It makes sense when Biblically, the devil actually doesn't get mentioned as much as people think (other than being a big fancy jailer) and there's been various stories over the centuries that have explored Lucifer's character beyond Abrahamic-religous interpretations (like Milton's Paradise Lost). Btw, definitely recommend checking out the Lucifer comics this show is very loosely based off of (though he's not completely a good guy in that as much as he is more of a master manipulator in a universe full of surrealism and weirdness).
I don't think Lucifer was ever evil, we only hear about his revolt from the being that he was revolting against, and of course, Yah-Weh is a narcissistic asshole that brags about being petty and jealous at people for worshipping other gods before him, and does terrible things to them and others who are just trying to survive this messed up creation Yah-Weh made, Lucifer while I don't think he would be much better then Yah-Weh, probably was also fed up with our Creators hypocrisy and narcissistic attitude and decided to try to basically take it down a peg

The Devil is supposed to be kind and charming as a form of manipulation to turn those that he cannot touch to his side so that he can have complete control over them. He is like a predator trying to trap its prey through carefully layered out steps however it is not up to him if the person he is trying to possess doesn’t dedicate themselves to him.
