The traffic is horrible. If I-5 shuts down you can be sitting in your car for hours. A promised bypass still hasn’t happened and there is only one way over the Nisqually River. We deal with a one lane road all the way through the town. They continue to build housing but not fixing the situation. Also people deal with high cost of water.
This is a great video showcasing Yelm! I do have a correction for you though. The Shiplap Shop and Coffeehouse does not sell houseplants. You were actually in our shop, Glorious Greenhouse Plant Shop and Vintage Interiors, when you were filming. We are separate businesses!
Thank you so much for this clarification. My mom already made a trip out to the Glorious Greenhouse because of this video haha! Appreciate this correction!
Sure bring more people here for a one road in and out of yelm they don't talk about how much the water is in yelm 507 can not handle more people yelm needs to work on what they have and that's it what do they want it to be the next lacey with more crime to yes the crime is getting to be a big problem for sure
Infrastructure here is sorely lacking, especially in regards to traffic. High utility bills, specifically water. The more people that move here, the less it becomes a place people want to live. We do have some lovely places to eat. Shopping though, is super limited. Ramtha does exist and right across the street there is a serene Buddist temple. I would have showcased the Moose Lodge and the VFW as part of the available acitvities roster, if it were me. Not just the one developed park we have. Not much of a nightlife to speak of and we (mostly) like it that way. Have you heard of our legendary tourist attraction the Historic Yelm Canyon? Also missing a mention on Stewart's meats.
There is an interesting 60's / aging hippie subculture in Yelm....but it will take you a while to discover it. Not as "out there" as say Mt Shasta in California, but there are few similarities. You may bump into some of these folks at the Food Coop. Also many of Yelm area's offerings for past-times and activites are actually not within the city limits. It is possibly the most mysterious and quirky small town in Western Washington. If you ever watched the Portlandia comedy sketches, there are characters there that could be right at home in Yelm.
As a lifelong resident of Yelm and a descendent of some of the first settlers here ive seen this town grow and grow and grow. Sometimes i want to fight it and Sometimes i want to embrase it. Still its a nice town and i love it here. Also My brother and I were in the video which i thought was pretty cool. You guys should of made the trek to the real deschutes falls. It would of been worth your time. Thanks for the video.
This is a really kind comment and thank you for this suggestion. I’m (Mike) out showing properties this afternoon near Deschutes Falls, might be time to visit! Thank you (and your family) for keeping tradition and the small town feel Yelm still has!
This town is too crowded. It is already over developed, and does not have the infrastructure and other elements to sustain itself, let alone handle the planned development. Plus, the development is destroying the beauty of nature here and the charm this town once held.
Tweakers are trekking from Olympia specific to Yelm? That’s a haul, must be some strong meth. Really sad to hear about the murder. Will you share your favorite parts now that you’ve mentioned some of your least favorite parts?

The view of Mt. Rainier is my favorite thing.

Don’t forget about the little Cult that lives their for over 30 years called Ramtha!! 🤣🤣
Food is great...housing costs are STUPID RIDICULOUS. $1,600 on the low end for a one bedroom apartment! Cheaper options in Lacey, Tumwater, Olympia.
Solid! Makes me want to move to Yelm!
Such an underrated city!!
Agreed!

Don't forget the homeless tweakers coming from Olympia! Or the 3 murders in 3 days that happened this month! #ThanksInslee

Free bus fare for intercity transit makes it pretty easy.
The meth isn't that great either.
You missed the local live music every Wednesday at Bertoglio's Pizza. :)
Too fun!! Thanks for sharing this!
