future generations! My mom is among the first children to have open heart surgery and was advised NOT to have kids. Science at that time thought her heart couldn't take it. She had 2 kids. Science is advancing every day. And you are helping others by being you! So thank you for being awesome.
My great aunt had 2 uteruses and 2 vaginas. At one point she was pregnant in both, she gave birth to a girl, and 4 months later had another girl. The family referred to the girls as "the twins".
The conversations they must have had must have been interesting. „So you were born four months apart, but you are sisters? Are you sure, you’re not half-sisters?“
@@il42 Typically, yes you are right. Ovulation stops after fertilization for most when they get pregnant. But in rare circumstances, it can happen. There have been cases on it. Not very many as they are rare. It's not understood why. It is believed to be from a hormone imbalance, but as of right now, it's not fully understood, as with a lot of female reproductive issues.
Reading the comments on this video is so comforting. I was diagnosed at 16 and was way too embarrassed to ask any questions and was filled with fear about my future possibility of having kids. It is so silly how shameful I felt about it. And now I read all the comments of Happy Mamas with the same abnormalities that make my heart so happy. Thanks, #mamadrjones for educating us and normalising these types of subjects! Your channel is such a great resource to have!!
My one year old had a bowel obstruction last year and was hospitalized for a week to get it cleared. She was miserable so I totally agree that they are painful!
I had a miscarriage earlier this year only to have the OB Gyn say, your uterus looks weird. Thanks doc. One MRI later and I’ve been diagnosed with a septum in my uterus. Still waiting to be seen by reproductive/endocrinology to see what can be done.
I'm sorry about your miscarriage. But also WTF is up with OB Gyn? That's very unprofessional on their part. You just went through a traumatic event. Honesty is good, but they could have thought of a better way to word what they were seeing.
Love Grey's. Thanks for the educational review of this episode. I was screaming through that episode that they needed a pregnancy test, the results, and an exam way before the CT. I really hate that they never mentioned the risk to the baby of her getting the CT while clearly pregnant.
I'm curious what you think about them yelling "omg she has a didelphus uterus" to other doctors while the patient is in the room. That seems like rather poor bedside manner? Maybe it's necessary to do that in some situations but I'm sure it would be stressful for the patient.
XD I wasn't bothered by that at all. When I gave birth my daughter had a "perfect knot" in her umbilical cord and all the nurses were excited over it (she was fine, the umbilical cord was really long so it didn't tug at all). My mom was curious though and asked if it tightened would everything have been fine and they kinda all just... Didn't answer. Said more than if they had used words. So I figured non-emergency means they will let themselves be excited over more.
That response is quite accurate in my experience. It is a rare thing to see, and all my doctors were excited and invited other doctors to come see it (with my permission). (I also have a uterus didelphys)
I think she has some reactions to call the midwife but I’m not sure what episodes. I started watching that show after her reaction video lol it’s great
@@turtlescanfly7 season 10 is the current season about season 11 will start at Christmas time. So she hasn't reviewed any of these yet. Mama dr Jones has reviewed a few episodes for season 2 and 3.
Addison is the Queen of Greys & Private Practice! Loved this show especially when they had the argument about how Addison wanted to do an abortion but the practice devided their opinions... hits different with the current times tho
@@lh2293 If I remember correctly it was a 35-week pregnancy. The patient had a failed abortion and thought she was no longer pregnant to find out she was. Very controversial.
Such a joy to see gorgeous Mama Dr Jones, obviously seen thousands of babies but she still gushes over every single one 💕 Thank you for all your videos, you truly are an enrichment to TH-cam and our lives!
There's actually another older GA episode aswell (season 3 episode 6) where a woman comes in with two uteruses, and she has one baby in each uterus, with different gestational ages (and as it turns out; different babydaddies). It's an interesting episode including a C-section where one of the babies is delivered while they desperately try to keep the other one in its respective uterus, could be fun to see a reaction to! (Several episodes in the early seasons include interesting OBgyn-cases because they have a high-risk OBgyn working there for a while, Addison Montgomery Shepherd)
I would like to see her talk about this because in this video she said that if you are pregnant in one uterus, the hormones to ovulate cannot happen and therefore you couldn't get pregnant later in the other uterus at a different gestational time. I wonder if there is some sort of exception to that rule or if the episode is just wrong.
I have a bicornuate uterus. I ended up with an emergency c-section and my OB-GYN called a bunch of students in to show them my anomaly while I was cut open. (i honestly barely remember this but my husband told me). He was like "the doctor wanted to show the med student your hard uterus" I was like "what? excuse me?" I later realized he heard wrong and she said HEART uterus.
One has to suspend disbelief watching Grey's Anatomy. Like, the surgeons are doing all the work, from examining a walk-in patient, to putting in the lines, and everything, taking blood tests, running their samples to the lab... hanging out in the patients room like... 24/7, it seems like, lol. I like the show, but yeah... take it with a heavy dose of salt, lol.
Nurses only exist in that show to pull surgeons down to earth, lol. We so rarely see them doing ANYTHING. And it's been 18 seasons, there's never been a single porter, lol.
