Brennan is no stranger to the University of Arizona and Tucson. He is and continues to be one of our own. I stand with the AD and UA for the selection of Coach Brennan. I see why Arizona had Coach Brennan as their first choice back in 2020. One thing about Jedd Fisch, he was never at any NFL and college team very long. I really thought he was going to take a coaching job at another NFL team rather at the college level. Arizona needs a coach that will be here for the long haul and will continue to lead with the same or more intensity and consistency for years to come. Good luck coach. If you are truly an honorable man, you will be straight up in any conversation with your players about the transfer portal window. They will resent you later if they find out you bamboozled them to delay making a decision. If you are honest with the young men, then you will be a great coach, but if not 🤷🏽♂️. I think it’s wrong to guilt and schmooze Wildcat players (who are not from Arizona) to delay from entering the portal … if they enter the portal and come back they are his, if they don’t they never were. (Who is representing the players interests? They’re too young to see all the games at the AD and higher level). It’s wrong, imo, because every day that a Wildcat player is not in the portal is a day where that players opportunity to transfer fade away. If Arizona boosters, and AD, all scheme to keep Fifita (and get paid bonuses to delay his decision), *and* if he gets hurt next year playing behind a tier-2 offensive line … then it’s on the AZ leadership. Another second tier coach (or whatever). Let's face it, great coaches avoid the UA football program like the plague. And the BB program with Mr. Lloyd has yet to make a lasting impression. If this and and last year's BB program is instructive, Mr. Lloyd and his team of inept teenagers are going nowhere. (The assistant coaches are nothing to write home about and Mr. Lloyd's famous inflexibility are damaging the program and players. After 22 years at Gonzaga you'd think Mr. Lloyd would know a thing or two. Aparently, not.)
The great coach we had last year departed. The new coach seems committed. What more can we ask for but players to stay? I won't be surprised if they go 6-5, but that won't mean that Brent is a bad coach. The portal makes continuity difficult, if not impossible. Tomey wasn't considered a great catch when he was hired, but in a few years he was winning 50-70% of his games. Sometimes you're just one playmaker away from a 10-12 win season. At least Brent has more character than charisma. As for O-line, I agree with you. A mature group is is too often unsung in a breakout year. I
