  • In this video, I show you how to make a flexible assembly from a .STEP file in Solidworks 2018. This is a really useful trick for any project that uses files downloaded from a manufacturer's website, and it applies to several other file formats as well.

    Thank you

    This was a high value video. Especially the "save as", while bodies are hidden, I did not know about this.

    At 1:25 when you placement the first part. You don't need to pick the coordinate.
    Just choose the part then pick the "green check mark" on top left. It will place the first part where it belongs like you build in the model...

    What would be the next step to building this product if you didn't want to use 3D imaging

    • @schanerdesigns
      @schanerdesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All components for a product like this would need to be CNC machined. There are also components not shown in this particular model, such as piston, linear bearings and seals, which would need to be carefully designed with the appropriate tolerances to ensure a good fit and seal. Typically, you will need to provide a machine shop with 3D models of each individual component as well as detailed 2D drawings or prints.

    What if there is step files inside a step files?

    • @schanerdesigns
      @schanerdesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If a .step file has been re-saved or exported as a .step file, it's still just a .step file. This method still works as long as there are multiple imported bodies to work with.
