    Looks like they did a very good job restoring this engine, I wish they would put it under some sort of roof to better protect it from the elements.

    • @PereMarquette1223
      @PereMarquette1223 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can’t just put roofs everywhere. It’s so big compared to the other equipment there. If done right it should hold up without a roof. Roofs can also trap moisture Which in the wet climate of PA can be counterproductive for the stability of the engine.

    Before anyone says anything regarding operation, no! 4012's restoration was only cosmetic, the eastern US is not a favorable place to run 4012 and Steamtown can't run it anywhere if they were to restore it to run again. 4012 will remain on display for the foreseeable future. Be grateful that we have an operational Big Boy at all.

      4012 was among consideration for the Union Pacific to restore due to its great shape compared to its brothers, however they ended up choosing 4014 due to the tracks surrounding 4012 to likely not be in good enough shape to hold it.

    4012 looks like 4014 when it is restored. But what's the diffrence between 4014 and 4012? Well, let me tell you. 4014 uses 3985's oil tender which means that 4014 now runs on oil. While 4012 still has its coal tender. Also, 4014 is running and 4012 is on display.

      @@EvilTurkeySlices Perhaps transporting 4012 across country was daunting plus it's the property of the US Government and who knows how much red tape would have been involved trying to get it. It's now cosmetically restored which I think is as far as it's going. what should've happened was to put it back in service like the other big boy it's much better off in action just like the other one that came out of North Platte and did a run through this one could do the same if properly restored that would be perfect compared to the one at the Midcontinent railway museum up in Green Bay WI That is currently rusting away badly enough to where it wouldn't even be feasible to restore it at all rumor also has it that they're going to scrap the locomotive on site that's going to be horrible and I'm hoping that it doesn't end up in the hands of the scrappers torch‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