Oh yeah 👍 💯, the orderlies ....drs push the beds to wherever. And oh lord ....where the heck are the physicians....damn surgeons do it all. Whole load of nonsense and people believe this . A resident can talk back to the attending in the harshest manner. Boy tht wud mean scut duty , like pealing potatoes for the rest of ur residency. But seriously topping it all is NOT A SINGLE PHYSICIAN. Wht the heck. General surgeon doing neurosurgery research. 🤣😆. i have had people asking me the most insane loony questions...jeeeeeez ...18 seasons...just as Criminal minds and the BAU solved everything with Garcia and Spencer and childhood trauma . Or CSI miami with the white tight pants and heals and flowing golden hair collected evidence....we choose to believe the gossamer celluloid.
That is true for House MD too. Alison Cameron was an inmunologist (I think) and she worked in the ER, performed surgery, scans, blood work, pathology...
You had no symptoms at all? They caught mine at birth because my syndrome caused lots of havoc, but my periods have always been horrendous. I wanted an IUD but couldn't get one because each uterus has its own cervix.
@@blackswan1983 nope! Tame periods, uncomplicated pregnancy. Looking back it makes sense that I still leaked when using tampons or cups but at the time it was just annoying not a sign of something like this lol
I had a uterine didelphys that was not discovered until I was 37. I had regular paps and started to have increasing abnormal bleeding and longer bleeding during my period. Even though I had a scheduled apt to find out what was wrong… I ended up in the ER where they found the right side of the uterus completely filled with a cancerous fibroid. After weeks of tests they preformed a hysterectomy to remove the entire uterus and tubes. Going through chemo now. This episode ended way happier than my experience. A waking nightmare.
In NICU I meet a woman who had two uteruses. She had suffered multiple late miscarriages from one, but this time she got pregnant in the other, and managed to keep the baby in for 26 weeks. This was enough, she said, as the baby was alive and fine for their age. I believe her, as she didn't have the worried look I saw in some others.
There was an episode in an earlier series where a pregnant patient also had uterine didolphus (I’m not good at spelling!😂) you will have a field day with that one!
@@themagicbookstar That is not as rare as you think. Of course, they are fraternal not identical. I can recall a set of boys and 2 sets of girls I’ve seen articles that I can remember .
Im so glad you covered this! I got diagnosed at age 24. But ever since I got my period I never knew what side of my vagina to put the tampon in and was too embarrassed to ask. When I started having pap exams the gynecologists never noticed! When I was 24 I started having prolonged periods that were making me dizzy and so I went to the doctor and annoyed them until a gynocologidt finally notified. I did an MRI to confirm and then the day I got the results a gynecologist (not my regular doctor a substitute) handed me a pamphlet on infertility with a woman crying on the cover and walked out of the room. But I didn’t and still don’t want kids so I was relieved I had a legit excuse to get people to leave me alone🤣🤣. All I gotta say is “I have a uterine anomaly” and they get embarrassed they asked. But People with this condition do have to consider more if I am going to try to get pregnant. Our miscarriage rate is higher and we may not be able to give birth the way we’d like. For example based on my uterus (uterine anomalies are different in everyone who has them ) my current gynecologist said she thinks I should have a c-section if I do decide to get pregnant.
@@rabbit__ I guess some medical professionals still think all women want to have children. I'm glad I had mine, and I'm glad that I have made the decision that my 2 are enough. There was a long time in my younger days when I really didn't want children, growing up and raising my own siblings kind of made me hate the idea of motherhood, so I get both sides. In her case, the doc thought being told that she would have difficulty with fertility was supposed to make her sad. And for some it would, but it sounds like she's okay with it, almost relieved. And that is perfectly fine. I do think they need to update some of these medical pamphlets as our world and the status quo is everchanging and it needs to reflect that. If I was given really bad news (terminal illness or something) I don't want to see someone sad on a pamphlet, I want to see people talking with their care team and looking hopeful and ready to enjoy what time they have left.
Girl it took me til I was freaking 30 years old to realize I had to wear two tampons. One in both lol but it’s so weird cuz I never know which side will have a period. Sometimes it’s both or sometimes one or the other. It varies. 😑
My sister overheard the video, asked what uterine didelphys is... I explained it just for you to explain way better in which she made sure I knew that 😂😂
Hi Danielle! Would you consider watching and reacting to the Home Improvement show episode when Jill has some female complications with I believe it was menopause. The two grown sons reactions to dad’s uhh less than accurate explanations were hilarious, but probably also ripe content for you to teach us cool lessons too.
Wow. sounds like she maybe she could only carry in one of them and had alternating pregnancies in each uteri. That must have been so emotionally difficult for her.
@@SoupEaterExtraordinaire Am I the only one whose initial thought was that to be able to carry every other pregnancy to term must be pretty awesome? Sometimes I forget that can be people out there who can count on having a baby every 2-3 pregnancies, much less every pregnancy.
