Hummingbird vs Wasp - Super Slomo 2873 fps!

  • Hummingbird versus wasp. This whole clip is only 2/10 of a second! Super #slomo. 2873 frames per second! This is a very unique clip from my garden. Hummingbirds flap their wings around 50 times per second. What happens when an aggressive wasp goes on the attack? Hummingbirds seem to surf on air. |

      Old comments, but felt the need to answer. Most hummingbirds are so small, an encounter with a bee or wasp sort of freaks them out. They’re small enough for them to be a threat. Adding onto that, they are after the same food source, and both bees and wasps often take over hummingbird feeders. They make feeders designed to deter insects, unsure if that keeps them from trying though.

    Hummingbirds are so neat. I’ll never forget the time I stepped outside for a break at my clients house. I sat down on their porch steps.
    I was looking at my phone when I suddenly heard a loud buzzing sound and immediately thought it was a bee buzzing around my head.
    The second I looked up from my phone I realized I was face to face with a hummingbird.
    The little guy was literally a few inches away from my face just staring at me for a moment, then buzzed quickly from left to right and then back off into the flower bushes on the other side of the yard.
    I’ve gotten close to hummingbirds before, but never THAT up close and personal. I felt like we shared a special moment together, and I’ll never forget it. I still wonder what made it so bravely curious as to get so close to my face, and stare at me perfectly still in the same spot in midair like it did. They’re such awesome, and adorably fascinating animals!

    Hummingbirds are amazing creatures. They are intelligent way beyond what we might normally assume.
    I was visiting a friend who lives in Arizona. We were sitting out on her back patio talking when this gorgeous (metallic colors) hummingbird flew into the yard.
    My friend feeds them and has a hanging feeder with big, red plastic flowers.
    The bird came over to my friend and floated in front of her for a moment. My friend was saying, "This one comes around daily, and we know each other."
    Then the bird floated over to me and bobbed up, then down, looking me over. Then it came about 4 inches off my face, just staring at me, taking something in. It floated there a very long time. I whispered to my friend, "I can't believe this. I wonder what she's studying." I didn't dare move. I didn't want to frighten her. After what seemed an eternity, it floated back to my friend for a second, as if to say goodbye, and then swooped over the garden wall and was gone.
    It was a really amazing experience!! 😊

      @toes3286 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yeah actually many different animals process at different speeds, flys perceive slow motion like we perceive grass grow, and elephants can perceive plants growing its wild

    • @arianaink100
      @arianaink100 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ya they do a bit
      especially for things like landing, their hand eye coordination is pretty good because they can quickly change their axis. They need to fly fast but land fast too.
      Also they can flap their wings independently of each other with more rounded range of motion then most birds. Most birds flap at the same time because of how their muscles are formed around the shoulder joint and breast bone, because humming birds are so small their muscles and ligaments are tiny and have more stretch then overall mass. Their neurons and muscles fire exceptionally fast as well it’s also why they have a fast heartbeat because their brains need to be oxygenated so quickly to process info.
      They’re similar to mice, while small and have a fast heartbeat and very small bones their little amounts of meat that have more ability for flexing/maneuvering.
      Doesn’t mean they’re smart or processing important stuff fast but simply that their brains/heart/breathing/reactions are going to seem like hair triggers because they’re going at a faster rate of speed then an average human. While your heart may beat 1/second for example they could be 8-10/second, if it takes your brain a second to process to blink then you’re reaction speed is only so fast. But if you’re blinking 10x per second then you’re reaction time should be significantly better.

      Believe it or not, I heard from a sciency show that cats process information SLOWER than us humans and even dogs, that's why they act so scared all the time but it also helps them distinguish when things "significantly change" more easily, such as if they were being slowly stalked by a dog or a bigger cat.
