Sorry for commenting 7months later lol but I up my ppi to 900 for adding colour as I find it easier . At this level I don't have giant blocky pixels when using free select so i can be more accurate . Not sure of it is needed but for me it definitely find a big benefit to it and so does my 3 children I am teaching this too ( 6-7-13 years ) .
This is a great idea for getting people who have a low income and can't really afford some of the expensive costs of wargaming models to get into gaming and be able to afford models and do gaming with a large enough army. Thank you to you and Hero Forge for putting this out there. Awesome idea.
These look really good! I really like the idea of using these for different poses. I'm sure my players would like one for walking in town (weapons sheathed), sitting in a tavern, etc. :)
Is there a heroforge type thing but for modern military or non fantasy if you know? I would love to use something like this to make units for a wargame I'm designing for personal use.
Great video. I was just on Heroforge yesterday. I was thinking about getting my players a Heroforge gift certificate to custom make their pc. Then we can print the screenshots on gimp, and use the pic for inititive tracking. Thanks. Any chance of showing how to color the pic in Gimp when you get some ink?
Unfortunately I don’t remember and I no longer use gimp. I now use a program called Krita which is a free substitute for photoshop. Highly recommend it
I use the same system, but but with less unecessary steps. First, the paper minis look better when you print them top-to-top, not side by side, simply because when you stand above them there is no seam at the top. Second, don't waste time cutting the minis one by one because of the tabs, just print a full page with black frames around the minis and stick it on the cardstock with spray glue. This way you can use the black frames as cutting guides. You don't need cardboard tabs with my system. Third, don't use foam core for the base, just buy a batch of sloted mini bases. This has multiple advantages, as you can use simple carboard to create the tab going in the base slot, you can spray paint the bases for each factions (white for allies, black for enemies, a third color for civilians/neutral) meaning that you can also swap them in-game, and when you kill enemies you can just remove the base and leave the paper mini flat on the map, while prone/inconscious characters still have their base attached.
TheZapan99 thanks for the advice I’m definitely gonna try that method today! I love the idea of multi colored bases to use too as well as being able to lay them prone. Very much appreciate the insight!
Nice video but there is a lot to remember to do do u have a video that can show a shorter version cuz that is a lot to remember and u called the video cardstock and that paper looks regular
Since you can rotate the mini's on Heroforge, spin them around and take a screen shot of the back. That way you can have facing easily sorted. Love Heroforge (HF) but they make me worry that I might need to second mortgage the house when I'm in a buying mood :S Oh I'm a DM, nothing like seeing tears well up in a player's eyes to make you feel like a total dick bag. The player's HF mini has turned up, they've painstakingly painted it and the character dies next session. I feel so so bad :(
Trev Que I’ve tried that as well but the nature of them being 3D I couldn’t get them to line up perfectly and my backs would have a piece that was missing or overlapping the front. I’m still working on doing that but it has a lot to do with what stance you choose.
Trev Que lol yeah I’ve had that very moment before. The day he got his mini painted. I felt so terrible I had hid god resurrect him after he failed his saves.
@@RollforDamageRFD if the model was in blender of other modelling software u can use the camera short cuts to line up perfectly . In fact u could strip game assets from games load into blender and use them as well .
@@RollforDamageRFD if you're not planning on cutting all the way down to the edges of the character (I don't), you can leave them as rectangles and not worry about things lined up.

Great vid, but I wish you hadn't paused when you colored the mini! I would love to see another video with coloring...
Sure thing I’ll readdress this episode this season. I’ve learned much more since I first posted this.
Hero Forge unintentionally created the greatest free character creator on the internet
So true! I constantly make my character portraits and such from them.

Downtime Dad thanks. In the next episode I’m gonna show how to paint them in gimp. It’s really nice to be able to change gear out and poses
Can't you just fill the transparent background with white and then resize the canvas and adjust the dpi?
TrueKoalaKnight yes! This was earlier in my digital art know how. But you are correct.
Shoot! I didn't notice the date.
Good idea, though. Hero Forge is even more versatile than I thought. :P

@@SeipherNL Not that I know of but I’ll ask around and see

Robert Spears absolutely I’ll make that my next tutorial
What version of gimp are you using in this video?