Had the worst case of indigestion/new IBS symptoms ever last night. Felt like I would split open, even my roomiest clothes were too tight, picked a bathroom with the sink oriented to the toilet so there would be no mess no matter what end the horror exited from, that kinda bed. The only thing keeping me from the ER was medical burnout telling me no doctor would care over an upset tummy and some bloating. (I've had several doctors not palpitate or take bloodwork if I come in with complaints severe enough I can't go to work.) My doctor cousin who I'm vacationing with and whose prescription pad can't be used without a printer went the scary kind of quiet when she woke up and I couldn't sit without the pain getting worse. She does not speak the local language fluently enough to explain the situation to a colleague, and we're rural enough that English might not stick. Lucky for me, IBS runs in the family, I was still coherent and drinking fluids, so a quick OTC med cocktail was cobbled together from three different suitcases until I was well enough to hobble to the pharmacy and explain what I needed, then go to the health food store for some non-triggering fiber foods to get my overachieving gut something to get busy with that wasn't its own bacterial biome. I did spend about 14 hours thinking "I've got reliable, nigh failsafe birth control, we use condoms, I take bi-monthly pregnancy tests and had a break-through period last month. What are the chances that my other meds snuck a pregnancy under the radar?" These kinds of videos are the reason I'm probably picking up another pregnancy test tomorrow, just to make sure. Edit: I'm fine now. Just had a really really bad time. Modern medicine and enough cinnamon-cocoa spelt crunchies can fix a lot of things.
I'm so sorry that you went through that. I'm also glad that you're doing better. With the suitcases it sounds like you are visiting. That makes the ordeal worse because you are not in your own place. Take care of yourself and drink plenty of fluids. 🥰 It made me smile when you talked of having pregnancy tests all the time 🙂
You have my sympathy. I have IBS, and have ended up in the hospital a few times because the pain from a bowel obstruction was so unbearable that I needed to be put on IV Demerol for 3-4 days until the nuclear strength laxative they gave me finally started working. I've also had flare-ups that were bad, but not quite bad enough that I needed to be hospitalized. I was prescribed the laxative plus just enough Demerol tablets for 5 days. Until I can get to the doctor or the hospital, the pain is so bad that it gets to the point where I honestly believe that, mentally, I can't handle any more pain...and then it gets worse. I've also been on the toilet with the trash can in front of me, because the pain is so excruciating that it has made me throw up. And I've left the bathroom, drenched in sweat, and so shaky I didn't think I'd make it to my bed before I passed out. One time, I actually did pass out...I don't remember the last few steps into my bedroom, but luckily I made it, and woke up lying across the bottom of the bed. My heart breaks for my daughter who has IBS as well. When I see her suffering through a flare-up, I feel so guilty, because this is something that I passed on to her. I am so sorry that you have to suffer through that unbearable pain. I'm sure you know the frustration of making sure that you don't eat anything that will trigger your IBS, and yet still have flare-ups, a well as the fear of just never knowing when a flare-up will happen or how long I will last. I wouldn't wish IBS, IBD, Crohn's, or colitis on anyone. The pain can bring your life to a complete standstill. I really hope that your flare-ups are VERY few and far between.
Despite relatives having a hysterectomy they still always ask them if they could be pregnant and say they need to take a test despite being told they had a hysterectomy
@@gimygaming8655 Yep, I've had friends/family go through that, too. Medico: "So, are you pregnant?" Patient: "Nope, had a hysterectomy X years ago." M: Well, let's take this pregnancy test." P: "Um... Hysterectomy? Do you understand what that word means?" M: "Yep. Test." P: "Er......"
I had a hysterectomy and 6 months later had to go to the ER because i had blood clots in my lungs and they told me they couldn’t do the CT until they did a pregnancy test. I was like “I’ve had I had a hysterectomy, AT THIS HOSPITAL” they still made me do a pregnancy test
I get the caution, but if I tell you I’ve never had sex in my life and was in a car crash yesterday, don’t you think you could move on and at least start to consider other options instead of just insisting I’m lying and there’s no other possible reason my side might hurt? Like fine, run a pregnancy test if you must, but don’t refuse to do anything else or run any other tests just because I’m female… Still not convinced that some of my health problems today don’t stem back to that crash.
This policy is important but man did it fuck me up once. I went to my obgyn office for a cervical biopsy and the intake nurse/tech brought me into the bathroom for a pregnancy test first. I thought she was joking and smiled and brushed her off but she got really irritated and slammed the cup into my hand and backed me into the bathroom and said "this biopsy is dangerous if you're pregnant, so we need to do a test. We test everyone. I saw your chart, I get it, but it's still POLICY." (All of my gyn charts indicate I only have sex with women. She was very clearly referring to that.) Well color me surprised because I slammed it right back and said, "did you really read my chart?! Because if you actually did you wouldn't need this cup to know I'm pregnant. I'm 16 weeks and a patient AT THIS OFFICE. Dr L is the one who ordered this fucking biopsy and he's not my gynecologist he's my obstetrician and now you're telling me this procedure is so dangerous to do on a pregnant person that you verify someone ISN'T pregnant before doing it?!" She had the decency to go pale but she didn't apologize. That Dr was a piece of work too and did some shit I should have reported but I ended up with an OB I loved after all that so happy ending.
My cousin has two uteruses and didn’t know until she was pregnant with her first child. She always thought she had a very unusual cycle lol but it was her two uteruses.
You should do an episode with Cassandra Bankson! She has a double uterus and one kidney! Did a video on it and the toll it has on her skin issues involved like cystic acne. She has two separate period cycles!
