Album : Live from Denver
Utgitt : 1976
Låtskriver : Ray Sawyer
Ray Sawyer (February 1, 1937 - December 31, 2018)[1] was an American singer and vocalist with the 1970s rock band Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show.[2] Though primarily a backing vocalist and occasional percussionist on congas or maracas, he sang lead on their hit song "The Cover of Rolling Stone" and was a recognizable presence in the band owing to the eyepatch and cowboy hat he wore.
Sawyer lost his right eye in a 1967 automobile accident. He said the following about his life around the time of his accident: "I must have played all the clubs from Houston to Charleston until I decided I was going insane from too much beans and music, and I gave it up. I saw a John Wayne movie and proceeded to Portland, Oregon, to be a logger complete with plaid shirt, caulk boots, and pike pole. On the way my car slipped on the road and the accident left me with the eye patch I now wear. When I recovered I ran straight back to the beans and music and vowed, 'here I'll stay'."
Dr. Hook (shortened from Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show in 1975) was an American rock band, formed in Union City, New Jersey. They enjoyed considerable commercial success in the 1970s with hit singles including "Sylvia's Mother", "The Cover of 'Rolling Stone'" (both 1972), "Only Sixteen" (1975), "A Little Bit More" (1976), "Sharing the Night Together" (1978), "When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman" (1979), "Better Love Next Time" (1979), and "Sexy Eyes" (1980). In addition to their own material, Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show performed songs written by the poet Shel Silverstein.
The band had eight years of regular chart hits, in the United States, where their music was played on top-40, easy listening, and country music outlets, and throughout the English-speaking world including the UK, Canada and South Africa. Their music spanned several genres, mostly novelty songs and acoustic ballads in their early years, though their greatest success came with their later material, mostly consisting of disco-influenced soft rock, which the band recorded under the shortened name, Dr. Hook.

Without a shadow of a doubt. Dr Hook were the best god damn entertainers that ever lived. They brought that western tradition of singing for your supper into the 21st century.. And you know what. The world is a duller place now without them..
100% agree ! 💖
I'm English and I LOVE them. They were/are absolutely BRILLIANT ! 💖💖
Dr.Hook is the boooom, no one can ever be like them one of a kind!!!
I shed a tear for their absence at 32
(I take a lot from them in my silly life)
❤
I agree
Saw them in Wichita Kansas.... bad weather and not too many people. They invited everyone to move up close and we had the best time just singing and drinking with them! Their greatest hits album is fantastic!!!
Such great entertainers! Can't help but smile watching them.
Oh for the days of my youth as a Cali Arkie Show Me hillbilly dairy farm boy. Yodeling calling in the cows with my grandfather. Precious Memories.
i love their moustache, their side burn, their hair, their fashion.🥰😍😍
Its easy to feel sorry for the kids today as far as music goes. We really had it good.
You have no idea! My daddy showed me this band and I'm 27 and they're my absolute favorite music. They make me feel wrapped in a warm hug or like partying or like stomping my bare feet. They have so many genres in 1 and I hate that I missed it in action
Steve they have nothing today..Full stop
No words can describe the feeling of watching Dr Hook, I seen them live in Dublin 1982, Carry me carrie is my favourite on Shels houseboat 😅
I once saw Dr Hook in concert and they were so drunk they were knocking stuff over on stage....but they managed "cover of the rolling stone" and "sylvia's mother" June 24,1980 - Halifax Forum, Halifax Nova Scotia
Makin music is about having fun! Dr. Hook were the masters.

