Awesome Judoka. His late brother was Chris Adams, the legendary pro wrestler from the old World Class organization.

Shame for adams. Some great attempts that nearly paid off. However the winning combination was very good.

One of the most iconic fights that I know of! I grew up with the (UK) legends of this fight "Wienecke was beaten but got a lucky throw in..." etc. In fact the result shows why the Japanese love their "sudden death" scoring which is so important to making Judo what it is today. I've met and trained with both since and am very happy to learn anything either of them want to show me.

Nowadays Wieneke would've had 3 shidos before he made his first real attack.

Refresh my memory: my old pro wrestling teacher, Gentleman Chris Adams, (may he rest in peace,) talked of having a brother who coached the British team. (This was in the mid-90's.) Is this Neil Adams the one of whom he spoke?

Neils too much of a sportsman to complain but that was an unfair fight. He was the better fighter by a long way.

It was a wazari max all day long, I would have given jump. I love Neil Adams, he was my hero, his uchimata, taotoshi and yokotomoenage were second to none but he totally left himself open to that left hand seoinage from a right hand grip.textbook, fight should have carried on.

Adams is the better fighter here however he looses because when training for this fight or competition his opponents or sparring partners were too weak. I imagine he just ploughed through them costing him that edge his judo knowledge has to be probably on of the greatest as of yet in a 120 year old sport he should have sparred with a stronger partner with brute strenght that could test his technique.

wieneke never had the decency or respect to shake hands and look his opponent in the face as he shook hands. The awarded Ippon was very generous Wazari at best.