4:19 Yes, it’s not really a period but the patient wouldn’t know that. It’s supposed to be someone who doesn’t know that they’re pregnant because they had what looked like to them to be a period. I don’t know why that scenario would be a pet peeve. I would understand if the doctor made that mistake not the patient who in this scenario doesn’t even know about a pretty big issue regarding her own body.
I'm 39 and 5 today and you would barely have to touch my abdomen to feel this kid. You can even see the outline of them without touching when I am flat on my back (and I'm not a skinny girl). Why did no one lay hands on this woman?! 🤦♀️
I'm 35 weeks and that still blows my mind, that women could simply not show. How do they not feel the baby move? I think it's super cool though. I saw this super fit lady find out she was pregnant at 8 months because her belly popped overnight.
I’m so glad you’re back. I understand how time consuming it is to work in the medical field. There is a lot to do. I’m a dude, but I learn so much, thank you.
And yet I had a hysterectomy 8 years ago and when I was in the hospital all the doctors, med students and residents were very concerned about pregnancy. My negative pregnancy test and CAT scan with confirmation of the lack of anatomy wasn't enough. They also left me in pain. When Tylenol didn't work they tried to give me NSAIDS, which I can't take, in my chart and said by me multiple times and I had a big red allergy band on. So when that didn't help they offered me MORE TYLENOL. I told them no thank you, I don't need my liver to fail, as they were giving me a really large dose of it and had already done so several times. Then, I was sent home from the ICU and not taken to a step down unit, as I was supposed to, because they didn't have any beds. Sad, they were more worried about pregnancy. One doctor and one resident did a bare minimum examine once and never rechecked.
I was sent home after a D&C (post menopausal) with Tylenol. Which did nothing for the external pain. Later I found out there is an OTC analgesic cream specifically for that area. Thanks for nothing, doc. (Female doc too, BTW.) Not going back to that one.
Yup... They were about to do the same to an aunt when I showed up and they were only interested in pregnancy... My head almost exploded... NO medical explanation at all, but they were talking about writing up the paperwork for discharge... I asked her if anyone had bothered to even touch her, and no... No, they had not so much as started a proper physical examination... I the loudly informed the doc' that either someone was going to come up with more than "At least she ain't pregnant." OR there was about to be HELL TO PAY... He wanted to know about my medical degree, and the hospital echoed with "I DON'T NEED A MEDICAL DEGREE TO KNOW A 60 YEAR OLD WOMAN WHO DOESN'T HAVE OVARIES OR A WOMB CAN'T GET PREGNANT YOU F***ING IDIOT!!! NOW DO YOUR G** D*** JOB AT LEAST TO THE BARE F***ING MINIMUM!!!" HR heard it and they were two floors down on the other end of the COMPLEX... (Blessing of a Shakespearean Baritone and lungs like a banshee) There was shortly a hospital official and a couple security guards to ask me questions, and I informed them that in our corner of "Redneck Hell" a GRADE SCHOOL KID could tell that someone without all the plumbing can't manage a miracle birth if she was f***ed by any 100 men!!! AND that if she sets foot outside the hospital without something better than "At least you ain't pregnant" and a pat on the head, I'd own the place just long enough to burn it into a financial hole in the ground... We actually got seen by someone who started medical work. It was a bowel obstruction, and a complication from Crohn's which coincidentally got diagnosed over the next two days since doc's had been missing that as "Just a tummy ache" for DECADES... There are days I love doc's and most of the medical staff... There's that other 5% of the time I'd rather punch one in the face than hear another asinine syllable from their lips... I don't know HOW MANY times I've diagnosed Crohn's faster... ...AND look into Kris Kristofferson's wife's retelling of his struggles with Lyme Disease. They'd all but written the poor man off for Parkinson's before she "took a shot in the dark" and got a real diagnosis... AND yes, it's THAT Kris Kristofferson. ;o)
This makes me wonder if ectopic pregnancy is possible after a hysterectomy, maybe it depends on if you keep or don't keep the ovaries? Idk Edit: also did you ever figure out the actual cause of your pain?
@@brattrox2939 I have one ovary left. It has a cyst on it. My bladder hurts near constantly because the medication they gave me causes me to dump sugar into my urine. I have to contact my doctor if I get an infection. No fever, trace luekacytes, lots pain. It has been blamed on weight loss, scar tissue, in the past. At this point I just live with it but it was so much worse s few weeks ago.
Oof. I went to the ER once for abdominal pain and my pregnancy test came back positive. I hadn't had sex in a while and was having regular periods. The doctor was a total asshole about it though so I raised my up up and tapped the inside of my elbow "Here, just do the blood draw to double-check. If you know more about my sex life than me, then I would be incredibly creeped out. I haven't had sex in a while and have had reoccurring monthly periods."....... The blood test came back negative. I can't tell you how overjoyed I was seeing him humbled by this experience and having to apologize for his earlier behavior towards me.
