I waited for this without buying a 22Aldebaran. As soon as it was announced, reservations started and I immediately applied for it. I am very much looking forward to receiving it next month.😊
Zen! That’s awesome to hear! I was quite surprised with their announcement of the reel so soon. I wonder when/if Japanese retailers that export will start taking orders for the conquest. So many people in the states are talking about wanting the conquest bfs! Very exciting!
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL The previous Calcutta Conquest was also released a year after the Aldebaran, so I thought it would be the same this time. I was hoping that the 22 Aldebaran would have innovative brakes instead of FTBs, which are being imitated by Chinese manufacturers, but it didn't, so I didn't buy it.😅
Yes it’s nice to see Shimano sticking to a release schedule. As far as the FTB is concerned they did update it a tiny bit but it still seems the CDM brands can’t get it right. They have too many calibration issues or cannot mirror the system correctly. I really do like that they added the steel ring to help shield the spool more. I’m curious to know where the extra bearings from the conquest will go. I think worm gear, and worm shaft but I can’t think of where they might add the last bearing… 🤔
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL The 13th bearing appears to be used at the base of the "drive gear shaft". In general reels, there is only one bearing in this part, but in the Calcutta Conquest series, two bearings seem to be used here.😊
I am very excited for this reel. Bought a 2021 100HG Conquest, best reel I own. Not sure if this will have brass or aluminum gears. The ratio is the same as the Aldebaran BFS, but generally the Conquest and Antares reels have an even smaller toothed micro module brass gear. The Metanium, Aldebaran, Curado, etc. have regular micro gears. Bearing locations: 2 spool, 2 pinion, 3 main shaft, 2 levelwind, 2 in each knob, and one anti reverse for 14 total, same as my 100HG.
Hey there! Yea I was actually not going to purchase one but the more I see it I’m getting pulled towards it… 😂 I must resist!!! For now… As far as the micromodule gears are concerned I gotta say that the alde 22’ has some very fine teeth on its gears. I would love to see something different on the conquest but my gut tells me that Shimano probably will stick to whatever’s in the Aldebaran. I’d love to see a teardown of the 23’ cq tho when it comes out. Also, I thought the Curado bfs would have micromodule but it sadly does not… the main gear also feels ever so slightly geary for a Shimano… very odd. Anywho will you be picking up a 23’ cq? Cheers!
I've got the 2016 and 2022 aldebaran, really looking at getting one of these. I've never owned a round reel, but I've always wanted the conquest bfs. Thanks for the video
It’ll be interesting to see what the availability is like as there’s almost a month to the actual release. Not sure if pre-orders are live but I believe I saw a Japanese TH-camr put his order in for one. Either way I’ve really enjoyed my 22’ Aldebaran and I bet this reel will perform just as well and feel ever so slightly smoother with the 13 bearings. Cheers!
@BFS FISHING CHANNEL I would pre-order one but I use right handed reels, and I guess they aren't coming out for a while. Maybe make a community post if you find anything. As long as I've been watching BFS stuff and fishing, I hadn't found your channel untill now. I'm enjoying your other content as well. Thanks.
Hi curlee! Thanks for the kind words! My channel is relatively young so TH-cam probably doesn’t have much incentive to show off my content haha. In any case, I really appreciate your endorsement and yes if I find anything out about pre-orders I can share that as a community post. Another TH-camr from Japan has already put his pre-order in but I’m not sure if the typical Japanese retailers that export are taking pre-orders just yet. I’ll keep my eyes peeled though. Cheers!
I think it’ll be a smooth and great performing reel for sure no doubt. As it stands I can’t justify adding this to my arsenal and the price tag is just too steep for me at the moment. Very cool reel that I’m sure you’ll enjoy though. Cheers!
That’s awesome! I think the cq will be very nice to fish. If the performance is anything like the alde 22 it shares so many components with I think you’ll be quite happy. The price tag is a bit steep for my taste but it is definitely a handsome reel. Cheers!
I think will probably get one of these , I’ll wait for the reviews before I do though . The weight doesn’t bother me and I actually prefer the look of the round reels to the low profiles
Hey Lee! Yea I think if you’re used to round reels the weight won’t be an issue. It looks like a really compact design and I’m so curious where those two extra bearings will go. I am almost certain one will be at the worm gear but will there be another at the opposite end of the worm shaft? I’d love to see a schematic of the reel but haven’t found one yet. Anyhow thanks for chiming in and cheers!
