I am not gonna put something like Pink Eyes canon. Anyway, I do think everything you do in base ddlc and ddlc+ is canon. Everyone has a different first time playthrough and their playthroughs will be canon to them. Whether it's the good ending or the normal ending. But in the main ddlc, every single ending is pretty much the same. The game gets deleted. Whether you do the normal ending, good ending, or the ending where you delete Monika at the start. Side stories are a controlled simulation that take place outside the timeline, but it's possible that could be a backstory for the literature club but not exactly. But yeah, everything is canon.
To get the "Good" ending you have to unlock all CGs in one playthrough. Pretty much pick Sayori or Natsuki and focus on them till the Sayori Hug CG, Save the game, load an earlier save and focus on the another Doki! Once you've seen done that you can finish the game and get the new ending!
I personally think that since the Metaverse Team behind DDLC created the vn as a experiment, I think they would exhaust every possible option. Which means, all the routes and choices would be canon. I don't think this applies to mods per say, but you made a compelling arguement that they could be parallel to canon at least. I remember Dan Salvato saying during one of his playthroughs of the game, that it's not possible to completely define to what extent Monika changes character personalities and backgrounds. Ultimately, the game's inner world will be dependent on whatever is required of it. That, along with the knowledge that these girls change slightly with every reset, proves that there is fluidity in what can be considered "canon" for this narrative.
honestly this is a really cool way to look at the different chance occurrences and endings in ddlc it's cool to think of it all as 1 canonical story, just taking place in many different timelines (also never would've thought of mods being 'canon' by this logic XD, but hey still a really cool idea regardless 🔥)

WAIT! I got it all figured out! There's the friendship timeline where the Side Stories take place and the base game BUT Monika never becomes self aware and ends with the festival! Then there's the fallen timeline where the side stories still happen BUT the base game takes place as well There's two different versions of the fallen timeline one where the bad ending happens and one where the good ending happens I guess you can call the bad ending version the fallen timeline The good ending version we can probably call the against all odds timeline So that's three times well 9 by counting the different routes and I guess you got The fan timeline though I personally don't count that one

However there is one hole I found In the game's story Monika wasn't designed to hack it by saying theres a huge reset would mean the game was designed that way, In OUR world it is but in canon it isn't And the resetting part I don't think was meant to be taken as canon I think the reset was for is to replay the game I think canonically the player didn't reset it but you did bring a point with the loads being different however I think they run at real time meaning it just goes different Overall not a bad theory

Resetting DDLC should create a new, canon timeline. This would allow MES people to explore different choices and draw more data from the simulation. From this point, I argue that there can only be one version of DDLC existing at a time since we don’t have multiple versions on the MES computer. If there were more computers with separate copies of DDLC, then multiple timelines could occur at once. I suppose you could extend this to the real world by arguing that we all have copies of the MES computers and therefore have separate copies of DDLC, but from the in-game perspective, there is only one. The side stories, on the other hand, do not go through the same reset process, so I find it far-fetched to apply this theory to them. The same applies to mods, especially since they aren’t a part of the official story.
Wait.. is that supposed to be a revelation? I thought the game shows it quite blatantly. And it even ties with the sheer amount of random events that you can encounter. VM1 multiverse is very much a thing.
This actually brings up a critique, for me at least. DDLC+ kinda just ruined the mystery of DDLC by saying “it’s all just a simulation” which ruins the idea of Monika’s character for me. What kept me thinking about the original DDLC, even after playing, was because of Monika’s character and the situation she’s in.
@@Zippien.m My take is that Her being a coded entity or in some sort of simulation is already implied in the original story, otherwise she wouldn’t describe a lot of visions that beings inside computer would perceive, such as describing the world after epiphany as grey and flat (python codes surely are grey and flat), saying that her being was paused and thrown into a screaming void where she cannot process information properly whenever the game shuts down but still remember it anyways (probably due to her program that sustains her thinking process being stopped and stored in RAM or something). So her being a coded entity inside a simulation is very much tied with the tragic situation that she’s trapped in. However I do agree that plus gives a feeling of ‘what’s the point why should I care’ that ruins what makes original game psychologically impactful, it makes you care less about the characters by intentionally guiding you to detach from them when playing the game.
Lets just consider DDLC+ as an alternate universe and consider the original game as the "Original Story" Either way i like to think that the personalities of the Doki's in DDLC+ are canon to the original game, just happening in a different time before the events of the original game (i sound stupid saying all that)

All endings are canon depending on what the player picks,also if this is offending im sorry but in the good ending not only Sayori and Monika are sentient ( sayori is sentient if you didn’t know,in all endings) but I think all dokis are sentient due to Sayori saying “ we ALL love you”
I like to think they all become self aware after act 3 but that's just my headcanon and the only reason why Yuri and Natsuki don't break the fourth wall is so they don't freak out the player

I've played DDLC completely like 5 or 6 times and I now learnt that it has a good ending???
I went in as blind as I could and I'm finally starting to get into the fandom now that I've done runs where I write all poems to a specific Doki