@@fonjadidi I was having severe pain in my lower right side near my appendix. Doc didn't think it was appendicitis, he was convinced it was an ectopic (or just something wrong related to a pregnancy) pregnancy since the urine pregnancy test came back positive. I also had a history of endometriosis. A couple years later I finally had surgery for endometriosis and they found quite a bit of endo sticking my large intestine to my abdominal wall right next to my appendix. Considering endometriosis will more than likely grow back, want to take a guess if they went ahead and removed my appendix just to be safe?.... Nope🙄
I love Grey’s! They get pretty out there sometimes with things, but I have actually learned a lot from the show (after doing my own research about things on the show) that have helped me through nursing school. I am fully aware most of how the hospital runs is so wrong (because where are the nurses??) but they have some pretty cool medical cases that are usually at least somewhat accurate. Thank you for talking about what is accurate and what is not in this episode MDJ!
Before my endo diagnosis and appropriate treatment, I would end up in my local ER a few times per year for severe pelvic pain. More often than not, the doctor wouldn’t complete any type of physical exam. It always shocked me.
so if someone had two uteruses and wanted to use an IUD for birth control, would they have to get two IUDs, one in each uterus? or would the hormones still prevent pregnancy in the other uterus?
I hope Dr Jones answers this too. I think probably the answer would be that for a hormonal IUD, you would only need one because the hormones would effect both uteri. For a copper IUD, you would need two because the copper IUD works by being toxic to the sperm cells. However, with the shape of the uteruses, it might not be possible to fit either type of IUD.
@@SomeoneBeginingWithI I think you would only have to use one of they had 1 cervix. But I think you're right about 1 hormonal or 2 copper if they have 2 cervixes
I think depending on the shape of the uterus, gyno would def recommend other kinds of contraceptions just to be safe. There would be just an increase of risk of failiure otherwise.
The crazy part is they had in one of the early seasons a woman who was pregnant in bother her uteri with 2 different due dates....so they've had this on the show before.
oh my god I have NEVER, EVER heard a doctor say that patients with complex medical histories are usually right about the diagnosis they tell you. NEVER. And trust me, as a patient with a complex medical history, I would remember!!! I would remember if I heard something in the REALM of “you can use medical terminology I didn’t personally diagnose you with/observe in you in front of me and I will not immediately discount anything you say on that.” MAYBE my therapist, for the second one, but that’s because she’s awesome and helping me look for new diagnoses, still not trusting me to come to conclusions on my own. Just. Wow. You must be everyone’s favorite doctor irl. her opening statement out here giving me hope for the future~
Nurse here, I personally was a patient in the ER recently and no one did a physical exam until right before I was discharged after a CT and Ultrasound. I have a history of bowel obstructions and hemorrhagic ovarian cysts. Thought about it as she was palpating my abdomen that this was the first time someone had like physically touched me.
I've never had children so I can't compare, but I have had a bowel obstruction+diverticulitis and it was far and away the MOST PAINFUL experience of my life. Lots of tears, I couldn't even speak through the worst parts and felt like I would pass out from the pain.
I love your smile at the ends of these birth vids! So genuine and beautiful ❤️ Thank you for your content and sharing so much information and heart with us! You are appreciated. Much love from TN ❤️
Thankful for the commentary from MDJ, had no idea this was a thing and appreciative that she highlighted this episode? That being said everything in this episode was so bad LMAO I’m cackling about how this can be an actual show about medicine
I have uterus didelphys and when I went to the hospital in labor with my second baby the nurses were trying to figure out how dilated I was. Actual quotes from that conversation: "Do we take the number from the left cervix or the right?" "Maybe we add them together and average them?" Baby was in the left side but both cervices were dilating, though at different rates. Five nurses checked me before the doctor got there. I've never had less confidence in my care than at that moment lol.
Yes, this is where I'm at right now. My period got really irregular, from 2 in one month to every 3-4 months, different lengths and then it got back on track and I've had it 3 months in a row. I'm like, huh? I thought I was almost done with this and now we're back on track? My period tracker app is so confused.
7:15 The way you describe how it’s not common but also not something a doctor would react to in such a shocked manner reminds me of my former dentist. Back in 2017, they finally decided to remove my wisdom teeth so a more in-depth scan was done. Before I could get back in the room the dentist yelled “Oh my god!” Now, I have a very extensive medical history so I’m thinking “Oh no! What else am I adding to the list?!” It turns out, I had 6 wisdom teeth. It’s uncommon but not so much so that a dentist should react that way. 😂😂
6? OK, that's a new one on me. And you've added to my vague collection of "oh, please not this oddity on top of my others" list. :D My 4 (so far, knock wood the only ones) wisdom teeth came in separately, but in pairs. So, in high school, I had braces, & the dentist said it looked like I didn't have any (my mother didn't, so I didn't find it weird). Then, the top two showed up at about age 35-ish, pushing through at an angle that impacted the next molars. I had to get all 4 teeth removed (the wisdom & neighboring molars). I asked the dentist to verify, & he said no wisdom teeth on the bottom. Fast forward another 10 years, and you guessed it: bottom 2 wisdom teeth, again at impaction angle. So, basically, I'm missing extra molars because my wisdom teeth decided to go stealth mode.