'Making love and music' you mean? 😁
Love love 'em ,no other band with so much enthusiasm ,,,,💜
When you went to a Dr Hook Show, you got your $ 7 worth !
This was an All Star Band with personalities that rivaled anyone in Hollywood.
In my opinion. This is real entertainment. Nothing like the crap now.
I’ve never seen a band have as much fun on stage than Dr Hook. You gotta love it!
Doing what they like 😁.
First of all how could you perform a song, for instance like Freakin' at the Freakers Ball and not have a blast doing it. But the other thing is that when you are relaxed and comfortable with your performance the delivery comes through the best.
@@davidblagg2576 More talent than anything. There may have been drugs involved, but the on-stage shenanigans were all part of their act, and it takes real talent to clown around while still performing flawlessly like this.
I love these guys, but man the coke must have been flowing freely that night lol, goodshit...
I agree but they’re all so cooked it’s hilarious
They played a show in my hometown and Ray Sawyer and the rest of the group signed a t-shirt for my 2nd daughter. They played one hell of a show. 3:41 e 3:41 ll
Fantastic. These guys know how to entertain their audiences.
I grew up listening to all of Dr Hook songs
Every time I ever watched these guys they were having a good time. Always seemed loving and kind toward one another and having one helluva good time. R.I.P Ray. Good memories and music that gave me a lot of joy.
well said
That's life should be 😜
These guys must be brilliant live! God knows we need some fun like this these days. Great entertainers!
Thanks for posting this channel - I live in the UK and there is not much to sing about these days. These guys were long before woke or politically correct drivel - I watch them regularly - they keep me sane. All the best from the UK and thanks again for posting. 😄😄😄
I am now 61, when these blokes at prime I was not privy to TV as a Wringer , Jackaroo out Bush. I thanks TH-cam, and am so sad these blokes could become 20yrs younger and come back. AJ.
These guys were absolutely genius entertainers. Possibly THE most underrated band.
What makes you believe they're underrated?
@@gogoyubari366 It’s just a feeling. It’s an art not a science.
I also feel that Earth tones don’t get enough love.
38 year old here. Never heard of this band until today. Pure unadulterated Bliss! Thank God I'll die having listened to Dr. Hook!
Well you're in for a treat! I've loved them since I was a young girl in the 70s
Oh! I'm happy for ya! There's nothing compares to Dr. Hook. There's a biker bar called Nick's Waterfall House in the Catskill mountains in NY. I'd go inside, put $5.00 in the juke box and play every Dr. Hook song on there. Oh yes. Everybody had a good time! ROCK AND ROLL! 🤣
Yes, you truly missed the heyday of the music. I'm 59 and saw them in concert over 2 dozen times. If you get the time machine working, save me a seat. We're heading for Jackpot, NV, summer of 1985. I don't know who was drunker, us or them. 🤣
Man great times. My pops loved the band. And hearing it much times as dad rocked it. It sunk in.
Welcome to the medicine show brother
I never get tired watching this, Ray's yodeling is great, Dennis is so funny, and Billy's dance is hilarious, What a great band, best EVER!!!

That was the Best! Right in the middle of their Hey Day!
Heaven has a Hell of a band, and one wild dancing man 🕺🤣.
Ray had more talent than anyone really ever saw with Dr. Hook. Dennis was super talented as well, and both had great voices in their own way.
I believe. If the whole world saw this. World. Would be a whole lot calmer. And less violence.
These guys are nothing but fun fun fun. Wish I would have known these would be the good old days.
I've been listening to these guys since the 70's.

I have listened to these guys for fifty years, but, never seen them in person, or seen any videos , until about 2 years ago. After seeing the videos of them, I am addicted to them, they are true entertainment, I wish they were still around, I would get tickets in a heartbeat.

How high are these dudes! Bang on with harmonies and music, though.

In an other performance of this song, Ray sings "I went to my dealer to get me a lid." -- that's an OUNCE of weed.

They all had their own talents which made them Great... Brilliant Band.
they were all born to entertain, just amazing.
Did any band ever have so much fun as this one. I love it!
There are some songs I wished they never ended. This is one of them,
it's comedy & singing all thrown together. Brilliant
I wish I had grown up in this time period and seen these guys in concert. As amazed as I am now , I couldn’t even imagine being there live. Billy laughing looks like Cheech from Up in Smoke. Awesome 👏