For round reel BFS fans, the all metal, 11+1 bearing, round, bronze colored Kawa 50 or 51 reel is a very good looking, well built reel with casting capabilities down to 2 grams. I have two and have fished one quite extensivly with zero problems. It can be found for $47 at the Kawa oficial store. It might let you know if you like a very compact but heavier round BFS reel before you spend the $450 on a Conquest.
Hey Jay! Is that by any chance the same as the deukio round reel that I think is sold by other companies as well? Actually yes it does seem to be the case. It’s sold under a few other brands but the reel, at a quick glance, seems to be the same. Maybe I’ll check that out and give it the old teardown routine. Cheers and thanks for the suggestion Jay! Much appreciated!!! 🙌🙌🙌
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL Yes it is the same basic reel as the DKS 50-51, but the ones I got from the Kawa official store were better finished and much more attractive IMO. I forget how I found it, but there is a Russian TH-camr who did several videos on the reel including a teardown analysis and cast testing. Bass N Bonsai did an evaluation of one and concluded that it was a well functioning, capable reel. My only complaint is that a screwdriver is necessary to remove the spool.
Just put one on order as itd be interesting to see what the internals are like especially since it comes in around $50. Good find and thank you for the share!!! Cheers Jay! 🙌🙌🙌
It really is a very handsome reel. I think you will enjoy the reel quite a bit. There is a video out by Shimano showing the reel in hand and it looks to be very compact for a round reel. Have you looked at any Japanese sites to put an order in? Cheers!
The conquest line is always more expensive than the others, besides the Antares. The conquest is all metal for the most part. Most of the other reels like the alderbaran has a lot of plastic on it. It has plastic side plates. The level wind guide on the conquest is conical if you look at it from the back side. If you’ve ever held a conquest they are like works of art. Solid built, even the extra weight of them adds to the feeling of being extremely add made! Leave the light weight stuff to the low profiles haha. If I could only choose one reel to fish the rest of my life it would without a doubt be a conquest!! I was hoping they would of done something dc with this reel too , but if wouldn’t of preformed as well on the low end casting weight wise. But I will still get this reel!
Oh I’m sure they’re works of art but having an Aldebaran and a conquest just doesn’t make sense for me… maybe if I were to sell the Aldebaran but I actually quite like the low profile and ergonomics of the reel. Definitely not as sturdy feeling as round reels but it’ll get the job done. I’m excited to work on the millionaire I picked up as that feels very sturdy as well but I don’t think it’ll replace my 2500C in any way shape or form haha. Did you manage to get a pre-order in for a conquest?
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL yeah the reel is unnecessary for sure. It will preform similar to the alderbaran. Really if you already have an alderbaran the only reason to get a conquest would be just cause your a reel junky. Probably 99 percent do the reels I have are unnecessary if your looking at it from that standpoint. Really I could catch the same fish on a zebco 33 haha. I just buy the reels cause I like them, it’s rarely about buying them for their performance. No I probably won’t do a preorder unless digitaka does a preorder. I notice I get the reels from digitaka about the same time I could get them from a preorder from a different website. Plus digitaka is always the cheapest. I’ve bought parts from plat before, never a reel though, not sure how good there return policy is. Digitaka is like no questions asked and they pay the return shipping.
@@Baitfinessefishing are the digitaka pre-orders live? I know plat is up for sure. I wouldn’t mind a cq bfs just need to think whether there are other reels that might be better picks to review. Not saying it’s a bad reel but the majority of its features are in the Aldebaran and have been reviewed. So… for that reason and the price I’ll probably skip this for the time being sadly.
I had the previous conquest bfs. Beautiful reel and built like a tank. Super heavy for a bfs reel though. The Aldebaran will do all this reel will do just in a lighter shell.
Yep! The Aldebaran is down a few bearings on this new conquest but I don’t think that will matter too much. I do think the conquest brake dial will be a lot nicer to use though and the size looks really nice. This new cq comes in under 200g so that is a welcome change. Are you considering the 23 conquest out of curiosity? Cheers!

Haha would love to know what you think when you do get yours. Cheers!
Haha that would definitely be something! If you think about it a 2500C being BFS tuned with avail parts is a very similar idea to what you just proposed.