@@moniquetroth Oh no! So sorry to hear that! That really sucks! I had my extra two on the top but they were behind the first set so the dental surgeon had to go digging for them. It’s a fairly small percentage of people who have more than four though, so don’t worry about it too much. 🤞🏻
@@hydrorouge The worst part really was the "Wait, *wisdom teeth*?? But I was told there weren't any more teeth up there! How?" (Oh, and the fact that I'm allergic to hydrocodone, which is a dentist's favorite painkiller apparently.) But, if I can make it another 5 years without another pair showing up, I'll probably count myself in the clear. LOL
My sister in law has a heart shaped uterus. She's been pregnant 4 times (that we know of) and miscarried twice. My nieces were both born via C section at full term. One was 5 lbs 11 oz, the other 7 lbs 1 oz. We're pretty sure the smaller baby was gestating in the smaller half of her uterus.
I use Native and I love it to the point that I will never buy another brand of deodorant. I love Grey's Anatomy and I remember this particular episode like it was yesterday.
I went to ER a couple weeks ago for abdominal pain and they were super busy, so they kept calling me back to draw blood, pee in the cup, then CT scan all before I even saw a doctor so I could kinda see it. I had also just had my period, but they still did that pregnancy test and waited before that CT.
Not related to the video, but I wanted to let you know that months ago, I had gone without a period. I thought menopause, but on my grocery list I wrote "Mama Doc Jones". Got a pregnancy test, it was negative. I just lol about it now. 🤣
I'm a doctor and I love your reaction videos, especially those involving my favorite shows like Grey's Anatomy or Call the Midwife! But if I were to recommend an OB-related episode of Grey's Anatomy for you, it would be season 17 episode 3 which includes an hepatic pregnancy. I would love to see your reaction to that one!
this is also why even though I am not sexually active I don't even bat an eye at doctor's wanting to do a pregnancy test. It keeps them worried about one less thing XD I know for most my doctors offices here for imaging at all they prefer a quick pregnancy test when possible probably to avoid situations like this.
Our oldest daughter had this. We/she didn't find out until her first born had to be delivered because he was cramped in the smaller section and was tearing her. Both are well. Our grandson is 24 now.
Me and my Mum both have really irregular periods, we can both go 3 months without a period then we will have a really heavy one lasting 10 days or so then 2 or 3 weeks later have another really light one maybe lasting a day or 2 this meant my mum was 5 months pregnant with me before she realised, she finally went to the doctor and asked outright "can you tell me if I am pregnant?" The doctor then apparently after palpating replied with "Oh my god yes you are VERY pregnant" 😂😂😂
Some people can continue to ovulate while pregnant. My mother was pregnant with two foetuses (male & female siblings) that were 2 weeks seperate in development. One CL/ovary, and only one oviduct (other removed 15 years earlier due to ectopic pregnancy which developed to 16wks). Weird, I know. My reproductive physiology PhD supervisor thought it was weird too (didn't finish candidature)
This is not the episode I thought it was going to be from the title. I was expecting the season 3 episode where she was pregnant in both uteruses. I completely forgot about this episode.
You're the reason I take a pregnancy test every couple of months. I stopped getting periods after having my IUD placed a couple years ago so I can't rely on them.
Good idea. A while back I was looking into the IUD or implant, comparing them and learning about them, and although doctors claimed they were safe, a completely sure thing, I then heard from a woman who said she got pregnant on the IUD and she knows someone who got pregnant on the implant so both are not completely safe, somehow they can fail.
I had Mirena for 5 years implanted when my twins were a couple months old. Had a slightly lighter period during those 5 years every single month. The only problem I had was low back pain. Two or 3 days after the IUD was removed back pain was gone!
I like how instead of saying "If you having sex with men" she says "If you having sex with someone who can make you pregnant" that's super inclusive!!! Amazing, I love your videos, they're very educational!
Two years ago I went to my GYN with severe lower abdominal pain. They did an ultrasound and found a large mass in my left ovary AND that I have a septate uterus. I had no previous knowledge of the uterine anomaly until that day because I had never had a reason to have an ultrasound until then. Also, if you're curious, the mass in my ovary turned out to be a very large cyst. I had surgery to have it removed. It had also fused my ovary to my fallopian tube, so they took that out too. The cyst turned out to be non-cancerous, however, while they were in there, they found endometriosis tissue all over my bladder. That definitely wasn't a fun year haha
One time in school, I had no idea to a question, and I had watched this episode, so I answered the question “2 uterus’s, and 1 inhospitable uterus”. I got laughed at quite hard.
I've been to the hospital a number of with appendicitis, and the first thing they do in A&E is ask if there is any chance I can be pregnant and do an abdominal exam. They don't just automatically send me for an ultrasound or CT scan or whatever.
Just ordered 3 deodorants from Native. I'm really excited to see how these work for me! I also have sensitive skin and have been looking for a company that wold be helpful to my and earth. So thank you!
I've said before, I had this! My doctor told me I could get pregnant in both uteruses, and that always seemed suspect to me. They also told me "I don't think you have two vanginas" which would be something I would have liked confirmation on lol. Also, I was in a small town and my clinic very much reacted like it was a huge rarity and called all the rest of the doctors into to the exam to slow them lol I now have zero uteruses lol edit: and they didn't discover mine until they noticed something weird...on my second C-section :p
I found out I have a partial septate uterus when I had my first ultrasound when I was pregnant with my first. I was watching the monitor and thought "that looked a bit weird" and she saved pictures of it for the doctor lol. Fortunately I had no complications from it with either of my kids.
