- What are local service ads?
Local Service Ads is a newer program by Google that allows advertisers to achieve a "Google Guaranteed" status in search engines when a visitor makes a search. Advertisers who participate in Google Local Service Ads will receive a larger ad space with their competitor's local services ads and they will be able to feature their local businesses throughout organic search queries. This program allows local business owners to compete for local customers and it gives them more authority than competing advertisers due to the size of the listing.
How do google local service ads work?
Local Service Ads work differently than traditional Google Ads. Google local service ads will not directly affect traditional local listings or organic local listings. The LSA program was built so that local business owners could compete for local customers without having to worry about competing businesses driving their local rankings down. When a customer searches for local services, the local service ad is displayed first and all other local business ads are then displayed.
What businesses are eligible for local service ads?
At this time not every business is eligible for Local Service Ads. The following types of businesses are eligible:
Home services
Legal services
Finance professionals
What is the process of getting listed on local service ads?
The process to get listed in local service ads is simple. All local business owners have to do is visit the LSA sign up page and fill out a short questionnaire for Google to get started. After filling out the form, you will submit your documents to Google proving you are licensed, insured, and can pass a criminal background check.
How much do local service ads cost?
Local service ads are free for local business owners to participate in. Google will not charge local business owners to utilize local service ads, but the LSA program is designed in a way that makes advertisers pay when they get a qualified lead through their program. Local business owners who pay for higher ad placement often end up taking away local customers due to their bidding plan. Most advertisers have reported paying around $65 per lead.
Are local service ads call only?
No, local service ads will display a map of local business listings and they will include a phone number to each local business listing. This is important for local business owners because it allows them to receive calls from customers who are not considering their competitors during local search queries. But the ads also list your website and have a messaging option as well.
How can I check how my ads are performing in local service ads?
You can check the performance of your local service ads by going to the local service ads dashboard and checking your ad performance. The local service ads dashboard shows you how many leads were generated through an ad, which is helpful for local business owners that are trying to compare their local listings versus their competitors. You can additionally, dispute bad contacts through the program so you are not charged a fee per lead.

I am an insurance agent with State Farm, and we need leads really bad. We buy awful leads from terrible companies. We need something like Google Local Leads, but there is no choice for Insurance with Google Local Leads.
What happens if your category isn't represented? I called Google Local Ads for help but was on hold for 40 mins and had to hang up.

Hi Ruan, I run ads for a Commercial Roofing company and I set up local services ads for my client and we are getting a lot of calls, the only problem is we are getting leads for residential projects and not the commercial roofing I intended. is there a way to only show upo for people looking for commercial roofing services? thanks!
I would say target other commercial roofing company’s, or commercial real estate agents on Facebook, or property insurance owners that sell roofing policies to restaurants and hotels, apartment complexes etc. To get them to call that company to do the job whenever they get a client that needs a new commercial roof for a commercial property.
so i'm new to this, but do you have to have a local service ad profile separate from a Google My Business Profile? It was hard enough getting reviews for that one... they don't transfer?

How do you tracking ranking trend when optimizing? The goal is to land on the top three but that is easier said than done.
The algorithm right now is not clear, for now just follow all best practices and make your budget something reasonable. We see a lot of situations where people are slamming the budget and Google might see that as spam
I set them up and didn't receive a lead for two months until I better turn them off (I checked everything I found to fix them).. probably it's becuase I only had six 5-star GMB reviews and 6 reviews is too low.. Idk, I thought I was finally going to go to the next level
Please inform your video editor that the jump cutting is annoying. It goes from a medium shot to a head shot, and this happens too often. Otherwise, great video!

Time to get insurance and have active for a month to upload on LSA, then cancel my insurance.
You can do this, but when Google goes back and checks every 90 days or so you'll fail he insurance check.

Has Google's Conversation tracking improved since so there wouldn't be a need for something like CallRail (or the like)?
It has, but the call system isn't great and I track all client conversions in one place like callrail

I am really not sure yet, you can always try it out and see if that category is available in your area on their website

Right now this option is not available for dental - I would focus on smart ads, SEO, and social media

In your exposure/experience with LSA, what % of leads are disputed vs sales opportunities? I know Google PPC Ads had a big issue years back with fake clicks.
Lots of them are opportunities. If you dial it in right, you should get quality leads.
how much would you charge to do this from a client?
It depends on the client, I usually recommend a flat fee
for your bidding strategy, how do you see how much your are paying per lead?
I use Google's recommended bidding, I usually don't set a max per lead

I have had Local service Ads for approximately 6 weeks. And I've had only one call. How come I don't get enough calls off of it? Competitors?.. there is only 2 other business with Local Service Ads. I have a daily ad spend budget of $300, and nothing. No calls. Any ideas?
There could be several factors, if you increase your budget too high it may flag your account. Depending on your area there may also not be an overwhelming amount of search volume as well. For a service based business ran out of home, do you still recommend checking "yes" on the part that asks if this is a location that customers can visit? We never get customers coming to us but from what I understand it is good to have the ping on the map to display where you are. Any advice would be great, thank you.
I would say so, I would encourage you to change the listing as soon as you can though. Usually residential listings don't perform well or last long it will eventually get flagged

Can this be used for a martial arts gym under the 'Personal Training' category? We have trainers on site who train the student/s in the gym. This could be a private or group lesson.
I am not sure if that category is in yet, if it is you can register. I recommend finding their categories on their website

The issue with Google Guarantee is that anyone can farm reviews. The service does not sticks to leads that you provided a service. Anyone can go on your Guaranteed profile and post FALSE or POSITVE reviews. Malicious competition, the average Karen or companies that make a living out of Ads management can create false profiles in matter of seconds and either hide your listing out of existance or boost it. The review team does close to nothing to verify the listings and they are never available on the phone and when they reply your email is always to indicate that the review does not violate policy even thought is a false review spreading false information

You showed how to set it up for a business, but not how to use it to sell leads... is it possible use to sell leads to customers? How do you get verified if you are the middle man selling the leads?
Selling leads is an outdated business model, consider doing the agency retainer instead. If you did want to sell leads although, I would encourage you to use a tracking phone number with CallRail

Hey man, our client is enrolled but keeps getting inbound calls from Angie's list and thumbtack instead of actual customers. Although LSA doesn't charge us for those, it still is annoying getting back to back spam calls. Do you have any experience with this happening?
You might want to experiment with an IVR that can cut out the spam. For us, we use a IVR and use a tracking phone number for the LSA this way you can create a filter for when someone calls in.
If I have an agency, do I use my agency email to set up the account or my clients email??
I would recommend doing your agencies, and then creating your client accounts under your agency, and using their payment information
