Thank you @BrittanyTiara for being a nurse. I spent 15 days in the hospital after a terrible accident once, and RNs and CNAs are absolute angels. My nurses and CNAs not only gave me meds and kept me clean (I had shattered both heels and broken 2 vertebrae so I couldn’t walk or move much) but some of them even cried with me and told me it was going to be okay. You are the best! ❤

I love the $25/week meal plan videos. Its fun to see you shop at Walmart and find those good deals, showing people you can eat cheap!! One tip for next time you brown your burger in the pan, pour in some water or broth and deglaze the pan and then add that to the crockpot. Those flavors are delicious 😋

As soon as I saw the lentil stew, I went into my kitchen and started cooking it right away! We're facing yet another snow storm here & having a nice warm stew with homemade bread is a perfect meal for freezing cold days. Thanks Julia!

If you can prep some meals ahead of time or bake some homemade bread or anything you can make at home before you buy from the grocery store, it sure helps save.
Well, some things have come down but, when, so, many things go down in price, other things go up more, like the bigger percentage of what we buy and, they have said, prices are going to continue to get much higher beyond what we have yet not seen!

I would also add to the lentils chopped hot dogs 🌭 or Hillshire sausage to up the protein factor. ❤
A tip for your turkey chili is to add diced up sweet potatoes, you don’t really take them but it really gives the chili some great flavor
Good tip. They are a little pricy right now but easy to grow in a tote. The hi nutrition & fiber would be great. Btw, sweet potato greens can be eaten I have read. Going to try this yr. Learned that from Deep South Homestead. Thanks.
im surpised you didnt deglaze the pan with water after browning the turkey meay.
Everything looks great and yummy though. The rice and beans reminds me of the weight watchers sante fe rice & beans meal (a lot cheaper too).
If you have canned pumpkin on hand, you can also add it to chili. Adds extra fiber, is a a great way to sneak extra vegetables in and does not affect the flavor.

I am very impressed that you can include meat/chicken in your meals and still come in under budget. We use the cheaper beans (which we buy in bulk, so no weekly shopping for them - rice, too) but it's still a struggle with prices going up every time we visit the store. So many things we used to consider everyday items have now gone the way of luxuries that we just don't buy anymore. Thank all the stars for people like you who understand.

Yes it’s, just spend $90 yesterday and hardly bought any groceries.
I go straight to the clearance sections every time. Sometimes there’s some good deals on beef and chicken, and I’ll stock up and put them in the freezer for later.
Yep I just got a box of great value breadsticks and they were 2.50 here and used to be way less. Geeze we need food to survive and the prices are making it really hard.

HERE'S A TIP FOR FLAVOR 😊
When you cooked the turkey and onions in the pan and it was done. You may put about a half cup of water in the pan before you put it in the slow cooker. I seen that there was a lot of flavor (browning) left in the pan. The water will help all that brown flavor lift from the pan using a spatula to help break up the brown bits.Then you just continue with your recipe minus the half cup of water. That also might lower the amount of bouillon cubes you put in.

Thank you for your effort and hard work in showing both young and older cooks how to eat well, feed their family on a budget. I think your emphasis on what is leftover and how to use it the following week is so important. It's the strict budget person's way to slowly build up a pantry of basic supplies that can make cooking meals both easier and more versatile. I’m planning on doing more crockpot meals this year. Trying for twice a week for Jan and Feb. so hoping to see more videos on this! I’m disabled so it’s really hard for me to stand and cool over the stove for 20+ min every night. Which means my husband gets off work and immediately cooks when he gets home. He literally does not even sit down first. So I’m trying to help out and the crockpot is always the best option for me sm😊