The nurse's reaction is not that odd. I unknowingly had a unicornate uterus, and though he did not yell the surgeon that did my c-section was very excited as he said to the nurses in the room "You have to come look! I've never seen this before!" Definitely a memorable birth experience, lol.
My 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with a Uterine Didelphys last October after she developed an abdominal infection from one side being obstructed by septal tissue had grown over the side. Can you do an episode about young girls who get this early diagnosis before pregnancy to better understand the genetics behind it, the long term affects and how to manage their reproductive health, along how they can be supported by mothers. We are seeing an amazing pediatric gynecologist but it would be great to get more information. Bella is such an amazing daughter and I want her to not be afraid that this diagnosis means no comfortable sex in the future and no kids, both things she worries about.
Something that kills me about Grey's Anatomy is that the general surgeons in the show take all the jobs and they're everywhere all the time. They even receive patients coming into the ER. Aren't there ER specialists in the ER that could take over until they need a consult?
This was so interesting!!!! I always love to learn more about anatomy and you explain it so good!!!!!! - Quick question: would you consider analizing the menopause episode of the Golden Girls? recently rewatched some episodes with my sister and came across that one "End of the curse" I would love to see your reaction and take on how they portrayed it :)
My aunt had this diagnosis. She hated it only because of the heavy bleeding all the time and during her pregnancies she was treated like the guinea pig (back in the 80s) where they without consent took photos, and invited in a decent group of students to watch the cesection and see the anatomy that she carried. Defiantly a mal practice problem but being a very poor family non of the family had the money to even attain the attorney for a lawsuit.

It was so much easier than blocking a store isle while trying in vain to find something usable. thank you!

Congratulations!!
I have the same thing. I was diagnosed until I was in my 30's which is weird cause I had regular paps so how they didn't find it then is crazy.
@@dharmawannab from what my doctor has told me, the 2nd cervix can be hard to visualize unless you are looking for one. Mine always has to search a bit for my right side when I get paps lol
I also have this! Undiagnosed until I was 19 or so. Luckily everything is formed well, and I have one ovary per uterus, so I still have a regular cycle, but before going on the pill I bled SO MUCH
Hope you are able to have another child soon
“Are you having sex with someone that can get you pregnant” is the best version of that question and I’ve never gotten it but wish I had
Lolol that's the most respectful way of asking "you bangin'?" LOL 😆
Just reminds me of the time when I wanted to scream, "I'm a lesbian!" (I'm not, but, at the time, I had only been with a biological female) So I could the emergency room to stop insisting that I was pregnant because I had a secondary symptom of nausea after I passed out because I couldn't breathe. Spoiler alert: I had strep, and they were so focused on a potential baby that they didn't even check my throat.
@swimfast724 respectful way of asking if she is "banging" a male with intact reproductive system.
You have hEDS and organ fragility, of course you know what your cervix feels like."
I have quit counting the number of times ER and after hours clinic doctors have apologized to me for making condescending remarks about my correct predictions which they initially assumed were false overdramatizations.

Awww that's actually cute ngl
That means you're cute inside and out
I had an ectopic pregnancy and went to the doctor. They said the pain was probably a cyst on my ovary had ruptured and gave me pain meds. Thankfully I went to the ER, later that eve, cause otherwise I would be dead. So ya abdominal pain - do a preg test.
This is why it’s so important to trust your instincts even when doctors say otherwise!
They could have done at least normal the lab work plus HCG ,a urine stick
(I mean you can buy it yourself, it probably costs the ER 3 $ and takes 2 minutes)
An *US* (ultrasound) so they'd see a ( ruptured) cyst, fluid ( blood, abszess?)
Or something in the tubes that is bigger than the diameter of the tube before and after !

They never noticed on the transvaginal ultrasound??

I have 2 uteri, so fun to see it featured or talked about. It’s not super super rare but also doctors don’t see it every day. I gave consent for med students to see and learn during fertility appointments, pregnancy and birth, just in case it’s another decade before they come across another one 🙂

Are you sure, you’re not half-sisters?“
but how is that possible? She would have stopped ovulating after the "first" fertilization.
@@il42 Typically, yes you are right. Ovulation stops after fertilization for most when they get pregnant. But in rare circumstances, it can happen. There have been cases on it.

The doctors wouldn't be so surprised either. I'd be mortified if they did that, which they never have.

Later in the show there is also a fetal surgeon, don't know of mdj know enough about that but those could also be really cool
@@ninao8460 Yes I remember her, Nicole Herman 🙂 Many fascinating cases
For example based on my uterus (uterine anomalies are different in everyone who has them ) my current gynecologist said she thinks I should have a c-section if I do decide to get pregnant.
which side is the tampon supposed to go in tho, i never figured that out either
A pamphlet with women crying on the cover? How is that supposed to be helpful??
My grandma had a double uterus and experienced a miscarriage in between almost each of her 9 successful pregnancies
wow, that sounds so tough and exhausting, your poor grandma!
Wow. sounds like she maybe she could only carry in one of them and had alternating pregnancies in each uteri.
What are the chances that my other meds snuck a pregnancy under the radar?"
