I don't have Laura's file handy, but I'm sure she used the Appearances Panel to add an extra fill, and it turned it into a circle via effects. Similar to this: drive.google.com/file/d/1YsXl_Ty2M0zSxKCh4iCw0kCHMIujb6lj/view?usp=sharing
