When Alabama Shakes played this on SNL, with Brittany sporting earrings that were Prince's face, I immediately fell in love with the band and especially this song. It reminded me so much of Prince - the change of pace in the song from achingly beautiful melody to straight ahead filthy power, kind of reminded me of Shhh. When I heard that this event happened years ago I desperately wanted to hear the audio of this performance. Discovered it today and I am wrecked.
I was working and I heard over the local radio station 'The Current', that Prince invited Alabama Shakes to Paisley Park to perform after they performed in town 2 nights previous. They said it was first come, first serve, and they would only let 800 people in so I got in my car and went straight to Paisley Park to stand in line. After a 6 hour wait, I was in. It was the most magical music experience of my life. Prince walked right by me as he got on stage to perform this, and I can still smell that sweet scent when i think about it. Prince was supposed to perform afterwards on a small back room stage. We waited for 2 hours, but he never emerged, so we all left around 2 am. I believe this was his last performance with a band that wasn't his. There were no cameras or audio recording equipment allowed during this, so this recording shouldn't even exist, but I'm glad it does. ❤

After the show we went to the Freehouse downtown and a guy was at the bar complaining because he was at the show and went to the small stage during the Shakes show to be up front in case he did play and he missed it!! Can you imagine.