These kinds of videos are the reason I'm probably picking up another pregnancy test tomorrow, just to make sure.
At my hospital, the rule in the ER is, everyone who has a uterus and is of child bearing age (
Despite relatives having a hysterectomy they still always ask them if they could be pregnant and say they need to take a test despite being told they had a hysterectomy
Like fine, run a pregnancy test if you must, but don’t refuse to do anything else or run any other tests just because I’m female…
Still not convinced that some of my health problems today don’t stem back to that crash.
I love how you commonly and directly explain things in such a respectful way.
OMG I just had an ultrasound the other day and it turns out... I HAVE 2 WOMBS! Neither of them are or will be occupied, but yep, there's 2 of them!
Awwwhh I get so excited to watch these thank you! I love Grey's but I love watching doctors react to it more.
Some people on the heavier side might not really show, and even some skinny people don't always have a big belly when at full term.
I'm 35 weeks and that still blows my mind, that women could simply not show. How do they not feel the baby move? I think it's super cool though. I saw this super fit lady find out she was pregnant at 8 months because her belly popped overnight.
Best of luck welcoming your new little one 🥰
I have missed you! Thanks for the new video!
NOW DO YOUR G** D*** JOB AT LEAST TO THE BARE F***ING MINIMUM!!!"
HR heard it and they were two floors down on the other end of the COMPLEX... (Blessing of a Shakespearean Baritone and lungs like a banshee)
There was shortly a hospital official and a couple security guards to ask me questions, and I informed them that in our corner of "Redneck Hell" a GRADE SCHOOL KID could tell that someone without all the plumbing can't manage a miracle birth if she was f***ed by any 100 men!!!
Idk

Wow! What was the problem/diagnose if you don't mind me asking
I hope she answers this!
It may be easier to go for the in arm implant option in this case.
I love watching these with you, makes me sad since I struggle with Infertility though 🥺💜 sometimes my PCOS makes me feel pregnant and I never am
oh my god I have NEVER, EVER heard a doctor say that patients with complex medical histories are usually right about the diagnosis they tell you.
That sounds like similar to labor pains
This would pop up in my recommendations while I’m having abdominal pain & found out I have uterus didelphys.

Thankful for the commentary from MDJ, had no idea this was a thing and appreciative that she highlighted this episode? That being said everything in this episode was so bad LMAO I’m cackling about how this can be an actual show about medicine
lol, that screengrab + note = adorable!
I actually have a friend who has two separate uteri. They had a pregnancy in the left one so their stomach was always a bit lopsided.
This is one of my favorite episodes. You should also react to the pretty new episode of the uterine transplant.
I have uterus didelphys and when I went to the hospital in labor with my second baby the nurses were trying to figure out how dilated I was. Actual quotes from that conversation:
"Do we take the number from the left cervix or the right?"
"Maybe we add them together and average them?"
Baby was in the left side but both cervices were dilating, though at different rates. Five nurses checked me before the doctor got there. I've never had less confidence in my care than at that moment lol.
Would love a video about how periods change during perimenapause and how to track cycles during this time.
Agreed! I'm sure a lot of us are more affected by/interested in menopause/perimenopause than pregnancy!
I have IBD and get frequent bowel obstructions. I can confirm they're EXCRUTIATING and the waves of pain feel a lot like contractions.

Hi MDJ. Thank you for your channel. Every video is a learning experience. ALWAYS something fascinating & always entertaining.
My reproductive physiology PhD supervisor thought it was weird too
(didn't finish candidature)
Thank you Dr. Jones for yet another insightful and informative video. I love your channel and I learn a lot. 😎💕
I like how instead of saying "If you having sex with men" she says "If you having sex with someone who can make you pregnant" that's super inclusive!!! Amazing, I love your videos, they're very educational!
This video was so informative. Keep making videos.
These videos are so helpful and I learn so much! 🥰

When she said, "I had my period yesterday," I thought, "Ever heard of bloody show?"
It’s been a minute since I’ve caught up on the channel. LOVE your neon!! Super cool!
“ what kind of doctoring are we doing “ the type that gives plot points 😂😅
I found out I have a partial septate uterus when I had my first ultrasound when I was pregnant with my first. I was watching the monitor and thought "that looked a bit weird" and she saved pictures of it for the doctor lol. Fortunately I had no complications from it with either of my kids.
The nurse's reaction is not that odd.
I unknowingly had a unicornate uterus, and though he did not yell the surgeon that did my c-section was very excited as he said to the nurses in the room "You have to come look! I've never seen this before!"
Definitely a memorable birth experience, lol.
The one that yelled is not a nurse 😂😂😂😂 she's the chief of surgery. I'm just laughing because I'm imagining doctor Bailey's reaction to this comment😂😂
Oh my gosh! I'm here so early! Awesome!
My aunt had this diagnosis. She hated it only because of the heavy bleeding all the time and during her pregnancies she was treated like the guinea pig (back in the 80s) where they without consent took photos, and invited in a decent group of students to watch the cesection and see the anatomy that she carried. Defiantly a mal practice problem but being a very poor family non of the family had the money to even attain the attorney for a lawsuit.
wow i learned so much about bodies today. i didn't know they could form that way.