I went straight to Walmart online and ordered all of Julia's grocery items. I've got her recipe for BBQ chicken legs in the crockpot right now. I'm going to do this menu plan for the week, and I'm thrilled that the entire grocery order came to appx. $22! Love that these dishes are mostly "dump and go" crockpot options. Hi Julia, just wanted to say that I love your channel so much. Also, I really appreciate that you cook with plant based proteins a lot! Not that I'm a vegan or vegetarian (I did grow up on a vegetarian diet though), but I guess most Americans don't realise that in some countries, meat can be very, very, expensive. I've seen so much "low income cooking" videos where they use loads of mince or other meats which would be quite expensive where we live. We have meat or fish about twice a week, and we're not even poor. I must add that having less meat isn't just because of the financial aspect, but it does play a role. (Not complaining or anything, just wanted to expres my gratitude while still mentioning the somewhat harsh reality for a lot of people these days...)

Meat is really expensive where we live as well. I buy chicken and whatever m8nce is the cheapest, then in US recipes I cut the meat in half or even lower, and replace it with lentils, tofu, or another plant based protein. We buy boxes of seconds fruit and veg, super cheap but we don't get to pick what we get. We use the veggies to stretch meals rather than extra carbs.😅

I bought my college-aged son a small crockpot this Christmas. Walmart is the closest store to him. I showed him a few of your super easy recipes. I know he would probably make the chicken ones. I loved today’s recipes. I would’ve added a pack of instant potato’s to the bbq chicken meal and maybe put the chilli on a couple baked potatoes to bring it up to the $25 mark and be a little more filling. I plan to make that lentil stew at some point. I was just looking at the lentils in my pantry thinking what could I do with them.
The potatoes yes ! Many dont know but instant potaties can taste delish just add butter cream cheese onions spices etc and cheap! 😷

Great tips! A block of cheese is around $2, so adding that to the pile still would've kept you within your budget and not feel bad about adding it.
Sadly those Festive ground turkey chubs used to be $1.30 two years ago or so, and they used to come in four different versions (plain, italian, taco, and breakfast sausage). Ground turkey is crazy expensive right now though so I'm not surprised how much the price has inflated.
I've been cooking lentils and beans a lot lately, too. Instant pots are great for cooking dry beans, letting you save even more. My Walmart had a chorizo spice blend packet in the clearance section for like 20 cents, so I made lentil chorizo burritos earlier this week and it was amazing. I'll also be making a cabbage roll soup with lentils instead of ground beef later this week, which makes it dirt cheap per serving and so delicious! I used TheWolfePit's "Inflation Stew" video as the basis for it. My wife is picky and wouldn't try the lentil chorizo but she actually went back for seconds of this soup last time.

I love these recipes! I usually budget a bag of flour and yeast and make rolls or bread and budget a side salad and double the recipes to fill my teens. Still so cheap!

Did you know that Walmart provides free shipping for online orders over $35? I order online frequently and the orders are brought right to my door! Of course, I am very careful not to order anything that may break or leak during shipping. This may be a thrifty option for you since shopping in NYC is definitely more expensive. I hope this is helpful to you.

This is so helpful I work overnight shift in a hospital and coming home I’m so tired.🥱 slow cooking while I sleep in the morning is the best thanks for sharing I just purchased your cook book 📖 😀
Check out her freezer meals too. That's what saves my butt when I'm working a lot. Thaw overnight, throw it into the slow cooker and come home later to a fully cooked meal!
I work graveyard shift also, and usually to tired to spend to much time cooking, this recipes are great. Budget friendly and quick and easy to make.
Even, if you don’t have much freezer space, one thing you can do when,you have free at home is take a can of biscuits bake them, get a meat of your choice such as sausage patties and, fry them up and scramble up about 8 eggs, with a little milk, season and, if you desire add diced veggies and, add cheese to them, when, things are cooled down, assemble and, wrap in plastic wrap and then, in foil and stick so many in a plastic bag and, then, pop in your freezer! Then, like the night before you go to work you can pop however many in the fridge to thaw out and, then, when, you come home all you have to do is pop in the microwave for under 60 seconds! Bingo, no need to go stop for breakfast at a connivence store or at a fast food place, you just saved yourself sometime and money!
