I discovered wombats when I was about 7, and thought it was so cute, I wanted one of my own for Christmas. I didn't get it, but I really didn't expect to, so I wasn't as disappointed as the previous Christmas when I didn't get the pony.

That boney plate at the back end has another use. If threatened in their tunnel, they will back up to the threat, and crush it against the roof of the tunnel. A dingo or a goanna for example. They have very powerful legs and they literally squeeze the life out of the attacker. 😵

FUN FACT: If an attacker attempts to crawl over the wombat in its burrow, the wombat will suddenly push up with its powerful legs, crushing the attacker into the ceiling of the burrow. This can break the attacker's nose or jaw or even kill it by stopping it from breathing.
A Bare-nosed wombat can also climb, although a Hairy-nosed wombat cannot. It is not known if a wombat may climb to escape an attacker.
