I was told at an early age. If a friend asks for money and you are in a position to help......give it to them! If you loan it you won’t see it back and you will loose the friendship and be miserable. If you can’t afford to give it away that’s ok and don’t.

I own a few investment properties and have flipped a dozen or so houses and made a decent living from doing so. When it comes to slots and casinos, I wouldn’t put $20 bucks in a slot to save my life, jokingly. Yet I’ll risk thousands on a flip. For me a residential flip is calculated risk and I am an old school bricks and mortar guy. Slots and casinos=throwing hard earned money away.

I lived in Vegas for a short stint back in 2002. Best warning I ever got was from the cashier guy named Hector at the Bellagio. "If you play big, you lose big. If you play little, you lose little. Either way, you lose"
When I go to Vegas now, I play only 1 casino. Spending your cash at that one spot (as long as you have their player's club card), you will get sent cheap/free hotel stays, car rentals, etc for future visits.

2:34 I used to feel this way about lotteries, but I've come to appreciate that the actual value of playing the lottery, is in mentally spending all the winnings for the entirety of however many days there are before the drawing. In that way it's providing solid entertainment value, compared to, say, a night at the movies.
The lottery is not objectively wise, few entertainment options are, but in moderation(!), probably not 'never do that' levels of harmful either. I play it probably a couple times a year, when coworkers start talking about 'how big it's getting.' for only $10 I can join in, and pick out the color of the custom train I'd live on. 🤣

Good information! Regarding item #2 (Lottery), I do participate in the lottery on occasion but only as part of a lottery pool at work which only happens about once or twice a year (and not at all since the start of the pandemic). My reason is that since a lot of my coworkers participate, I didn't want to be one of the few people left behind if the pool actually wins because I was too cheap to throw a few bucks into the pot. I usually buy a few more tickets on my own for the same lotteries as the group. Altogether, my lottery expenditure prior to the pandemic was only about $30/year give or take. (Note: the lottery pool only occurred when MegaMillions or PowerBall had very large jackpots).

I worked in casinos for about 10 years as a card dealer. Its not impossible to win a jackpot but they're not that often and I've seen people pump WAY more into a machine trying to hit that jackpot even though it wouldn't break them even. And you see those same people every day. It put me off gambling entirely. If I do go, it's usually a social occasion because a lot of my friends are dealers or former dealers, but I won't play more than $100. Once it's gone, its done.

Thank you for this input on handling money. I have been studying finances, economics, realestate and stock trends etc... really trying to get educated to better my future. After making 80k in 10 months and being flat broke, I had to ask myself a very honest question, what is it I don't know about finances? I've been in what I call a pressure cooker of a hard lesson in life, declaring bankruptcy, selling my home of 18 years and renting an overpriced apartment, and not gaining any equity. This experience has made me appreciate what I had and has molded me into being fiscally conservative. Lowering my cost of living , Lowering debt to zero and planning to invest in assets. Thanks again for the reminder of how important it is to be wise with what we have been given.

Marko, I've gone to the casino with my mother in law many times and I have never seen her lose. I don't play much at all so I just go with her and watch. She puts in only $40 and I've never seen her walk out with less than $150. I have no idea how she does it and all on slots.

  • @rightwingsafetysquad9872

Slots are tricky business. There's the high rate of "near misses" such as getting 4 Lucky 7s multiple times in a row getting you thinking it's just a matter of time before you get all five. There's the different payout rates. Most casinos have a small handful of slot machines programmed to payout net positive amounts and the hunt for those ones keeps people dumping money into the losers.
But for most people it's "Oooh flashy lights and pretty colors."

Before investing, do you recommend building up a fully funded emergency fund that is equal to 3 to 6 months of your living expenses. If so, where do you keep that money to make it easily accessible? I'd hate to have $8000 or so just sitting there not getting more than 1 or so percent interest. Thanks in advance! Recently new subscriber and love the professional and authentic content.

It should be somewhere liquid. The market is liquid but involves risk. A savings account loses purchasing power to inflation.

Re the first point, the balance usually does not stay static, ie, the $2000 balance in your example will most likely grow. So paying the minimum amount will take an eternity to pay off.
I don’t think SimpliSafe is good for households with pets.

Slots are great because they teach life’s biggest lessons. Like a beautiful women, you see one that catches your eye and approach with efforts to win that prize. But you can’t go in too aggressive or it will never give back, you must learn patience. If you see your giving too much and not receiving anything in return, don’t waste your time young fella, go on to the next. There’s plenty of slots in the sea, plant your seeds and watch them grow. In due time, you might just get lucky. That guy you’re talking about at the end of the video is probably a very wise man 😁

#4 is gambling, plain and simple. #5 is an admission that #4 is gambling. I've tried #4 several times and lost money every single time. I would recommend #6: invest in yourself. Don't gamble on someone else's dream, gamble on your own!

I gamble every so often at the casino on table games. I always go in and see all these people losing all this money, but just about every other time I go I will see someone win a jackpot. Lowest I've seen was $2k and the highest I've seen was $100k. The reason I play though is cus I enjoy the adrenaline and anticipation from it. I haven't been back to a casino in over a month now though
