@@drnickbella Neurology training in Korea is very challenging. I work at a university hospital in a provincial area, responsible for local healthcare. Over 50% of the patients coming to the emergency room are seen by neurologists. As you know, it's crucial not to miss any serious conditions, so neurologists are the first to see these patients. Whether it's a headache or dizziness, the first contact is always with a neurologist.
If brain CT scans show findings like ICH (Intracerebral Hemorrhage) or SDH (Subdural Hematoma), only then are they referred to the appropriate department, such as neurosurgery.
Therefore, the burden on neurology residents is quite significant. Although neurology deals with a vast number of diseases beyond just stroke, neurology residents in Korea spend a lot of time in the emergency room dealing with serious cases like strokes.
Wow over 50% is a lot. The neurology patient load in the US is gradually increasing. Seems like we need more neurologists all over the world!
