When you're able to control your dynamics, and not go overly loud on your belts, you don't have to do the mic technique where you pull away on your belts. I just came from another reactor who explained that about the mic, and you guys are basically making that comment about Whitney, Without realizing that that's the reason why she's able to do that without moving away from the mic, it's because she's not overly blasting her voice.

She has an album from the late 70's (I think) called "This is Niecy" and I have never heard anyone sing that well before or after. She has such a clear smooth voice and hits the most incredible high notes but still has good comfort in her lower range as well. I grew up around a bunch of professional musicians back in the live music hey day in Houston in the 70's and that's how I learned about Niecy. Any of her songs on that album would be a WONDERFUL piece of art to choose. Free is a good one to hear her hit the high notes. th-cam.com/video/XsQ7DtBazaA/w-d-xo.html

All of the performing arts depend on the performer to use the materials, mechanics and details of the instruments. The greatest performers must select the greatest instruments: violin, piano, dancing shoes, lighting..etc. But what makes the difference is the depth of the emotion and the complexity of the interpretation. Houston had a top instrument, but what really sets her apart is how she used it to convey meaning with pure intensity. At some point, tragically, the instrument failed to produce what was in her soul. It was like taking away a Steinway from Vladimir Horowitz and replacing it with one of those tiny tinkle toys intended for 2-year olds.

Would love you to react to this stupendous performance by Elkie Brooks, a legend in the UK and Europe. Such passion. Sometimes a song is just owned by one particular singer. This song has been sung by many including the great Nina Simone. But only Elkie made it into a big hit. Such a performance. Probably the most underrated vocalist of the last few decades. th-cam.com/video/N0RfTsZvk4M/w-d-xo.html
