    ive been painting in a similar style for a few years! a tip I cant recommend enough is to not be afraid to move your canvas. flip it around, hold it up, rotate it constantly, do whatever you need to do get crisp lines! always make sure the section you rest your wrist on is dry though. also, for ultra smooth work, go back and make corrections back and forth between the black and the main color. it makes the world of a difference.

    I love Steve Harrington and searched up your vid to try and emulate his style.
    Yeah his process vids are awesome (impressive and so satisfying to watch), BUT your breakdown makes it way more understandable to us lowly newbs.
    Thanks so much for this!

    This video is a life saver!! I’ve been trying to figure out what the artist “James Lewis” uses and his setup but the only thing I find is his brushes which are extremely expensive and I’ve been looking for an alternative for a while. I still am trying to figure out what he uses to rest his hand thought 😅

    • @bynickart
      @bynickart  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Tina, thank you! I wouldn't paint the acrylic over the chalk as they probably wont combine well. If I'm unsure with a paint, I always do a test on a piece of scrap paper beforehand. Have a go at it to see how it dries :)

      I vastly prefer chalk marker pens for this kind of work. Not sure if 1mm is too big for you. 1, 3, and 6mm are all common sizes. .5mm exists but is harder to find in chalk marker.

    The way to explain the preferability of using the action of the wrist rather than the action of the fingers is to say that *the wrist joint is amenable to describing a smooth arc due to its natural range of flexion-extension motion, whereas the fingers working in tandem are not. That is so because when the fingers work in tandem (especially the thumb, which because of its opposable action), their flexion or extension motions cancel out each other at certain points along the arc, rendering the line wiry or crinkled, such that the waviness represents points at which the direction of the circular movement of the individual fingers cancel each other* .
    An anatomist here, hence the explanation.

    Those are not crisp lines, not straight or curved. Many pop artists use an acrylic pen. It is still plastic that you paint with. Or they use a specific tape to make the hardest lines possible.
