  • I got an amazing opportunity to sit down with Mycologist and professor Dr. Michael Beug. Former Mycology Professor at Evergreen State College in Washington. He was the teacher of such huge names in mycology as Paul Stamets, Jeremy Bigwood, Jonathan Ott and many others.
    In this interview near his home in Trout Lake WA, he recounts the story that was featured in the Psilocybin issue of Fungi magazine about his personal experiences with Psilocybin mushrooms.

    We will not accept any responsibility for negligence or accidental ingestion of poisonous mushrooms or plants. These videos are not intended to be a definitive field guide, but rather a starting point to become familiar with habitat, Everyone is encouraged to do their own studies, acquire literature or internet resources to safely and confidently identify wild foods before they eat them. When eating a new wild mushroom, it is advised to start with only a small amount, and make sure that it is fresh and that it is cooked thoroughly. Some mushrooms do not agree with certain individuals, and this is typically discovered on a case-by-case basis. Even the most edible of mushrooms contain compounds that can be tough for the human digestive tract to handle. Some “edible” species have small amounts of certain toxins that will easily break down with cooking. Fungi contains a molecule known as chitin that is the same thing that makes the exoskeleton of shellfish so hard, and cannot be broken down by the human digestive system, so it is another good reason to thoroughly cook mushrooms. All the ideas expressed in the comments should be taken with a large grain of salt. I don’t think there is any other field of study or science that has more misinformation being shared so freely and boldly. Mushroom Wonderland and Aaron himself have no opinion and neither encourage nor discourage the use of mushrooms containing mind-altering compounds. These mushrooms contain powerful chemicals and should be treated with a high level of responsibility. Any video topics on the habitat, natural distribution, and morphological features of psychoactive mushrooms portrayed on this channel are purely for scientific and educational purposes.

    Beug's "Mushrooms of Cascadia " is one of the best field guides for the PNW. Dr. Beug's impact on the science of mycology will be seen far into the future by his work and students. I am extremely excited to attend Evergreen State and see and study his legacy with my own eyes. Thank you Aaron for providing this intriguing talk, awesome content as usual!

    Mushrooms of Cascadia is one of my favorite ID books now for the PNW. With its multiple choices, it's more efficient to use than a dichotomous key, while still providing lots of structure to learn the features to winnow out successive groups of different mushrooms. Dr. Bueg's stories reveal that there are bold, yet old, mushroom consumers. ; )

    But, if they distort your perception doesn’t that blow your objectivity and clarity?

    • @mushroomwonderland1
      @mushroomwonderland1  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Perhaps a rearrangement and perception would be more fitting. Distort isn't always in a negative connotation, sometimes it can reveal perspectives and views of things that we normally wouldn't see or ponder, which can be useful. Gathering new insights and ideas.

    That shot at Christianity was entirely pointless, absolutely untrue, and really ruined this video for me. Amanita and Jesus are entirely unrelated except that Jesus made the amanita, and everything else in this beautiful world. Frankly Aaron, I'm quite disappointed that you left that bit in.

    • @mushroomwonderland1
      @mushroomwonderland1  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I didn't make it up! It's just amusing folklore that I personally think is silly, and kind of funny🤷 other peoples ideology shouldn't bother you so mush!🍄 You should look up the Fresco in the Roman Catholic Church in Plaincouralt, France depicting the tree of knowledge with Adam and Eve on either side that is unequivocally an Amanita muscaria, there's also another fresco found on the wall of a basilica of Aquileua in Northern Italy. Also another painting on the ceiling of St Michael's Church in Hildescheim, Germany, from 1192 AD that shows a large Amanita with Adam and Eve each holding a mushroom. I'm not making this stuff up! 🍄
